This is normal for pre-production units/first version. Look at the PEN series, they managed to half the focus time with the latest release of the firmware. CD-AF speed is very much influenced by the firmware. This is provided, the motor in the lenses and the lens elements are also designed for quick performance.

What settings were used? I can imagine that a setting like face recognition makes for some delay.
It’s not bad though, it looks similar to for example a Pen E-P2.

Frankly speaking, I think the speed is acceptable, as long as the firmware maybe even not the official release. Just as Olympus, the autofocus speed can probably be improved after further firmware upgrade.

Not a fair test, since the m4/3rds has an inherently greater depth of field, and therefore is not shifting its focus as much.

autofocus speed looks good for me. what i’m missing is a multiple exposure mode and color filters for b&w. and of course a zeiss 24/1.8 or something similar. these would make me sell the e-p1 with 20mm sell immediately and go for the nex5 when it’s avaliable.

Just to let you know guys he is the slower Auto-Focus system
The Camera Automatically try to auto-focus every second from it self “Auto-hunt” to make the viewfinder less blurry and close to the real focus which is a feature that many consumers like “consumers don’t like blurry screen pre focus”

It was confirmed with other auto-focus options which is available the camera is extremely fast to focus in image resource review

Doesn’t that waste the battery? I hope there’s a setting to shut that off, and save the battery strength.

I’d say not an accurate test at all.

The Sony is at F3.5. The GH1 is set to F5.6, plus has wider DOF so not as much focus shift.

The Sony is probably faster, but a fare test would be to test the Sony set at F8 and the GH1 at F4.
