Yep, that's it. Back in the time there was no Video Sony had great sales because of coolest LiveView on market - now when "coolest thing" is the video Sony haven't got the sales are quite poor :/

Hopefully pellice-mirror camera will change the face of market :)

For sony is all business forthright, wether you are a pro or hobbyist, a passionate or amateur photographer, sony is not doing so well in the DSLR market and when they do come out with the "Superb" DSLR, it will be 2 years too late. "gearhounds" are the ones that are going to keep or kill sony in this industry. Cameras come and go, there is always that time of year that photographers have to upgrade or replace their old broken cameras. In actuality, Sony is behind canon and nikon in terms of grabing market share, and I hope you don't think that this Big Three care much about wether the minority of "Professional" Photographers need video or not, is all about sales for the masses that want to have the coolest gadgets in the block.

forthright - The issue is that Sony DSLR cameras are not selling very well. Sony is not a charity and unless these sales figures are turned around then Sony may withdraw from manufacturing DSLR cameras.
There are probably many factors contributing to Sony's poor DSLR sales but certainly one of the main factors is no video on all models and no liveview on some models. These features are essential for good sales in 2010. This year is going to be do or die for Sony's DSLR section, and I hope they do.

People who jump from system to system aren't usually photographers. They're gear hounds who wrap far too much of themselves into what they own and not nearly enough of their soul into what they shoot. I'm sorry, but that is the way it is. The true professional uses what they have to their best advantage and, wow, they manage to be successful in doing so. I know guys who are still out there with the original 1D and D1x and, somehow, their images haven't crumbled under the weight of so-called obsolescence.

This issue of suddenly feeling behind the curve because someone else brings something new to the market is ridiculous. And it is this notion of perceived obsolescence and the odd insecurity wrapped within it that in fact needs to be dispelled. Asap.

Sony is waiting to do video because, as that chart shows, it is the entry level photographer who is buying the HD DSLR... and these people are not prepared, either in hardware or in skill, for the level of bs they are going to have to deal with when they attempt to work with their various formats. The cameras can't autofocus, they can't pan rapidly, or even at moderate speeds, without distortion, there's no manual control or very little, they can't auto expose half the time, and they can't auto WB half the time. Tell me again: is offering the feature being the front runner or is offering it correctly being behind? I can't tell.

The EOS 7D is another category altogether but even with the 1DMkIV, when you watch those videos like Nocturne, those videos took 3-4 weeks to make, with a crew of 30 to 40 people. And then you'll talk to the guys who made the videos and, off line, they'll tell you what a pain in the a$$ it was and that they could've done the same thing with a 3CCD cam in about 4 days... minus the depth of field control that comes with the larger sensor and lenses built for such. They had to work around the limitations more than they were able to work with the strengths.

Time will tell but I think it's that time that Sony really does have on their side. Thank Nikon for beta testing the sensors for them... especially when it comes to the fore. Sony owns 40% of the video camcorder market... it is a priori that their HD DSLR Video implementation, when it does come down, is going to be superb.

I'm no fanboy but putting Sony, of all companies, out of a video tech race is asinine. Just because they weren't first doesn't mean they'll come in last. Hardly.

I don't know about Sony's strategy to wait too long to come out with a DSLR W/video, it seems that canon and nikon are ahead of sony in market share. is going to take Sony another 2-3 years in order to catch up with canon and nikon. Sorry Sony but if you don't have news about a new DSLR w/video, I am jumping to canon's bandwagon, and when Sony comes up with a Video DSLR that has what canon is missing, canon is not going to wait a year (Like sony did) to come out with something that can match that of Sony's.

...I can hear the cries of all the sony fanboys, just seeing their precious on the bottom of the foodchain (market share chart).
