Huge! New Metabones Canon to NEX adapter with electronic aperture control!
Now that is a small news that could turn out to be very important! I know of many Canon users that are tempted to join the NEX system. Canurus (Click here) announced a super Canon C-mount to E-mount adapter that will make their choice much easier 
This isn’t just one of those cheap manual only adapters you usually found here on eBay. It has electronic aperture control! And Canon lenses with Image Stabilization will also work on your NEX! More info:
- True electronic integration of aperture diaphragm – let camera automatically choose aperture in P or S exposure modes, or dial in yourself on the camera body in A or M modes.
- Powered by camera body. No external power source required.
- Wide open button (opposite of depth-of-field preview function) makes manual focusing easy.

2 years ago |Just received the updated adapter that is supposed to work with the NEX-5n and NEX-7 — it doesn’t (at least on my NEX-5n). Doesn’t control the aperture, doesn’t provide power to IS lenses. Basically, it’s acting the same as a $20 Chinese Canon adapter but cost $400. Waiting to hear from Metabones to see what they will do.

2 years ago |It has been pointed out that lenses made for PD-AF are not a very good match for CD-AF mirrorless bodies in the AF department. Like most 4/3 lenses on micro 4/3: with the Olympus adapter they will focus… eventually…
Though having AF would be neat, of course, just for the occasion when you don’t mind waiting a bit.

Anyone used these mechanical adapters with their own iris? I’d imagine out of focus areas would look quite different to how they look natively mounted?

2 years ago |Looks like the first batch sold in less than 1 hour…The next batch in 2-3 weeks only. The adapter has an IO port which allows firmware upgrades (AF ?). As a note Metabones (the builder of adapter) make the best quality NEX adapters out there. I know people who first bought a cheap $10-20 adapter and after that bought an $100+ Metabones one (speak about simpler adapters not this one).

2 years ago |Adaptall-2s don’t have auto-aperture on camera systems with solenoid based aperture systems (or more specifically, Canon’s EF mount), they require stop-down metering.
To get an Adaptall lens to have auto-aperture on a NEX, you’d have to find a rare Minolta AF Adaptall and mount it on the LA-EA1/2.

Those adapters could transmit aperture mechanically between any body and Tamron’s lenses. Shouldn’t it be possible, then, to make adapters for the NEX that can do the same?

2 years ago |This is great news! I mean ok sure for existing Canon shooters this will be enticing to move over to NEX or should I say ‘play’ with NEX (I don’t think it’s enough to switch brands completely, sadly). But for us this will enable our EF mount stuff to work on our FS100′s and VG10′s.
I have been a little bit wary of those mechanical adapters that have an aperture between the lens and the sensor – had anyone used one of these? Do they affect image quality? Do EF lenses stay wide open when not attached to a camera or do they stop down?

Just the other day I was approached by a Canon shooter who was immensely fascinated by my NEX-5 + Zeiss 24-70 combo and he said he’d switch if there was an adapter good enough to support his Canon lenses. Too bad I didn’t get his email.

Because I already have an EF 90mm f2.8 TS-E, and no medium format lenses, I thinl I’ll go with this EF to E mount adapter. If I had Hasselblad V lenses, the Mirex would be a No-brainer

2 years ago |It was a video recently (long presentation you can find it on YouTube). There are questions about FF E-mount and the tech sais something that “we looked into it but it will not work”.Quite clear , and no “maybe” left.
So either e new mount (with no lenses) or A-mount.Also remember that if they come with a FF mirrorles (it may not be called a NEX at all), it will be after A99 and it’s sister camera (rumored) are out so this puts it more in 2014 timeframe as earliest. By then, I hope you will have quite a few more e-mount lenses (including third parties) which ALL are APS-C only.
Remember FF lenses are more expensive, and they target a much smaller market also. Not avery good perspective I think.This is why A-mount sounds more likely, and will be a “mirrorless” FF Alfa camera not a NEX.

2 years ago |The E-mount was designed to be able to cover fullframe as well. At least that’s what I’ve heard. Not saying that they’ll use the E-mount though, but more likely than using the A-mount because of the flange distance.

2 years ago |First it was a rumor not anouncement.Second if there is one (I still doubt…) it will use the A-mount for FF.If you use E-mount most likely it will crop the image to APS-C size.All current E-mount lenses are APS-C only.If ever will be one FF which can do what you want on the E-mount, in some years I’m sure they will make a new adapter which will work. Nothing is forever.

2 years ago |Ricoh is rumoured to be launching a K-mount adapter for the GXR camera later this year. If anyone would be able to fix the electronics of the K-mount, it should be Ricoh. They own Pentax now.

2 years ago |The EF 135mm f2.0L USM looks good. Not really out of proportion, and it is a great lens. MSRP is only $1,089.00, a real bargain for a lens of this quality.

The Fotodiox adapter with Iris is pretty cool for what it is, but it’s pretty much useless except for a few stops of light it can block. I would much rather invest in something like this new adapter Andrea posted! Below is the Fotodiox adapter mounted on a few canon lenses and the Nex-7 if you want to see:

2 years ago |As someone who is already migrating from Canon to NEX, this will make life a little easier. Now I can use the Small and Light Weight EF 85mm f1.8 USM, Canon best lens the EF 90mm f2.8 TS-E and the always fun EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM.
I do a lot of Table Top Products shots and have looked at the Novoflex BALPRO T/S http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/379033-REG/Novoflex_BALPRO_T_S_BALPRO_T_S_Bellows.html But $1,474.99 is a little more than I’d like to spend. Right now the money would be better spent on a second Nex 7.

2 years ago |Quality dumb adapters have a mask to keep stray light away from the sensor. Its only the cheap China adapters that don’t have a mask. On a S35 NEX camera it does not affect any of the image. Check MTF and Rayqual adopters which both have a mask. Cheap China adapters have light leak.

2 years ago |Since I don’t own EOS lenses, I’d personally still rather have a normal, manual adapter with other lenses. Being able to focus at shooting aperture gets rid of focus shift problems, and having an aperture ring on the lens allows S mode with AutoISO, which does the same thing that M mode with AutoISO would do, if it was available.
