Last week I reported that a highly trusted source confirmed Sony will launch a higher than A7 model (let’s call it “A9” for now). It will have [shoplink 46602 ebay]dual XQD card slot[/shoplink] and unlimited RAW burst. The same source also added a small info about the camera size:

“The size will be bigger than [shoplink 46453 ebay]A7RII[/shoplink], but smaller than conventional DSLR, such as [shoplink 46766 ebay]5D3[/shoplink].”

The source did not tell us when the camera will be announced. As you know on Sunday at 2pm Las Vegas time Sony has a major product announcement event. But it’s absolutely unclear if the Sony A9 will be announced on Sunday or much later at Photokina. I know the NAB show is for broadcasters. But Sony introduced the A7s at the NAB show two years ago. And the A9 certainly would have a lot of advanced new video features. So it’s not illogical that Sony could use this event for a new A9 launch. But that said…this is all pure speculation. So don’t dream too much, there may be “only” new camcorders on Sunday :)

A source told me that Sony invited many photographers at their Las Vegas NAB event on Sunday. This is highly unusual for Sony and you know…where there is smoke there is fire. I have absolutely no solid rumor yet, but I am starting to believe Sony announce a new Full Frame E-mount camera this Sunday.

So please mark that on your calendar: I will embed the live video stream of the event which is set to start on Sunday April 17 at:

These are the very first images of the new Batis 18mm f/2.8 E-mount lens. It will be announced by Zeiss today at 11 am Berlin time. And those are the specs:

– 11 lenses in 10 groups 10. Has four aspherical lens
– Distagon-based design
– Newly adopted floating element
– Dust and water proof
– Electromagnetic diaphragm
– Has a minimum focusing distance of 0.25m
– Filter diameter of 77mm
– Weight 330g
– OLED display
– Quiet linear motor AF

I got a rumor from a source saying that the new Batis 18mm lens is scheduled to ship in May. It’s likely the lens will be announced this week on April 14.

Still even if the rumor is correct I wonder how Zeiss will manage to ship the lens that quickly. They still struggle to make enough of the current two lenses. They are out of Stock in most stores:

I just got this from a Meyer “internal source”:

The image above from photographer Firat Bagdu is the first image you see that is shot with the upcoming new Meyer Optik Görlitz prime lens with native Sony mount (not clear if A or E). The lens will be announced on April 14 at 11am London time (yeah same time as the Zeiss announcement!).

The lens is a mid range prime with “near-macro” capability. The look of the lens is historic but the internal lens design is new. This will be Meyer’s most technologically advanced lens. I have been told the specs are the same of one of their historic lenses. You take the guess which one it could be:
