Sony press conference on January 5! Finally some FE lens news?

sony-ces-2016-640x324

Ubergizmo got that official invitation from Sony. On January 5 Sony will have a major press release with product announcement. As you can see on the image we have a Sony A7rII camera. So maybe maybe maybe we will finally get a clue about the new Sony FE lenses and A6xxx? Sony delayed the FE lens roadmap presentation this autumn. Probably because of roadmap changes to satisfy the customers demand of fast primes and fast zooms.

FE lens rumored so far are:
24-70mm f/2.8 G
85mm f/1.4 G
24-70mm GM (compact zoom)
new telephoto lens

Pentax FF with Sony sensor is coming in Spring.

pentaxFF
While we are still waiting Sony to release a new Full Frame A-mount camera we got some news from the competition. Pentax will launch a new FF DSLR with Sony sensor in Spring 2016. They just published a special site about the camera here: www.pentax.com/en/pentaxff/.

It’s unclear yet which Sony FF sensor it will use (36 or 42 MP). But it’s pretty certain Pentax will have a High Resolution modes wich uses the on sensor stabilization shifting mode to create a high-resolution image out of multiple shots. Something Sony may could add on current A7rII, A7II and A7sII cameras via firmware upgrade?

(SR4) New Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 FE lens gets listed at Sony Assist system!

SEL24-70mmG

The Sony Assist website (access for Sony employees only) has now listed a new FE lens! It’s the long-awaited 24-70mm f/2.8 G Full Frame E-mount lens! There is yet no image or other detailed spec of the lens but if it’s listed it means it surely is going to be announced soon (between now and CES in early January).

I thank the source for sending me this and I hope he can find some more lenses on the database. He should check for SEL1635G, SEL8514G and some more combinations ;)

Thanks!

UPDATE: Here is another image that shows the drop down list:

Voigtlander has no plan to make faster wide angle native E-mount lenses…yet.

SAR reader Billi sent me this:

I emailed Voigtlander the other day asking about the possibility of a [shoplink 42593 ebay]21mm f/1.8 or f/2 lens (like the Ultron)[/shoplink], being redesigned for the Sony FE system like the 15/12/10mm they’re about to drop; although slightly cryptic (perhaps because of translation?) this was their response:

Dear,
thank you for your mail. To your question: …time will tell…., but not in the next time.
regards
xxx

I do hope Voigtlander will read this: Please give us some fast lenses in native E-mount! Thanks :)

Noticed something strange? New Sony A68 is not available for preorder outside Europe.

A68

Well, if the just announced Sony A68 was supposed to get back some “confidence” in the A-mount system well it seems it’s definitely not enough. A couple of things that not look…right are:

  1. The new Sony A68 can be predordered in Europe only (See Technikdirekt). There is yet zero info if the camera will be ever available in other regions.
  2. Sony Australia officially said they will no more sell A-mount stuff. That seems to hint that no major A-mount stuff is supposed to be announced in future?

So we are back again at the start: What’s Sony’s real plan with A-mount? Please Sony give us some “solid” answer. A new A99II example would do just fine :)
