Firmware upgrade later in year to enable 24p, 30p, 60p, 60i for the NEX-FS100!

Philip Bloom just got a very good news for all current and future Sony NEX-FS100 owners: “I couldn’t find it anywhere, but I just spoke to one of the main Sony Europe chaps who confirmed to me that Sony will be offering the NTSC upgrade to the PAL versions of the FS100 for free, probably around the Winter time.” The firmware upgrade will enable 24p, 30p, 60p, 60i recording!
Check the NEX-FS100 price and specs at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.

10 months ago |Sony should do the same should be done with all NEX cameras as well.

10 months ago |Agreed. I have a 50i version and I’d like to have the option for the 60i. I do like the look of the 50i/25p, but some things look better with higher frame rate.

10 months ago |There is no technical reason why a camera that can shoot video at 30fps cannot also do it at 24fps.
It is, frankly, asinine that these companies ship cameras which don’t have this option in this day and age.
I’d like to see 60 progressive frames per second as well, but that will require more horsepower and a sensor that can handle it.
But 24 fps should be a gimme!

10 months ago |That zoom (in the photo) lens was builded for that camera. ¿And the little NEX-3 and NEX-5? we have to accept the 55-200 because there is no other option. I would buy a 18-200 with the size and the price of a ALPHA 18-200, not this monster. It is said all the time: we want more lenses. This is the “talon of Achilles” of the NEX system.

10 months ago |Big deal. This should have been standard on this camera. So when is it going to come for the a55?

10 months ago |I don’t think I understand the rumor since the specifications already state it supports 24p, 30p, 60p, 60i recording.
Below is straight from Sony’s website:
PS (28Mbps) 1920×1080 60p,
HD FX (24Mbps) 1920×1080 30p
HD FX (24Mbps) 1920×1080 24p,
HD FX (24Mbps) 1920×1080 60i,
HD FH (17Mbps) 1920×1080 60i,
HD HQ (9Mbps) 1440×1080 60i,
HD LP (5Mbps) 1440×1080 60i,
HD FH (17Mbps),1920×1080 24p,
HD FH (17Mbps) 1920×1080 30p,
HD FX (24Mbps), 1280×720 60p,
HD FH (17Mbps) 1280×720 60p
HQ (9Mbps) 720×480/60i (30p Scan),
HQ (9Mbps), 720×480/60i (24p Scan)
After re-reading your rumor, perhaps the upgrade will allow you to shoot in PAL and NTSC.

10 months ago |This upgrade allows PAL owners of the FS100 to shoot in NTSC frame rates as well. Sony has been getting a lot slack from filmmakers such as Bloom for not offering both on the same camera. And it looks like they finally gave in.
Sadly this means nothing for the SLT’s and NEX cameras.

This is Alpha Mount Rumors right?
The FS100 is not an Alpha Mount camera.

7 months ago |hi, is the new firmware for fs 100 going to enable 24p nd 60i for PAL versions only, or the NTSC versions will also be able to shoot in 25p nd 50i ??? hence i can buy this camcorder cheaper in us and use it it eu..

5 months ago |will be fantastic if they put 120fps at 720p, and HDR system, as you know this camera can record 60fps over 60p with audio, so you can make a system to choose the best exposure for dark areas first and then a second exposure for hightlights areas and melt it in an smart way as in the NEX-5 or nex-vg10, to obtain a 30p HDR with 2 diferent exposures… tada!!!
