(SR3) Sony A6xxx/a7xxxx has a new backlit sensor and RGBW pixel array.

A new source shared some more details about the soon to be announced new Sony E-mount camera.

1) Sony is preparing the next step in video quality and experience

2) This is an interchangeable lens camera with
– Best in class low light performance (backlit sensor and RGBW pixel array)
– internal 4k video recording with full sensor readout in 60fps
– extremly fast autofocus system

This would become the world’s first System camera with RGBW sensor. More info about that sensor can be read via Sony.net:

The built-in “RGBW Coding” function which adds W (White) pixels to the conventional range of RGB (Red-Green-Blue) pixels has realized higher sensitivity, enabling high-quality shooting with low noise even in dark indoor or night settings. While the addition of W (White) pixels improves sensitivity, it has the problem of degrading image quality. However, Sony’s own device technology and signal processing realizes superior sensitivity without hurting image quality.

This is an info that still has to be confirmed by trusted sources. But my guts tells me that new source is spot on with the info he shared!

So when will it be announced? There is the IFA in Berlin (Sept. 7) and the IBC in Amsterdam (Sony press day on Sept. 11). There will be certainly new Sony action cameras, maybe QX news too. And I hope the 4K A6xxx will be announced in one of those events too. But so far no trusted source confirmed when the camera will be announced.

A “spacey” Sony camera design by Ryan David Francis

During the last couple of months I did a lot of “background work” with sources. And I am now back on track on reliable SR4-SR5 rumors (and some funny improbable low ranked rumors). The coming weeks I will increase the number of articles on Sony news and Sony rumors. So to be sure you do not miss them subscribe our feeds and join our social networks:

(SR4) Let’s forget the A7rII buzz…Sony will soon announce the next new E-mount camera! ….A6xxx likely.

roadmap

The leaked Sony roadmap shows how the A6xxx should have been released sometimes between April-June this year. Got delayed because of some hardware issues (rumor).

Ok guys, let’s stop the A7rII talk for a moment to go back to what really excites us GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) syndrom photographers…rumors about future Sony cameras :)
The last couple of days two trusted and one anonymous source (Thanks!) confirmed Sony is about to launch a new E-mount camera. I am yet not 100% sure but this should be finally(!!!!!!!) the new A6xxx (or A7000) camera!

One source told me it has a very new sensor. And he added SAR readers will love it! I hope to get specs soon! Stay tuned on SAR and subscribe here to get info when it matters:

And here it is: Leica will launch the very first Sony A7 camera series competitor in October!

[shoplink 39731 ebay]Leicaflex[/shoplink]
The new Leica FF mirrorless will have a design based on the original [shoplink 39731 ebay]Leicaflex camera[/shoplink].

MirrorlessRumors (Click here) broke the news and posted some detailed info about the very first Sony A7 line competition. Lecia will launch a new Full Frame Mirrorless (non-rangefinder) system camera in October! Here is the info via MR:

Coming soon: An interchangeable lens version of the Leica Q, with AF lenses. Due out in time for Photo Plus, in October.

This will not be the replacement to the M240 but rather a new system with new AF lenses, bulkier than the Q or M lines, with an EVF and lighter build despite the bulk. Sensor will be similar, if not the same, as the Q’s sensor. Anticipate that it will come bundled with a 50 mm f/2 Summicron lens and retail around $8,000 USD. Build quality will be comparable to the M line and Q line…much of the Q’s tech, including in body image stabilization, electronic shutter, and built in high res EVF, will be included. The camera may harken in design to [shoplink 39731 ebay]Leicaflex bodies[/shoplink] of years gone by…like a bulkier XT-1 with more simplified layout. This may end up being called the new “R” camera and may well take old R lenses via adapter, along with new AF R lenses. Not sure that it will take M lenses.

Anticipate that Leica will begin to simplify options, but canceling the T line and possibly the X-line. What will remain are the DLux, VLux, M, Q, S lines…

Good, at last Sony will get some competition although the price of the Leica camera body is rumored to be around a heavy $6,000. It’s a good news for us Sony camera owners too. Without competition we are condemned to pay a high price on new cameras and lenses. With Leica and maybe in future Canon and Nikon FF mirrorless things will change.

It’s also worth to mention that the mirrorless tech like in body stabilization and the sensor are made by Panasonic. Maybe one day Panasonic will join the new Leica system too?

World’s first Nikon F to E-mount autofocus adapter will get full A7rII phase detection AF support!

I got great news from the developer of the world’s first Nikon G to Sony E-mount (Full Frame) electronic aperture and autofocus adapter. They are going to add full phase detection support on Sony A7rII cameras! He told me it will take some more time to develop that additional feature. So there is yet no official release date although I expect the adapter to be sold within 2015 and branded by Commlite. That company already makes plenty of adapters which you can find for sale on [shoplink 38429 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. This includes the electronic AF adapter for [shoplink 38430 ebay]Canon EF lenses on Sony E-mount (Click here)[/shoplink].

Here is a video showing the autofocus at work. But please keep in mind this video has been taken on an early prototype version without PDAF support. Autofocus will be much faster and much more accurate once the development is finished. I show this video only as a proof that the adapter is real :)

Sony A99 gets completely removed from the official Sony.net site.

Bildschirmfoto 2015-08-20 um 10.32.17

The official Sony.net site removed the Sony A99 from their product page. We have to see if that’s just a “mistake” or if Sony really discontinued the camera. It will be interesting to see if Sony Tokyo will decide to release the long due new A99II or not. Because so far from what I heard the A99II development has finished. But Sony Tokyo is evaluating if there is still a demand for such a camera or not.
