2 years ago |Thanks for that link, just paid them a visit today (thought all Sony Centers were out of stock…and strangely sony.lu mentions none available)
They are the only ones having the camera in Luxembourg, none were delivered to any shops. And they should have 10-15 left in stock, according to their sales personal. Apparently people from neighboring countries are calling in to inquire…
Time to fool around with that new toy…

2 years ago |Is this site becoming a shopping redirector/click through/referal monster? I understand that its a way to make revenue to support the site/hosting fees etc. But come on if there is nothing new, I would rather not see anything then these “updates” on where the product is in stock! Just my 2 cents…

I was told that there should be some on the way to hungary (with lens). As Hungary is not a big market I think there should be one more lot on the way to EU.
I’m booked one so hopefully it will arrive…

2 years ago |I know there are a few diferences between A77 and A65, but if you are not a Pro that needs a sealed body, the A65 will do perfectly the same job, the only thing I will be mising is the second dial. Who needs a top LCD if all the info is in the viewfinder???
1/160 Sync speed is more than enough, if not you allways can go HSS.
The microadjusment, could be a second reason, but I’m being the owner of an A100, A700, A55 and I still have my A900 (waiting for the A99) and I NEVER need that feature, and I own Minolta, Sony and Zeiss prime lenses.
I know Pro’s take a lot of pictures but for those (I guess 95% of the buyers) the rest of us, we wont take 200 pics per week and that means the A65 will last 9 years, is that not enough??
They are still plenty of A65 out there, gor for it
My 2 cents
Gimp
2 years ago |I’m not a pro.
1/160 sync is not “more than enough” in my studio, you can’t go HSS with studio lights that sync at 1/250.
If you have never done MF adjust on your lenses then they aren’t performing as they should be. They will very likely be out.
The A77 has 11 cross AF points.
1/8000th shutter speed is incredibly useful as is +/-5 compensation and 5 frames.
The extra buttons and dial, plus the highly flexible LCD make a huge difference in ergonomics and the A77 has a proper metal body.
Sounds to me like you have the equipment but don’t know what it does or why!

2 years ago |There are a few other important differences. If you want to do HDR you will miss out on the bracketing on the A77 that does -3/0/+3 or -2/0/+2 – that option is not in the A65. Makes it very usable for doing handheld HDR
This one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/adambindslev/6337097646/in/photostream was taken yesterday – handheld with the A77 and postprocessed in Photomatix and Lightroom.
And BTW – the extra dial is not just nice to have – it is essential. Especially since it can be set to do exposure correction when in P, A og S mode … that is a killer feature, which makes it easy to change exposure without loosing your sight through the finder.

2 years ago |I only shoot manual, therefore I dont need exposure compensation, micro adjusment is medres ONLY if you have back or front focus. With studio lights you need 1/250??? Please check Phillipe Halsman
You could 40 points of cross af points, but if you dont know how to use it you wont get sharp pictures. I wonder how people with Leica can survive??? LOL.
About HDR, the best photographers sets their camera by their own, they never leave that to the camera, because you need first of all to calculare the dynamic range and then decide how many photographs yo need, or maybe the A77 do the math???

2 years ago |You have failed to answer the point that there are some key differences between the A65 and the A77.
I also shoot 1/250 with studio lights and you clearly have no idea why that is important. That says it all really.
As was said, you don’t appear to know WHY the differences between the A65 and A77 are important. You claim to have had the A100, A700, A55 and A900 but you are pretty clueless to be honest…
Adam
2 years ago |That is a pretty arrogant answer. You might shoot manual only – but I dont. You might do all exposures yourself – I dont. If I am in a situation where I want to do a handheld HDR – then I am pretty happy with the bracketing. Doing it manually is not really an option without a tripod. And there are lots of situations where HDR can be used, but where a tripod is not an option.
And who are “the best photographers”? You seem to know them all …

2 years ago |The few differences between those cameras wont give you a better image, I repeat 1/160 is more than enough, you only need to know how to use your studio lights, which obviously you don’t, just aim the lights and set the power correctly and you can achieve the same results in 1/250 or 1/160. You must be one of those that once your camera can get sync at 1/500 will say that 1/250 is not enough.
I repeat, the differences between the cameras wont give you a better image, it doesnt matter if are 3 differences or 3.000, because they use the same sensor thats a FACT.
That a lot of people is willing to spend more money to get the A77 is fine.
By the way I dont need to claim anything, if you believe it or not is your problem, not mine.
One day you will grew up and find that being a pixel peeper and a tech freak wont give you a better image, and maybe that day you will have a clue what is photography about.
And remember is not the camera is the photographer who makes the difference, even more if both cameras have the same sensor
Adam
2 years ago |Why do you have a A900 – the A850 have the same sensor …
Artmas
2 years ago |I bought the A900, because at that moment the A850 was not in the market yet and I need a FF camera Adam.
I really apologize if I was arrogant with you, I’m just trying to show you that those big differences are more in our minds than in reallity. Both cameras can do the same, the A77 just makes your live easier that’s it, and I respect those who wants that.
On the other hand if you let me, can I give you an advice??? Try to shoot only in manual mode, I know its harder, but once you handle that you will be the one who makes the desicions and not the camera, and believe me you will see the difference in your photos, pelase read this as an advice, not in other way.
And again sorry for being rude
SonyA77
2 years ago |But you are WRONG.
The differences are there for a reason, just because YOU don’t know why there are differences between the A65 and A77 does not mean that the “differences are more in our minds than in reallity”.
As for manual your images will not be any better than those who shoot on PAS. If you think they will be, you are simply clueless or a bit of a manual snob.
Get over yourself!
Adam
2 years ago |I shoot in manual – and I shoot in Auto. I see no reason to limit myself to one or the other. When I am doing reportage or streetphotography work I tend to rely on a combination of Aperture priority – combined with exposure compensation. In that environment speed is of the essence.
When I do lanscape or stilleben I shoot manual.
So each function for different uses. The A77 gives me both options – and some of those options are missing on the A65.

2 years ago |I decided to hedge my bets by buying the Sony Alpha A35 on special for $549.00 CDN. So far I a quite happy with it, although not 100% satisfied with EVF system. Will “wait and see” about buying an A77 down the road a bit, hopefully at a lower price than it is at the moment.

2 years ago |I have had my a77 now for a couple weeks, I enjoy having the top LCD for setting the iso and stuff I actually look at it quite a bit which is why I don’t get why people keep saying its pointless? I hope Sony continues putting top LCDs on there upper end models I will be considering an a99 or something a year or two from now. I do have one issue with the camera, Color banding in the video, it sometime shows up, what the hell? is this a soft ware issue? user error? or faulty product? other than that this is a great camera and to anyone considering an a65 or a77 I think the most important difference is not the features and weather sealing but the size, if your a dude with big hands don’t even think about the a65 !! go straight to the a77 size matters, the a77 fits my hand perfectly and feels like a soild professoinal tool!!
Adam
2 years ago |Agreed – i also use the top LCD a lot more than I would have thought. Most of the time I have the screen folded inwards and use the top LCD to set exposure – and the finder when I photograph.
I have also shut off the preview-function – which enables me to stay in the zone and not “chimp” and look at the screen for each and every shot. A lot more pleasant to shoot that way
Gimp
2 years ago |Yeah I tried the A65 far too small for me.
Artmas
2 years ago |Hi, I’m glad you are a Happy A77 owner, and I dont want to argue with anyone here, I guess we can all say what we think, but lets go to the point. Top LCD its a matter of taste, before I start shooting I set, ISO, Aperture, Speed and WB. After that I only change the speed if the lights conditions change, but most of the time I take my shoots based on DOF then I set the front dial to change the speed because thats the one I’m gong to constantly use to compensate the light, something that I can do since A55 without taking my eye out of the viewfinder, but if you prefer go and see to the top LCD its ok too, but you are loosing one of the biggest adavantages that EVF has IMHO. Of course size matters, but when you talk about sensor size. You can get an A850 or even an A900 body for less of the A77 with the New kif lens, then you got the ergonomics and the sensor size that’s to IMHO.
If size of the body has to be big, I wonder how Nex7 was the most hot preselling camera with such a small boda??? I’m 1.85 mts tall and believe me, my hands are BIG and I want the Nex7
Just my 2 cents

If you are still sitting on the fence don’t wait any longer, when the current stock is gone there won’t be any more A77s until Feb-March. Used ones are already going for higher than retail on the auction sites. I seriously doubt the price will come down.
