Bower 24mm for Sony discounted.
The Bower 24mm f/1.4 for Sony just got a $200 discount at BHphoto (Click here). Some of you may say…who the heck is Bower? Don’t worry it’s just Samyang trying to fool you again
Samyang is using different brand names in different countries: In USA Rokinon, Samyang, Opteka, Bower and in Europe: Samyang, Rokinon, Walimex, Falcon, Vivitar. So don’t be worried. This is a great quality lens! Just read the final conclusion from the Photozone review (Canon mount version): “It may be a bit embarrassing for the original manufacturers but the Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC manages to produce a quality similar to its roughly double priced counterparts.”
By the way, their new 24mm tilt-shift lens should be released in March!

If it is good, it might be worth the $900 savings to lose the autofocus and autoaperture with focus peaking and the massive depth of field outside of shots where you would be wide open or more than a few feet from the subject.

4 months ago |It’s actually a better landscape lens than the ZA 24/2 (much flatter field curvature and less astigmatism). However, it never has the same bite/contrast as the ZA (quite dull imagery).

Fact that one of billions of shops makes a discount of it doesn’t instantly mean it’s discontinued… >_>

But then again, maybe he made another typo and corrected it after your post.

4 months ago |I’m pretty happy with the 14mm Bower lens, but manual focus on a lens with that short of a focal distance is hardly ever an issue, even at 2.8. It seems like a pretty good trade off for the money. To get a lens nearly that wide from Sony would be $2k vs. $350 for the Bower. Sure, the Zeiss pops a little more, and is a bit sharper, but that doesn’t really help me take better pictures.
Likewise, here with $500 vs $1300, I could see some going for the more expensive lens if it’s a lens you often use, but for me the 24-70 covers what the 24/2.0 does enough to not be able to justify the extra prime lens.

Samyang itself only sells lenses under its own brands, the other brands you find them being sold under are rebranders & distributers like Vivitar, Opteka and Bower
