First pictures of the L39 to E-mount adaptors (prototype version)
Just received following pictures of the L39 to E-mount adaptor prototype. The sender wrote that “I’ve been informed that the final finish will look a little bit
different and will be available in early July. These will be made in Taiwan, but I do not know the price yet.”

2 years ago |Wow, I had no idea the e-mount was so much larger in diameter. That just looks absolutely ridiculous.

2 years ago |I think looks awesome! People are forgetting how much bigger it looks in these photos than in real life. In real life its much smaller.

2 years ago |Not too big at all. If you adapter 135 format / DX lens on it, the lens size should cover it quite easily.

2 years ago |I have two questions:
1) Who is making these adaptors?
2) Can someone please confirm that L39 is the same as M39, which is the same as LTM?
Thanks very much for your help, Sam
Matthias
2 years ago |No.
“L39″ is “LTM” (Leica thread mount), a M39x26tpi screw mount used on old Leica screw mount cameras. Sometimes it is also called “Leica M39″.
“M39″ without any suffix refers to the metric “M39x1″ screw mount, which is widely used in macro photography (and also by some other lenses).
Both mounts are very similar, but not identical, and should not be mixed, since this may cause damage to lenses, adapters and cameras. “x26tpi” means 26 threads per 25.4mm, whereas “x1″ means 26 threads per 26.0mm.
Greetings,
Matthias

2 years ago |I wonder how NEX will handle analog lenses. Hopefully m42 adapter will be good enough for everyday use cause I already tested NEX at work and its not as bad as I thought it could be, I can’t wait to see what this camera can achieve when paired with good old lenses. But I still miss EVF and kind of quick menu button

2 years ago |Hi, I have to correct myself:
While “M39″ without any suffix often refers to the metric M39x1mm screw mount, it is also often used for M39x26tpi.
And while M39x1mm is used on some of the more exotic lenses and cameras, it is M39x26tpi, which is widely used in macro photography.
Greetings,
Matthias

2 years ago |Thank you very much Matthias for taking the time to write down the lens mount definitions. Much appreciated!

This picture http://www.bokkeh.com/images/stories/products/adapters/NEX/L39/prototype/00.L39-E-Setup-View.jpg will give you an idea of how a rangefinder lens such as the Canon 50mm f/1.8 will fit on NEX-5
They plan to release M42 adapters in July as well, followed by Leica-M, Canon FD and Nikon F adapters. They are still reviewing the opportunity to manufacture Contax G and Contax / Yashica adapters.
