First pictures taken with the NEX-7 and new 50mm f/1.8 OSS lens by Rob Skoetch.
Rob Skoetch from ThePictureDesk (Click here) has been the first person to post some image samples taken with the new Sony NEX-7 and the new 50mm f/1.8 OSS lens! Those are not full size pictures but he said he will soon add them on Flickr (Click here) where you can already find A77, A65 and NEX-5n full size image samples.
The NEX-7 is probably the most requested and preordered of all new Sony cameras. It will be start shipping from early November. This is a short list of stores I found where you can preorder the camera to be the first on list (otherwise your risk to get the camera in 2012 only):
Body only: Sonystore US, Amazon US, Adorama, Sonystore Canada and in Europe at Jessops and Computeruniverse.
With 18-55mm kit lens: Sonystore US, Amazon US, Adorama, Sonystore Canada and in Europe at Jessops.
I have seen that the most requested lens to put on your NEX-7 is the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 which you can preorder here: Sonystore US, Amazon US, Adorama, Sonystore Canada.
The 50mm f/1.8 can be preordered: Sonystore US, Adorama.
As you see there is no preorder option I found in Europe (a part of the NEX-7 at Jessops and Computerunivers). Feel free to comment this post with links to shops accepting preorders! This will help other SAR reader to get thei NEX-7 and lenses as soon as possible!

9 months ago |Lens is very overpriced. Pics look good but it’s very easy to make a good 50mm f1.8, all the other makers’ are all quite good also.
Because of the ho-hum lens lineup, the lustre of the Nex system is starting to fade…
The Lotus Eater
9 months ago |You do realise “other makers’” 50mm primes don’t have optical stabilisation, right?
An NEX-5N / 50mm f1.8 OSS combo will be a low light monster.
Weird
9 months ago |Saw the pic. frankly…and other average lens…nothing stellar. overpriced. who dare OSS?

9 months ago |He doesn’t realize that those E-mount lenses uses some sort SSM AF..slower compared to A-mount only because of CDAF used on NEX-series cameras, but still Silent…
Overpriced? nah, you get what you pay for [OSS, SSM, metal build]
The sad part is that Sony charges you a bit more because those lenses are made to work with a short registration distance.

9 months ago |A quick look and one can see this is a 50mm lens is looking much longer than any other 50mm f1.8/f2 lens. Just like the 24mm Zeiss is longer than normal. They simply extend the length, just as if putting a Maxxum 50mm f1.7 with Alpha adapter on NEX. Nothing special about making it “work” on short registration other than building it longer than regular 50mm’s.
With NEX short registration, this 50 should be no longer than a Leica M 50mm. It’s not even that large of an f-stop to justify the size.
GH
9 months ago |With an M to NEX adapter attached, the Leica 50/1.4 Asph is almost exactly the same length and much heavier, and it doesn’t have an af motor or OSS.

Andy
9 months ago |yeah, again, that’s the 24mm that no-one talked about. the 50mm lens written about in the article and in the comments is $299. you wrote “$1000.- for that lens that is ridiculous” without mentioning which lens you were talking about.

9 months ago |The cheap 50/1.8 lenses (Nikon 1.8D, Canon, Sony A-mount) are all old design with only 6 elements. They aren’t great wide open; I’ve used the Canon 50/1.8 a lot and usually avoid f1.8.
The newer Nikon 50 1.8G is $220 and it has 7 elements. The Sony E 50/1.8 has 9 elements and stabilization for $300, so not really a rip off in comparison.
That said, I expected the Sony E 50/1.8 to be smaller/shorter than the A-mount version. I mean, I can forgive the price, but come on, don’t make it longer than the DSLR version! Also, if it was 60mm (or 90mm equiv.) instead, it would be better for portrait since 75mm equivalent is a bit short for that and a bit long for a general walk-around lens.
On the other hand, the Olympus 45/1.8 is small/light, with good IQ and the 90mm equivalent FL is more suitable for portrait. But then, it is even more expensive at $400.

9 months ago |There is a fix for that… Stop using Internet Explorer!
It is by far the worst browser on the market.
Either download Google Chrome or try out Mozilla Firefox. I use Chrome & its the best.

9 months ago |Twenty years ago we closed the family photographic studio when my dad passed away and I’ve been a part time professional photographer but a full time IT manager and network engineer and this website works just fine using Windows 7 and IE9 both 32 and 64 bit.
This was not always true as this site did have several coding issues that were corrected several months back.
Most enterprise network managers don’t allow Chrome and Firefox to be used because of issues around maintaining PCI-DSS and HIPPA and other security and auditing compliance requirements.

9 months ago |Why is the NEX7 the most pre-ordered system ?
Maybe because (a portion of) NEX shooters are techies, who are marveled by the impressive numbers of the specs sheet.
A77 potential buyers might wait for some real testing from final product, before ordering. That’s what I’m going to do.
Raghav
9 months ago |I think its because of the body & menu design. It is the best design on any NEX. And… it just looks sexy. The only problem is that the high ISO performance is unknown as of now. People are skeptical & cautious.
If the NEX7 matches the performance of the NEX5N in high ISO, it will be the best seller. I am sure that demand will outstrip supply.

have a look at: http://geizhals.at/deutschland/675234
geizhals is generally a good place to check for new products and vendors, at least for me
as geizhals shows, you can preorder the nex-7 here:
http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/sony+nex+7+body?refcampaign_id=45c48cce2e2d7fbdea1afc51c7c6ad26
as i’m in vienna right now, i saw a special pre-order offer at “foto sobotka” (http://www.sobotka.at/). if you preorder the a77 till the end of september, you get an extra battery for free (1399€ body only, 2049€ w/ 16-50)
however, i’ll wait for more reviews and a personal hands on with both, the nex-7 and a77…no pressure.

9 months ago |how can a mirrorless camera focus well with lens made for af phase sensor without a mirror?
Simon
9 months ago |50mm does only make sense for a FF camera. For potraits use is should’ve been at least 60mm for the crop sensored NEX! It also seems to be bigger than most 50mm APS-C lenses from CaNikon. Why that? Btw…for an 1.8 portrait lens coupled with great NEX sensor ISO performance OISS is not needed at all.
emopunk
9 months ago |indeed it would have been better for Sony to release a 35mm f1.8 (circa 50mm equivalent for NEXes). That’s pretty much the lens you need 90% of the times on that body.
Joe
9 months ago |I would argue that the 24 would be on the body most of the time. Sony is probably going with street shooter perspective.
Gabriel
9 months ago |What the heck ? Making such small camera with APS/C sensors and such bulky and overpriced ? Where is the SAM 35mm f1.8 with E mount ? 50mm is to long for everyday use and too short for portrait
Mike
9 months ago |What’s all the hype about the 50/1.8? Go to any local flea market, buy an M42 50/1.7 or even 50/1.4 for 5-10 Euros and order the adapter from Ebay. Learn to focus manually and you’ll be all set. Perfect picture quality, 50mm lenses have been already excellent for 50 years.

9 months ago |I personally have half a dozen manual focus 50mm lenses from f1.2 to f1.7. Would still buy an OSS, SSM autofocus E mount 50mm f1.8. I cant take good enough portraits with my 2 year old kit without autofocus and OSS.

9 months ago |I think you should really try out the new peaking function. I have no problem nailing focus of a moving object at 1.4 or even 1.2, providing good enough contrast. It’s more of anticipating the movement.
dac38
9 months ago |Ya, as if i havent. Try getting photos of a 2 yr old in a playground with a 1.4. More difficult than sports photography in my opinion.

9 months ago |The 50mm maybe be too short for portraits, but who has a prime lens mountable to NEX between 50mm and 70mm?
I hope that the focal length gap between 55-60mm for portraits will be filled be the next years G standard zoom lens for NEX.
