Is the Fuji X100 using a Sony CMOS sensor?

One of the most popular cameras on the world wide web is the Fuji X100 prototype (yes it’s not on market now!). And I just read an interesting Interview on Quesabesde where Hiroshi Kawahara, Operations Manager at Fujifilm Electronic Imaging Products Division talks about the FinePix X100:
“Question: It has been said that the sensor used is similar to that seen in some Nikon SLR cameras, and therefore manufactured by Sony. Can this information be confirmed?
Answer: The sensor of the FinePixX100 is customized to match its lens. We should point out that the most important thing is not who produces the technology but the technology in itself, and in this sense Fujifilm optimizes its technologies depending on the photographic result being pursued at any given time.”
So after Nikon and Pentax now even Fuji is using Sony sensors? It would be nice if Fuji could give us something back, would love to see a NEX camera with that cool Hybrid Viewfinder!

2 years ago |what is sony plan.. are they trying to make other camera producers addicted to sony sensors. .and in a couple of years sony says “no more sensors for you.. nikon, pentax, fuji,…” and everybody has to go and buy a sony?
panfruit
2 years ago |Everyone has been using Sony-produced sensors for many years — nothign new.
alex
2 years ago |at least, this fuji, looks way better than the hidious NEX, and it is probably more usable too..

2 years ago |But it looks.. more.. ancient XD
I’m just a fan of modern-looking things (search for Acura ZDX, which a lot of people calls ugly)
Chris
2 years ago |hmm. .that really is an ugly car..
i prefer a mgb gt ; )
mike
2 years ago |shoot canon, they make their own sensors.
Rob
2 years ago |Are Canon sensors better? That might be a reason – but I see you troll these chats quite frequently, and expect no better from you.

alex
2 years ago |i use sony as well, together with all kinds of cameras, and from every brand available..nikon, canon, sony, minolta, oly, panasonic, konica, rollei, hasselblad, you name it..
old-school design seems to be worthless to the youngsters out here, but i dissagree with that..
this looks like some sort of leica-design, and from my eperiences with leica, every button is right on place, where it should be..
simple cameras with easy to access controls, makes it easier to shoot..this means more time for making your composition, instead of having to scroll through all kinds of menu´s, with your eyes OFF the viewfinder , screen or even EVF..
a good camera gets out of your way, and doesn´t stand between you and the picture, you want to make..
to me it makes sense, to others, it won´t..
the latest nex and a55/a33 doesn´t give this easy acces to me.. you can hate me for that, but i know what i need, and i even know better what i don´t need.. i don´t care about how much they throw inside a camera or not.. i make my own world, and the simpler the camera, dials and access to make changes in the set-up are, the better it gets..

2 years ago |This camera is just beautiful. If it can produce pictures half good as it looks..
Chris
2 years ago |the fuji is only that popular because of it looks.. the technology isnt any better than a nex + the missing normal pancake.
why does sony not simply repackage the nex and offer a second model for people who want a retro look.. research cost should be minimal because they just have to build another body and keep the rest.
Vlad
2 years ago |Only the looks? What about the hybrid VF? Or all of those analog dials? These are the real reason why it is so popular.
Chris
2 years ago |yes the hybrid viewfinder is nice.. but the dials is just part of the body..
like i said.. sony should simply build another body around the nex.. if they make it a little bigger than nex5 they also have the space for build in viewfinder
AVESTA
2 years ago |I agree… it’s all just packaging.
Funny how looks can fool so many people into thinking something is better.
iwaki
2 years ago |yeah right, it’s all just the packaging… pfft
afterall, you can’t tell what you don’t know
obviously the new generation of camera users can not appreciate the mechanical dials.
emopunk
2 years ago |Chris, you could be right. But this camera looks better and most probably has better ergonomics.
Chris
2 years ago |thats what i am saying.. sony could simply rebuild the body with a retro look plus all the same knobs and buttons than the fuji.
Carl
2 years ago |They should get them to make that 35/2 Fujinon in E mount.
Chris
2 years ago |It has a viewfinder, enough said. NEX is unusable to me as all the other µ4/3 options without one. If you factor in the cost of the µ4/3 cameras like the EP-2 with the EVF and panny 20mm it is the same cost.
I hate shooting from a screen, the NEX is no exception, the main reason I don’t have one. That and a fast, compact, normal lens.
the real Chris
2 years ago |yeah.. tiltscreens are for doters..
Thundercats
2 years ago |I don’t get this same old argument. Does shooting from a viewfinder or from live view make a picture come out any differently?
Chris
2 years ago |Doesn’t change the result, but shooting from a viewfinder is much easier in my opinion than awkwardly holding a camera out in front of you. Never said you had to agree though.
AVESTA
2 years ago |Keep in mind that the nex has a fold out screen that tilts up and down, so in some ways the nex CAN be better since you never have to directly have it in front of you… but in direct sunlight a viewfinder is definitely better
Myst
2 years ago |short answer…yes
for dslr users it;s easier to compose with the viewfinder and track a subject, than with live view so it makes a huge difference, but for pint and shoot shooters it’s the exact opposite, and since the nex-3/5 were made for PS users most dslr users will look elsewhere for a smal compact camera.

2 years ago |The Fuji is also supposed to deliver a better built, more rugged body compared to NEXes. What clearly falls behind is the LCD. I can’t imagine why such an expensive camera should have such an average LCD. That itself would stop me from buying it.
Vlad
2 years ago |What’s the problem with the LCD? The resolution?
santela
2 years ago |well, considered that it has a real viewfinder, the relatively low resolution of the lcd won’t be much of a problem, and 460k isn’t bad at all, it’s on par with most cameras nowadays.
My problem is the sensor. From what I heard it’s the yesteryear sensor technology that was used on the Nikon D90.
I hope they switch to the A55 sensor.
emopunk
2 years ago |Sorry to disagree with some of you but in such camera LCD is as important es EVF. It would definetively been more appropriate to install something like the one on A580, for example; that is a spectacular LCD. If you look at rear pics of the Fuji you will see that there’s lot of space wasted around the LCD. That means they wanted to save some dollars installing a cheap unit. Crappy choice, once again considering how much this camera is going to cost.
