The image on top shows you the currently only Sony pancake lens of the NEX line, the [shoplink 2998 ebay]16mm f/2.8 lens[/shoplink]. And if you are curious to know how big the upcoming new 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens is than good news…I have been told that it is “just a tiny bit thicker” than the prime pancake! It has the size of the currently only pancake zoom for mirrorless system on market, the Panasonic 14-42mm X. And like the Panasonic lens also the Sony 16-50mm will feature powerzoom and Image stabilization (OSS).

Reminder: The first powerzoom is the third version of the 18-200mm lens which has been announced along the NEX-EA50 (here on BH).

(SR4) NEX-5R and NEX-6 are not based on Android….

A fake illustration of an application oriented NEX camera (Source: Tinhte)

Got another small info from one trusted source. As you know the NEX-5R and NEX-6 will have integrated WiFi and Application support. Some of you asked me if the operation system is based on Android. I now have been told it is not so. I can’t wait to see how this will work for real. As you know there may be a NEX related announcement on August 28th.

Two are the main innovation son the NEX camera, the APP support and the Phase detection AF pixels on the sensor. And three new lenses are coming soon too (11-18mm f/4.0 zoom (not a pancake!), 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 pancake and 35mm f/1.8 prime lens)

(SR5) There will be not a new native E-mount Full Frame lens system! The cameras are E-A mount hybrid (and more…)

Reading comments on SAR and on other forums many said the NEX FF rumor has to be wrong because it makes no sense (physically and from a strategy point of view) to develop a new range of native E-mount Full Frame lenses. The answer is easy, Sony will NOT do that!

The idea behind the E-mount FullFrame cameras is to be compatible with current E-mount lenses (in crop mode) with A-mount lenses (with special adapter) and very important, having an E-mount with Full Frame sensor (instead of a mirrorless A-mount) will allow you to use almost any kind of lens on the camera. Think [shoplink 13363 ebay]Leica M-mount lenses (here a list of them on eBay)[/shoplink], [shoplink 13362 ebay]Canon FD lenses (here a list of them on eBay)[/shoplink] and so on…Sony’s goal is to be “hybrid” or as “universal” as possible. If that will really work out well we will see in time only…

That said I know that “some official Sony news” should arrive soon, but there is no sort of NEX-9 with FF coming now….wait until 2013. There are also multiple FF mirrorless prototypes I heard of….some with E and some with A mount. But One native E-mount FullFrame camera is coming for sure!

It’s important you add this new lens info in ongoing discussions on forums and blogs. Otherwise it sounds like SAR is crazy on that NEX FF rumor :)

Something else about the definition of rumors:
1) Rumors are per definition non facts based on non official info. No company sends me info I am posting here. On SAR we are all like Alice in Wonderland :)
2) That said, Wonderland has different kind of rumors. There are rumors I am sure they are almost pure fantasy and rumors where fantasy can miraculously turn out to be truth. And below you can find the ranking of Wonderland rumors:

Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

Enjoy the Sunday and spread the holy words of the fantasy rumor :)

…and see you on FB!

Reminder: Current E-mount (NEX) can be used with and FF sensor.

One question you have is if the current E-mount can be paired with a much larger Full Frame sensor. One of my sources answer was clearly…YES! A reminder: Sony manager Toru Kotsumotu (Source: DC.watch) and David Kilpatrick (Source: Photoclubalpha) said that a FF sensor within an E-mount is possible. And if you look at the image on top (Courtesy: Camerasize) you can see that the E-mount can indeed fit an FF sensor inside the camera. For comparison just look at the M9 mount :)

That said I am working on the full details from the new Sony NEX FF strategy. All I can say is that you don’t have to expect a sort of FF NEX-7 to be launched now. If the rumors I am getting are correct there will be a “different” kind of camera first…Stay tuned on SAR!

Something different. A close friend from our rumor websites started a small blog to tell her daily stories in Greece. If you are interested in these kind of stories check it out: www.greekdiaries.me (Good Luck!)

(SR5) Sony NEX goes Full Frame!!!!

.
.
.

This is a very short but almost revolutionary rumor…

I just learned via (many) trusted sources that the third revolution from Sony is about to happen. After the SLT and NEX introductions (first two revolutions) Sony is about to change the photographic and video industry with the third revolution… a new Full Frame NEX system!

I am now working on the details of that “revolution”. If all works fine I will have some news to post about it within the next days. I want to be 99% sure about what I am going to post here….so dear sources send me all the info you can at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com or use the anonymous contact form on the right sidebar…Thanks!

As usual with rumors keep your expectations low and be aware that this is a rumor based on mysterious sources and NON-facts. Keep also in mind that I have been told this is just a “Start” (whatever it means). But this may be the first time I believe Sony could seriously compete against Nikon and Canon and Leica in the Full Frame world. Canon C300? Nikon D800? Leica M9? Hmmm, Sony may (very) slowly catch them all :)

Stay tuned on SAR! Working within all my free time on rumors now! Please write precise questions within the comment system so that sources can read and answer them. I know the first question will be…is it possible to have a Full Frame sensor on a NEX mount? :)

Thank you all, a very tired and overworked Andrea (SAR admin).

Which one should Tamron make?
