4 months ago |Lets just hope for something better than my A900
.
Better AF and better ISO handling. 24 or 36 Mpix both will do.
My dream is still for a hybrid Nex SLT camera, such that the SLT can be removed.
But if Sony wants to push SLT they need to at least match Nikon on the ISO handling.

Isn’t a testament to how awesome the a900 is when you only ask for better AF and ISO? I agree with you too, that’s all I want, just better performance in those two areas. I still love my a900 though.
Ben
4 months ago |Quite true. I had my a900 off for repairs for a month and was left with the a77, but all I could think about was getting the a900 back!

4 months ago |You can just buy a Nex with the LA-EA2 SLT adapter.
You’ll get acces to all A-mount lenses with phase detection AF.
In fact, I don’t understand why anybody would buy the A77 ??
The Nex-7 has all the same features in a smaller-lighter package, + it can also use almost every lenses ever produced, and get rid of the translucent mirror for an extra 1/2stop of light and increased sharpness.
danny
4 months ago |Why would anybody buy the A77 ? Because of the awesome AF speed for example and the beautiful images the 24MP sensor delivers.
Just the slide show effect in 8fps has to be fixed, for the rest I love it. And ISO is also good, better than A550 for sure.

A77 is great camera. but what looks wrong to me – even in such huge and expensive body mirror can not be moved up. I can understand that for small and not expensive A35, but not for A77
hanugro
4 months ago |Here is one reason why it can’t. Because the translucent mirror is not at 45 degree angle which mean it is longer than standard mirror in dSLR. Not to mention it needs frame to make it rigid and flat. There is simply not enough room for it to slide up. This can be built with bigger body though (like vertical grip built in and slide down).
Also mechanism to move up the translucent add price and weight to camera.
In 5 years however, I am sure all A-mount will go mirrorless anyway when either CDAF or on-sensor PDAF is ready (faster than now).
hanugro
4 months ago |On contrary I don’t understand why I would buy NEX when Sony themselves say it will always be inferior performance to A-mount.
dealaddict
4 months ago |Actually, the NEX + LA-EA2 is not the same as A77. I hope they are, but after buying the LA-EA2 for my NEX-3, the AF tracking is not that good. The AF on LA-EA2 I think is the same as in A65. also, as pointed out, you lose the steady shot with A mount lenses.
Trent
4 months ago |I just hope the full frames they come up with have good iso performance up to 800. I hardly ever go above 200 anyway but in the rare case it would be nice.
also i would like to see compact flash and an xqd slots.
too much to ask for?

4 months ago |I regularly use images iso 800-1000 from my a850 without issues for both print and web. I am a professional wedding and event photographer. What are you on about?
Fotografo de Bodas
4 months ago |Hi Frank. You never shoot above 1.600 iso? I do it constantly, with 24mm 2.0 and 85mm 1.4, no flash, so I need great iso.

4 months ago |are you trying to fit the LA-EA2 into the 18mm flange distance of nex???
oh, jakob think autofocu sensor is “on” the SLT mirror.

4 months ago |I´m a wedding professional. My a850 is great but sometimes I need shot at 4000 or 5000 iso, and is very compromised in this iso, poor IQ. And I need a second body, with better iso, better dynamic range, no SLT, no more that 24 mpx. In fact, i´m tented to buy a d800, but too mpx for me and too money in new lenses.
Sony, I can´t wait until january 2013 to get my second body!

A Full Frame NEX 7 would be awesome. I’d like to see both the 24MP and 36MP Full Frame sensors offered in Mirrorless cameras like the NEX 7!

4 months ago |Sony, if you can’t figure out full frame SLT yet as the technical barriers are a problem (so we have been told), Can you just maybe stick this new sensor in an A900 body give it 5 FPS, same A900 viewfinder, improved AF system, SD and XQD card slots, no AA filter, a tilting screen and that thing will kick Canon ass, the A850/A900 already does to be fair!!

We still have not had confirmation that Sony will go SLT or SLR for the next FF? 4 months ago |what about sealed lenses? those are required to match the a77 and maybe future slt FF cameras.
Frank Withers
4 months ago |just out of curiosity do you, personally, actually, need sealed lenses? Have you read the article about the a900 at the dakar rally? Have you had your sony lenses fail because of lack of sealing? I shot 40 weddings at the beach with a850 and cz2470, sal70200g, with no issues- including a drop in the sand with the 24-70 mounted. Lenses changed during windy beach. No problems.
I’m not trying to bash you, weather-sealed lenses are great and all, but I don’t see this as nearly a high of a priority as for example a new FF body.- especially when there are no apparent problems with sealing in the current lineup. These lenses can take a lot.

4 months ago |I dot really care for a mirrorless full frame, as nice as that would be there aren’t enough stabilized lenses as far as I’m concerned. I would like to see Sony make a FF significantly smaller than the A900 though, being that is one of the main advantages of SLT/EVF. Something like an A55 but full frame + extra control dial would be great or even something a65/a580 sized. Preferably E-Mount/A-Mount hybrid that uses IBIS when using A-Mount lenses and optical when using E-Mount but give us IBIS when using legacy lenses. An articulated display like a77. Make a grip available for it for those who don’t like the size. Make it modular even (best option) where you can build it up and down depending on needs. Also make the system universal so if you just want a better EVF or better AF you just buy the latest EVF module or SLT module. Add a bigger side grip with more controls or a smaller one if you can go without. That would be my dream FF – everything to everyone. Like having interchangeable lenses but interchangeable body parts. That is where this whole mirrorless/EVF thing should be going. Main body has sensor, basic mount (E-Mount) and processor in it with mounting points for all the ther options.
Frank Withers
4 months ago |with all due respect have you ever used sony’s pro-grade A glass on a body as small and shitty (yes its true) as the a55? God that sounds like a nightmare! I don’t think you could even fit your fingers around the grip with a 70-200 attached.
The ergonomics of the A900 and A77 are near perfect, making it smaller is just a terrible suggestion. Making it LIGHTER on the other hand would be great, the only problem I have with my A850,grip,zeiss is the weight. The size? PERFECT.
Matt
4 months ago |Frank, Pro does not always = Big zoom. Sorry. I use mostly smallish primes and yes I do want a smaller body than the A900 (as nice as it is and all that). I have also used some very large and heavy lenses on a NEX and found the handling to be excellent, I could actually spend more effort on supporting the lens and the body just sort of hangs on the end,
Different things for different people I guess. Thus why I would like to see a properly modular camera from Sony. I guess you got as far into my comment as ‘FF the size of a55′ and decided I was wrong – how can I be wrong when it is what I want?
John Kilpatrick
4 months ago |Do you think there will ever come a time when Sony make a camera to rival the Canon MDII? Because i’m not sure if I should make the shift ofr wait. And I don’t get why Sony aren’t competitive in the DSLR market since they’ve been industry leaders in video cameras for years. I just don’t want all my purchased lenses to go to waste.
Frank Withers
4 months ago |Honestly I’m not sure what you are on about, look at the sensor comparisons of the 5dmkii and A850/900 on DXOmark, the A900 has superior dynamic range and color reproduction. The AF in the 5dmkii is frustratingly slow and inaccurate, vs the A900 which I swear can lock onto ANYTHING (look up numerous youtube comparisons). I switched from the 5dmkii and 2470L, 70200L to A850 and 2470z, 70200G and I do not miss the dull color of the 5dmkii. Of course I also don’t think noise is everything and don’t give a flying f**k about shooting above iso 1600 so just take that into consideration. IMO and many other’s as well, the A850/A900 is a great alternative to the 5dmkii depending on your shooting style and requirements

4 months ago |Whatever happened to the actually doing rumors? Most of the posts are just news releases? Nothing wrong with SR1/SR2.

4 months ago |I really don’t understand why so many people are hopeful for a full-frame NEX camera. If the tiny flange distance already gives the APS-C NEX problems with border performance and requires large lenses, think of what would happen with a FF sensor! It’d pretty much only be useful with the LA-EA adapters and SLR glass.
Matt
4 months ago |I just wish Sony would use the SLT advantages to actually bring something innovative to market rather than bring out SLT cameras that are just like every other high end camera but with slightly worse image quality (sensor like for like – Sony do make the best sensors for now). SLT could be used to make something really unique that makes it stand out. There no longer has to be an optical path to the VF, so move it. There doesn’t have to be a mirror that is connected to said optical path, so make it removable. The only thing that has to be the same is the image sensor to lens distance and mounting, but Sony have 2 mounts for different needs, make them interchangeable. The screen on the back only needs to get it’s information from the processor, make that removable too. The buttons just need electrical connections to the CPU, make those adjustable as well. Stop making big ugly inflexible DLSR style cameras, instead make a camera that can be a big ugly DSLR style camera for those who like that sort of thing and can be completely different for those that don’t. I want a big grip able side handle option that looks like crap but handles like nothing else, then an option to have a nicely integrated hand grip, then a small compact hand grip, a large (5″+) top mounted LCD, but also a smaller flexible LCD to mount on the back. How about an XLR add on for those who do video. A left hand side hand grip with additional controls. A battery grip. A top grip. All with controls on them, but you can even leave the main grip off if need be. I don’t care if it’s ISO performance is not as good as the dinosaur models by the big two, make me something unique and flexible.
hanugro
4 months ago |Actually Sony said that it is preferable to make the EVF, LCD and sensor (and flash but that is my thinking) on the same axis. That is why the LCD is design like that in A77 and not like Canon’s sideway.
I understand some ppl prefer unconventional design and maybe that is why Sony make NEX. But they should experiment with it in low end alpha. But their unconventional grip design in A330/380 is not well accepted.
Matt
4 months ago |Exactly – if it had INTERCHANGEABLE grips, monitors, EVFs, battery grips rather than just lenses, you can CHOOSE which grip you like or EVF or lens or have a selection depending on different shoots.
