How will the nex7 perform in Studio? Hopefully can i use it as mini replacement for her big ff brother.
Greatz

9 months ago |foliage looks pretty good on the JPEGS at 3200iso. I think I’m gonna love this camera.

9 months ago |But again lost of OOF pics (same as with A77), I do not understanbd this. Unless they really wanted to get only the foliage and back of heads to be sharp..
Photographer error again or are the NEX-7 and A77 so hard to use?
Alex
9 months ago |I was expecting a disaster…but WOW!
Stunning detail. The other poster is right the foliage and skin tones are fantastic – leagues better than the a700 imo.
Just preordered an a77 from Amazon using your links.
WOW!

9 months ago |You liked the NEX-7 quality and preordered the A77?

9 months ago |I can’t judge the IQ by these photos.
I suggest everyone wait for better firmware, and proper test shots.
By the way, Google Picasa can display those RAW files.

9 months ago |How would we go about editing the RAW images? Have Photoshop or LightRoom already started to support the NEX-7? (I hope so, because I’m getting both programs somewhere in the near future, as I can still get them on an educational license at the moment…)
I am eagerly awaiting this camera, and would like to see it tested with wide angle M-mount lenses such as the Zeiss ZM 18mm f/4.
The only fault I can find with the NEX-7 at the moment is that it only has one custom slot for the TriNavi interface… I hope the rest of the preset settings is somewhat useful and that non-used settings can be disabled.

9 months ago |What do you mean only has one custom slot?

9 months ago |Even if you can find software that is able to display these files, it’s not going to be optimized for them. Too early too judge.

9 months ago |I ordered A77 too, after all it has the same sensor as Nex7. These pictures look really nice. Admin: Don’t worry too much losing IQ due to the translucent mirror. It’s really minor issue with a55 and it should be even smaller issue with A77, because they have better coating now. I want really fast autofocus and in body image stabilization, and Nex7 don’t offer those.

9 months ago |thanks, finished downloading this. Can’t look at raw yet, but JPG is very ugly… pre-production firmware though.

9 months ago |Downloading @1100 kbps :p – the internet sure wants to see those jpegs fast. I am not downloading the raw cz i feel its futile with all the editing softwares in their nascent stage.I will wait for the reviews 4 that.
Slazo
9 months ago |Just finished looking at the jpegs, for what a jpeg is worth, the ISO 3200 shots looked really nice to me. Plenty of detail in teh foliage behind the girl. Also some people here are right about the missed focus, seems to have hit the bulleye on the back stage.

9 months ago |What was the photographer trying to do here?. A point and shot user could have done the simple task of point and shoot much better but occasionally when he has managed to do it right, the details are stunning @iso 1600 and 3200. Yippie !!

9 months ago |From what I heard before, they weren’t supposed to be taking photos for review etc. The guy snuck in his own SD card.
Maybe he was rushed and/or trying to be relatively covert?

9 months ago |I think it’s the latter XD
andy
9 months ago |Ok I finally downloaded them (yawn). Say, how the heck do you view the ISO from the metadata?
I think that these pictures show one thing; you need good light to take advantage of the 24MP sensor. None of these images are really pixel sharp. IMO the large file size is redundant in these situations. 946MB (raw+jpg) is lot of data for 34 images. Pixel binning would be nice.

9 months ago |what lens were these done with? Choice of glass is going to be a big deal on 24mp @ APS-C size
andy
9 months ago |Metadata says 70mm f4.5 and f5.6. So probably 55-210 or 18-200
John
9 months ago |Or, it could be 16-80cz

9 months ago |Just downloaded the photos. The image quality seems quite disappointing. ISO 1600 and 3200 images have quite strong noise reduction and look noisy..
Looks like the sensor of NEX-7 is not on the level of NEX-5N’s one. I think it is the same as in A77. The “first impressions” preview of A65 at luminous-landscape.com supports this:
“Sony’s new camera introduction on August 24, 2011 was particularly fascinating because they introduced three totally new cameras, the A77, A65 and NEX-7. Three new cameras at once is of interest enough, but what caught my attention was that all three share the same 24 Megapixel sensor, the same 2.4M pixel electronic viewfinder, the same Bionz image processing engine,…”
NEX-5N might be the king of Sony’s camera line when it comes to high-ISO performance…

9 months ago |Hey, can anyone mirror this on rapidshare or megaupload or something like that? would be very much appreciated!!
Patrick
9 months ago |Right. I shoot with a 5D mk II with Ze 35 and 50mm Makro and I am convinced I will sell them for the NEX. I downloaded Picasa (just chuck in the folder with the RAW files and wait for it to read them) It doenst seem to read the colours very well, but the detail is amazing. I can’t do a direct comparison, but they are quite close to the 5D, at all ISO up till 3200 (which I think is the maximum these guy shot them at).
I think the guy was relatively clever in focusing on the back. The woman is moving and the shutter speed of 60th is not enough to render her properly sharp (the sample of the conversion given on the link above by Iliah Borg). Maybe it was an accident, but if you see the shots (in Picasa) that are focused on the back, you will see an amazing amount of detail. Even those with ISO3200 on the EXIF. If the lens he is using is a bit under-par, then even better, that 24mm ZA is enough for me to get this camera for reportage.
Follow what I say, those jpegs are rubbish compared to the RAWs in Picasa. See it for yourself.

9 months ago |I would not worry too much about these if you are pixel peeping at ISO 3200 Sony Jpegs from a preproduction camera with 24MP on APS-C.
Try viewing at 50% (which is more than representative for a 24″ x 16″ image printed and ask your self “How many ISO 3200 jpegs will I be printing at exhibition quality 24×16?
I’ve seen some other NEX-7 samples which indicate low to mid ISO pixel sharp images will be no problem in RAW. High ISO will be fine when print size is in context.
All my large prints are at ISO 400 or less (generally ISO 100) where I expect the NEX-7 will be looking great. This should be a killer lightweight landscape and travel camera with Leica / Voigtlander / Contax glass.
I would be interested but not that concerned if the high iso samples where worse than the NEX 5N once viewed at the same print size.
If your work demands clean ultra high ISO, its called a D3s
Patrick
9 months ago |D3s is about a kg heavier. Nex 7 can be a great photojournalism tool. Most of the photographers I know from VII, Noor and Reportage by Getty Images use small size cameras and would not consider lugging around a D3anything.
