Canada: Sony A77 out of Stock. More A77 in January only!
A couple of days ago I told you that soon the A77 stocks would be gone. And because of the Thai flood new stocks of A77 will be available next year only. But I didn’t think that It would be THAT soon! Sony Canada already has no more A77 left. As you can see on their website (Click here) the new estimated ship date is January 17!
One reason more to buy it now if you want the camera. Check the availability status at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay.

2 years ago |I tested the A77 at a local store and they told me the same. There are a few units in stock but then you have to wait til next year.
PhotoNut
2 years ago |Poor Sony.
They wait 3 years to update their APS-C flagship and then can’t even provide any supply for the most lucrative Christmas/Holiday shopping season. Meanwhile the competitor’s flagship APS-C models (Nikon D7000/D300s,Canon 7D) are fully stocked in the retail channel and moving units at a brisk pace.
I hope the on-paper “poor” sales of the A77 over the holiday season will not lead to bad conclusions and decisions inside Sony.

2 years ago |Well, I’m still hopeful. Every Sony-website in Europe expects stock in November.

2 years ago |I bet they re-called them all back because firmware issues and had them sitting in crates to get new firmware at the facility in Thailand. Then floods came and more than just the firmware needs to be fixed.
hanugro
2 years ago |No need to go back to factory to update firmware. It can be done at Sony’s country of sale warehouse. But I agree that some may have that fate.
Gorn
2 years ago |Ok, they got me. Just ordered mine.
Hope it doesn’t cancel…
Gorn
2 years ago |…and it seems I ordered the last one from the site I went to, it now says “delivery date unknown”… phew!

2 years ago |Well, I think with this notice Andrea pushed the A77 sales quite a bit.
This should make up for the “no real RAW” discussion
Not that any of this matters now that the camera production is stopped, which is sad…but such is life

2 years ago |I am lucky, have mine! Made in Thailand, firmware 1.03. Now – start shooting!!

2 years ago |Simply Electronics still has some a77 in stock as of 4.00pm PST Today.
a77 Body $1499.95 ONE UNIT
a77 with 16-50 lens $2299.95 ONE UNIT
They had 2 bodies on Friday but I ordered one!!!… should arrive Friday 4.
Good luck!

2 years ago |I got word from one of my SONY suppliers that after the next shipment that comes in there won’t be any more SONY A77s until at least mid to late January. Most of the ones coming in are to fill pre-orders so if you can find one and you want 1… grab it!
voyager42
2 years ago |Well I know DigitalRev in Hong Kong has them… They’ll have another one soon!!!… I bought a UK model a77 Body with Vertical Grip that I am shipping back to them on Friday 4th… I paid $1355 but I see they have increased to $1420 since last week and I just paid $1499 for a US model from Simply Electronics.
If a UK model a77 works for you then DigitalRev has them for $1420 with about $35 Fedex shipping. I got mine in 24 hours!
My guess is there will be a few turning up on eBay now that the supply has dried up… Expect to see them going for $2500!!!…

2 years ago |I’m not trying to look stupid or something… But what does it mean “backorderable”?
Wheelus
2 years ago |Received my A65 today with version 1.03 in the US. For those desperate for the A77, remember that Asian and European models use a different video format than the US cameras.
Marco
2 years ago |I pre-ordered my A77 with lens from the sony store in Newmarket Ontario on October 3 and am still waiting. Growing really impatient as other suppliers have received and delivered them already. Anyone know of any stores stocking them?
Robby
2 years ago |I just got my a77 today from Amazon USA. version 1.03.
Does anyone know when the next firmware update is scheduled to be released.
so far, I like the camera… but it’s slow! Firmware update needed to speed things up.

2 years ago |I have a question for all of the pixel voyeurs out there. In reading my new A65 manual I seen that in the 16:9 aspect ratio that the image is 20 MPs. Would shooting in 16:9 give one the ability to push the usable ISO a little higher?
Ollder
2 years ago |No. 16:9 just cuts out a small band from images upper and lower edge. 2 MP each. It’s the same as if you crop your normal image – no difference in pixel density or noise.

2 years ago |I placed the kit version of Sony A77 and 16-50 through Digitalrev. The website said “In Stock”, however after I paid and placed an order they told me that the estimated delivery date is Nov 17-20?? I cancelled the order! Amazon.com USA has the body only in stock!,,,

2 years ago |Who is paying for an over rated camera that has horrible jpeg quality and unacceptable raw?

2 years ago |I expect trolls aren’t, but then, what do they know about cameras?
Wheelus

2 years ago |“I expect trolls aren’t, but then, what do they know about cameras?”
Trolls? Really? It is what it is. I think the fanboys on here have some major denial to deal with.
Enough news about availability and reviews – where’s the info on the full frame cameras?
SonyA77
2 years ago |Well the A77 doesn’t have “horrible jpeg quality and unacceptable raw” so yes, it is a troll.
Not-a-Troll
2 years ago |I’m not a troll, I was just saying the reviews on the camera aren’t so great, and if you werent such a fanboy, but more of a photographer who cares more about his art first then about his brand loyalty, you might realize that.
While you touting your A77 (if you can find one), I will be taking yet another assignment that I might shoot with my A100, A700, Nikon D300, and have more of my work published.
So if Troll means great photographer, yes, I am a troll.
Bottom line, I dont care about Sony, Nikon, etc, I dont care about some marketing lies about 12fps, I care only about the output, the final image product. Right now the reviewers, and image samples peg the 5N as a better overall image between the A77 & 5N.
And again, my point has been served, youd rather talk about Sony tech, & how Sony is going to put Nikon & Canon out of business (anyone who thinks this by the way is very stupid), than to go out and work on their technique and what makes a better photo.
Sincerely,
Meathead

2 years ago |I’m still four-square for buying A77 but definitely not gonna pre-order. Luckily I have a camera to use while Im waiting the A77 coming ‘properly’ to stocks. Hopefully with updated FW and for slightly lowered price.
But january is far away; I’ll have a lot of time to save more money (now I have almost enough for A77 on today’s prices) and on January we probably know much more about A99. So, who knows…
mike
2 years ago |Thankfully I per-ordered it, and picked it up at my Canadian Sony store on the 28th. There are a lot of features I love about this camera, as this is an upgrade from my A700. The only thing I have issue with is the EVF. Its amazing during the day, but at night its so tough to use with all the noise. I know I’ll adapt but that’s something I’m surprised I didn’t read about until I got the camera in my hands.

2 years ago |stocks in mid to end of jan? this is a very unfortunate move as canikon will probably announce something bigger by then
. And if NEX-7 were to be released next year, then it will face a greater challenge by fuji’s revolutionary ‘better than ff sensor’ and future olympus mirrorless systems.
SonyA77
2 years ago |Don’t hold your breath expecting Canon to announce something new at a similar price to rival the A65/77.
SonyA77
2 years ago |Next year it will be cheaper, probably cheap enough for me to buy with the 16-50mm rather than body only. That’s fine by me, I’ll wait a bit, my A700 is fine.
Adi
2 years ago |If you look at previous cameras, the drop in price will be slow and small. The (good) lenses prices is even smaller. Take the fact that will be months of shortages, I do not expect real drops in the next year or so for A77 or NEX7.
Maybe in one year you ewill buy the kit for $100 less than now but for sure you will not buy the kit (with 16-50 lens) for the price of the body. With the 18-55 maybe as the lens itself can be found for $50-100.
SonyA77
2 years ago |You can already buy the A77 in the UK at significantly less than the street price at launch. It depends which Sony Centre you go to as they are franchises.
I’ll wait.
Adi
2 years ago |UK may be another story as you usualy get overinflated prices anyway.
Ollder
2 years ago |…sorry (typo, nothing to say)

2 years ago |Good news:

NEX7K (kit)
The estimated date changed from Dec 7 2011 ( yesterday ) to November 16 2011 (today). This means stock is comming (probably already in warehouses in Canada) !
Ken
2 years ago |for those of you that live near the US/Canada border, you can always order it from a US seller, and have it shipped to one of those PO Boxes on the US side. You’ll save a lot more money anyway. OR shipped to you but pay for the shipping and tax, it’s $100 cheaper anyway.
scorche
2 years ago |As far as I know … the problem with ordering outside of Canada is that it causes some issues with warranty. Namely you wouldn’t be able to send it in for repairs in Canada.
Stuart
2 years ago |The US model is only $100 bucks less in this case so not worth the hassle. Even less value if you ever need warranty repair.
NOTE: In order to increase my chances of getting one, I ordered one from Sony.ca, Henry’s Barrie and Henry’s Newmarket. I received one from Sony.ca yesterday and I have just moments ago cancelled my order at both Henry stores. Call either Henry’s if you want one… they may be available.
