This a good camera with a big APS sensor. The problem is that you can get a very old camera in a very short time, cause SONY has launched the VG20 model which one is the same camera with very improved software. VG10 record only in interlaced mode, 1080i (50-60 fps), no audio mic control… etc

NEX VG20 has progressive mode record (1080p), 25fps, audio controls, more bit transfer.

Then you can get a very old camera as soon as you buy it…

Otherwise, this question has a very bad solution cause SONY is done the same unethical sale with NEX series photo and videocameras, giving the same hardware (the same camera) with different software (firmware) adding more and more funcionalities to the newest models.. Maybe SONY has launched NEX3, NEX5 and NEX7 in less of 2 years. But SONY could attend at the clients of NEX3, NEX5 letting them to upgrade the firmware which one more credibility to the brand. But SONY has chosen the unethical and canibalize way getting an undeterminated number of clients with old cameras in a few months. Is possible que a high percentage of these people not choose SONY on the next purchase…

THE GOOD:

* Big sensor
* BIG camera (seem semipro)
* Interchangable lens

THE BAD:

* Very old software (firmware)
* No record in Progressive mode
* No record in 24, 25 fps
* No motor zoom
* Difficult access to the options
* No many lens. The biggest one is a 28-200
* No audio mic control

Sony’s NEX VG10 is a great hybrid between Sony’s camcorders and DSLRs. It has the large CMOS sensor of a DSLR for shallow DOF and interchangeable lenses, plus the ergonomics and microphone of a camcorder.

The UI isn’t too intuitive and gets some taking used to, but is far from unusable.
