(SR4) These are the full A7II E-mount FF camera specs!

omd_em5_1

The Olympus OMD 5 axis stabilization diagram.

Important note: It really looks like there will be a new A7II now and a new A9 coming in January/February! So two E-mount FF to come and not one!

These are the specs of the A7II posted by Digicameinfo. This clearly sounds not like the E-mount PRO (A9?) that is likely to be announced in January/February. This is very likely an “Updated” version of the A7:

A7II specs (translated via google):
24.3 million pixels FF sensor
5-axis in body stabilization (same as the Olympus E-M1)
LCD monitor 3.0-inch 1.23 million dot. 107 degrees up, and tilt 41 degrees below
– EVF 0.5-inch 2.36 million dot
– ISO100-25600 (extended with ISO50). Video ISO200-25600
The shutter speed is 30 seconds -1/8000 seconds
270 sheets at the number of possible shots EVF use. LCD monitor when using 350 sheets
Continuous shooting 2.5 frames / sec. When speed priority continuous shooting 5 frames / sec.
Video XAVC S, AVCHD, MP4
– The battery is NP-FW50
The size of 126.9mm x 95.7mm x 59.7mm
Weight 599g (including battery and memory)
Vertical position grip VG-C2EM (sold separately)
Media Memory Stick PRO Duo / PRO-HG Duo / XC-HG Duo, SD / SDHC / SDXC (UHS-I compatible)

Compared to the current A7 the A7II thicker (due the different grip). Weights 100 gram more. The camera should be announced within the next days already!

(SR4) Next Sony surprise: Sony to announce the A7II E-mount with 5 axis stabilization soon?

omd_em5_1

The Olympus OMD 5 axis stabilization diagram.

Well, it looks like Sony has plenty of surprises on the horizon. Digicameinfo reports that Sony will soon announce the α7II (ILCE-7M2). The “updated” A7 camera has following features:
5-axis in body stabilization (same as the Olympus E-M1)
Tilting 3 inches 1.23 million dot LCD screen
Shape and grip design are different than current A7 series.
Comes along the new VG-C2EM vertical grip (it takes two NP-FW50 batteries)

The weird thing is that SAR sources tell there is a second(!) new PRO model coming in January/February with:
– Advanced version of the A6000 hybrid AF system
– Weather sealed and mroe high quality body
– Sony will also NOT re-use the 36MP (A7r) or 24MP (A7 and A99) sensor.

There is yet no other info about sensor specs and final release of the camera. Also to be answered is if that is just an “updated” A7 or the new rumored A9. The addition of the 5 axis stabilization is definitely a MASSIVE welcome news! I just hope Digicameinfo sources are right on this (they usually are). Stay tuned on SAR!

(SR5) New PRO Full Frame A9 E-mount camera is placed above the A7 series.

Fake A9r rendering at SonyAlphaForum (post your dream A9 renderings there!).

One more thing about the new E-mount PRO FF camera coming in late January or early February. I have been told by trusted sources this camera will not be a A7/s/r replacement! It will be the first of a new line. The sources didn’t share the name of the camera but it’s highly likely this camera will be named “Sony A9“.
The camera will cost more than the current A7 models. I also have been told the Sony A7s will also see a first smaller price drop before the A9 announcement.

Specs of the A9 are not known yet but it has the fastest AF of any Sony mirrorless camera yet (more advanced than the one used by the A6000). Sony will also NOT re-use the 36MP (A7r) or 24MP (A7 and A99) sensor. Trusted sources told me the sensor is brand new.

Stay tuned on SAR, we have an exciting time ahead!

(SR2) Sony quits the Cybershot line and keeps RX and QX line only?

Image made by Usperedi.

I don’t know if that makes sense but apparently there has been a big decision taken by Sony. They could soon announce the “termination” of the entire Cybershot line. All resources will move to the RX and QX line development. According to the source this decision has already been made and we will not be seeing any more Cybershots from this point onwards. But for now this rumor is rated with a low SR2 level. Hope Trusted Sources will confirm (or deny) the rumor after reading this. Thanks!

(SR3) Sigma ART 24mm f/1.4 coming Q1.

sigma_art_24mm

SigmaRumors believes the new Sigma 24mm f/1.4 ART lens will be announced in Q1 2015 already. Other rumored lenses for 2015 are the 16-20mm f/2.0 ART and the 14-24mm f/4.0 ART. All very nice lenses but Sigma really should speed up the A-mount release. Really makes nos ense to have to wait over one year for the A-mount version :(

Where are those lenses coming?
50mm ART: not in Stock in USA Amazon (Click here) at BHphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here). And in Europe at WexUK (Click here) and WexDe (Click here).

(SR4) Detailed spec sheet of the new Sony APCS (active pixel color sampling) sensor!

It’s Saturday and I actually had the plan to go out with my family. But an anonymous source just sent me those images (via Cnbeta.com) I have to post straight away :) Tech freaks will be happy to see the details of the world first Sony APCS (active pixel color sampling) sensor! The full document can be download here. Be kind note :) If that news is helpful for you link back to SAR when reposting, retweet it and like it on facebook. Thanks!

Like I told you a couple of days ago this is a 1.5inch sensor likely to be introduced in early 2015 in some video cam. The Sony sensor has the world first sensor capable of capturing the full color spectrum info in one single pixel. Sigmas Foveon sensor used on DP cameras uses three layered RGB pixel ordered vertically but the new Sony sensor has just one single layer. The sensor is also capable of Global Shutter and 2K recording at crazy 16,000 frames per second.

Today I got those detailed graphs showing how the sensor works. “Structure 1” shows how there is a color filter on top of the sensor that moves horizontally. There are three different exposures for each color (Red-Green-Blue). It’s basically a “color HDR” picture instead of a “dynamic range HDR” picture :)

structure2

The sensor has a native ISO of 5120 and an impressive dynamic range of 127,69DB at that setting.

structure3

On paper that’s a hell of a sensor! Having the full color info in one a single pixel allows to have larger pixel compared to modern RGB Bayer sensors (which means less noise or higher resolution possible at same noise level). It also doesn’t need an Anti Aliasing filter anymore (increases per pixel sharpness and gets rid of moirè issues). Global Shutter is also an amazing feature (faster frames per second, no more jello effects). The only question is how this triple exposure time will work on moving subjects and long exposure shots. But I guess Sony knows well how to overcome this. Now I am curious to read the comments of SAR experts on this! Comment here or on our new SonyAlphaForum!

It’s likely that future Alpha Camera will use that kind of sensor too! Stay tuned on SonyAlphaRumors because there is really an amazing amount of rumors to come!
