Zeiss product release event by end of this week (Diglloyd). Wide angle Otus and Loxia coming?

loxia-35mm

On Friday (9am Berlin time) Sony will announce their new (FF?) E-mount camcorder. But there will be another announcement from Zeiss too: Diglloyd confirmed that Zeiss will have a product announcement by end of this week. And we can really hope this is where we will also see the announcement of the new wide angle Loxia FE lens! Knowing Zeiss the lens will have one of the specs “Borrowed” from the ZM series:

There are rumors “saying” there will be also a new Otus wide angle lens. There will be no new Batis and no new Touit lens this year.

You can follow Sony’s press conference at 9am CET on 11 September!

SonyIBC

On September 11 at 9am CET time Sony will have a press conference at the IBC show in Amsterdam. And you can follow the event live on the following Sony Uk page. I will also embed the live streaming on SAR.

Sony will ddefinitely announce a new E-mount 4K camcorder. There is a very small chance the might announce the A6xxx too. There is almost near zero chance to see the new A7sII. The PhotoPlus show in October is the more “ideal” place to announce the A7sII.

(SR3) Sony has a 4K camcorder prototype with same A7s sensor and internal 4K recording.

Image on top shows the Sony A7s sensor.

This comes via one of my highly trusted sources. He got news about a new Sony camcorder prototype having the same Sony A7s sensor and internal 4K recording. The source added that he doesn’t know yet when that camcorder will be announced. Let’s hope that is the new FS camcorder that Sony will announce on September 11.

According to a reliable source Sony plans to update two current A-mount lenses: The [shoplink 38694 ebay]135mm f/1.8[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 38695 ebay]85mm f/1.4[/shoplink]. The source did not unveil when those lenses will be announced. But the main improvement will be the autofocus performance (no change on the basic optical quality).

(SR4) No other new Zeiss Batis lens will be announced in 2015. One new Loxia to be shown at PhotoPlus in October.

loxia-35mm

According to a “Zeiss source” there is no plan to release another new Batis lens in 2015. Their first goal now is to see how good the current two Batis lenses will sell and get a feedback from readers about the prefered future focal lengths. I will do a Poll about that on SAR very soon!

But there will be one wide angle Loxia announcement soon. I have beent told the lens will be shown at the PhotoPlus show in October. The current FE Loxias are based on the ZM line. So the wide angle lens could be too based on one of those:

Sigma CEO is considering to develop compact FE prime lenses!

Image courtesy: Ming Thein (original file on Flickr).

Premise: Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki  is a person I highly respect for his very personal approach on photography. Unlike so many CEO’s out there he is a visionary and a dreamer. Something we deeply miss in our current business culture :(

Ming Thein interviewed Mr. Kazuto Yamaki during his visit in Kuala Lumpur. It’s a very interesting article I invite you to read. There is also a small hint about what could be the first Sigma lenses for the Sony FE system:

A fast FF lens or lens of a certain resolving power is still going to be a certain size regardless of flange distance. Though they are looking into Sony FF lenses, there may be compromises made for size/resolving power/cost reasons – similar to the f2.8 M4/3 and APSC lenses they have made previously.

The current Sony/Zeiss lens line up is very pricey. I certainly would like to get some nice cheap but also good quality f/2.8 prime lenses!

Question to SAR readers: Let’s say Sigma would launch a range of 24mm 35mm 50mm 85mm f/2.8 FE lenses…

Will you buy the new Sony 20-70mm G lens?
