LEA2 and LEA1 adapter reviews!
David sent me the email with the link to the video you can see here on top: “I’ve just done a thorough review of the LA-EA2 adapter. I know the adapter has been out for a while, but I don’t think anyone has done a full video review yet. The review includes AF speed, options, adapter size compared to NEX 5N and kit zoom lens, etc. I hope it’s useful to your readers. Thanks again!”
And if you want to see a review of the “older” LEA1 adapter Jason from SonyAlphaLab (Click here) did a super job testing the Sony 70-400 f/4-5.6 G SSM Lens + LA-EA1 on the Nex-5n!

The lens and adapter size would be a non issue on the large camcorders like FS100 and FS700.

2 years ago |Can’t see why , I have a large amount of alpha lenses so for me it turns the Nex7 into a A77 (which I have no intention to buy). It is true it is no longer a pocket camera but the 70-200/70-400/300F2.8 or the Zeiss lenses is not pocket size either.

2 years ago |Please help Sony Alpha Rumors people. If you have a lens with OSS, if you use it on one of the cheaper steadicam imitators, if you leave the OSS on will that make your footage even smoother? Or will it look worse? Also, if anyone from Sony sees this message, PLEASE make a 35mm 1.8 OSS lens be your next lens. And make it for $299. Thanks. And one more thing- how does OSS compare to a steadicam in terms of stabilization?

11 months ago |Responding to not using a wider aperture than f/3.5 for video; even on the SLT-A77, the only way to use a wider aperture is in modes A/M with manual focusing. F/3.5 has pretty shallow DOF, and so is rather shallow for video anyhow!

Why the delay ?

2 years ago |That’s because the full-frame body, new and updated lenses, everything many are hoping for are just rumors.
Nothing is real, nothing is true till Sony’s tells us so, officially!
This blog is full of rumors that never became true; maybe 50% of the time.

2 years ago |I’m thinking a lot about buying the LE-AE2. I have lots of great alpha mount lenses. It just feels too expensive. And I’m still trying to find another nice manual focusing pancake lens to couple to my voigtlander 35mm color-skopar

2 years ago |One of my friends has that, it owns. Its a single-coated lens, and its f/4, and it isn’t exactly close focusing – if you can live with that (easily) its hella fun to walkaround with.

Leica 24mm f/1.4?
I’m sure there’s other options, but those are the only two that come to mind.

2 years ago |THIS VIDEO IS A PERFECT DEMONSTRATION OF THE PROFOUND NEED FOR SUPERB E-MOUNT LENSES FOR THE NEX SYSTEM.
THE ADAPTER IS LARGE, HEAVY (4 OUNCES), COSTLY ($400),CLUMSY, UGLY, AND MISSES THE BRILLIANT POINT OF THE NEX SYSTEM ENTIRELY…, WHICH IS TO BE SMALL, LIGHT,NIMBLE, SLEEKLY GOOD-LOOKING…,
IT IS A COMPLETE CONTRADICTION!!!
GET ON THE STICK, SONY AND USE THE PARTNERSHIP WITH ZEISS TO ITS TRUE ADVANTAGE BY MAKING FOUR ADDITIONAL LENSES, TWO PRIMES TWO ZOOMS, OF THE QUALITY OF THE RIGHTFULLY REVERED ZEISS 24MM 1.8. THAT WILL COVER EVERYONE’S NEEDS.
WHAT CONCEIVABLE REASON IS THERE NOT TO DO THAT???

2 years ago |It’s not a contradiction if you consider using the NEX as a backup body for your SLT/DSLR.

2 years ago |If you have a full frame camera and would like to have a 24 Mpix APS-C camera to benefit from the crop factor, would you rather get an A77 or a NEX-7 plus adapter, if space and weight is an issue? I can store my NEX-7, adapter and microphone in much less space than an A77 requires. It all weighs less as well.

2 years ago |I think there is a mistake in the review. He says that peaking does not work with AF and DMF. I don’t think its the adapter that does not allow this – its the SAM lens that turns this off. I think if he were using any other lens, even if a Minolta, peaking with with AF and DMF on would work fine with the adapter. I can’t say for sure, I don’t have a NEX or adapter, however, on my a77, SAM lenses turn off peaking with DMF on, while SSM, G, and CZ are fine.
It was a great review and demonstration overall.
JonasM
2 years ago |No and Yes. No A-mount lens can use Peaking and DMF in AF mode with the LA-EA2. That’s fact. But one might blame the lens instead of the adapter. It IS a drawback however as just like David I usually have peaking turned on along with DMF in AF and with the adapter this great combination of settings is lost.

2 years ago |Artichoke,
Sony has a history of doing things just that way!
When the a900 was released with a lens or two or three and then next to nothing to speak of that supported the camera except the Zeiss 24/f2.0
Many of the people like me that purchased a top line Sony full-frame thought, no EXPECTED that Sony would release many Zeiss lenses to replace the old Minolta catalog, It’s now 2012 and the few of us left are still waiting.
So now it the NEX camera, a wonderfully compact, powerful and full of promise platform to make images, and the rumor is that Sony always planned on this being supported largely through third-party lens manufactures like Sigma.
To answer your question; Sony is an electronics company and it makes sensors and components for others like Nikon and maybe year later for its own products like alpha…
What else do you need to know about the reasons Sonys does what it does?
Matt
2 years ago |So far as I can tell they are only missing a 35 and 50mm Zeiss. What do you mean ‘only the 24mm Zeiss to support that model’? So the 16-35, 24-70, 85 and 135 don’t ‘support’ the A900? Nor I suppose do any of the G series? Really have no idea where you are coming from?
Steve
2 years ago |Matt,
I actually own the Zeiss, 85/f1.4, 135/f1.8, 24-70/f2.8 and the 16-35/2.8
Since I had the wider areas covered I didn’t purchase the 24/f2.0 prime Zeiss.
My point is, I purchased most them in 2006 – 2008 before I replaced my 7 with two a850’s.
I need to start replacing some of these lenses and I question if I want to invests more money in Sony and buy optics, although wonderful, are no longer state-of-the-art and nearly the same price as Canon or Nikon’s latest and greatest professional lenses that have better sealing’s for dust and moisture.
The current costs for top-end professional three lens zoom set is about $7,000.00 USD and a few primes it comes to 10K easy.
Rumor has it that Sony is going to start replacing its rebranded Minolta line-up and plans a big announcement soon, but that just a rumor.
I almost moved in 2009 but didn’t because of my investment in Minolta/Sony/Zeiss and the fact that I thought the a850/a900 Zeiss combo to be the BEST choice.
I also, think that EVF being the future so I’m hopeful not to need to replace my 85/f1.4 or my damaged 24-70/f2.8 till after Sony shows its new FF stuff and lens roadmap!
That’s whare I’m coming from, 15k replacement cost investment and two wonderful six year old lenses (and lenses without built-in motors and weather sealing) in need of replacement.

2 years ago |Steve,
Thanks for the benefit of your wisdom. Third party support would be fine, if it happened. But, since they have the agreement with Zeiss, why not exploit it? In effect it’s a “structured” version of third party support.
But, as you said, “What else do you need to know…, etc.”
Frankly, I’m hoping that someone at SONY will read the more intelligent of the reply comments and take them to heart. It is, after all, an instant feedback of user preferences and dreams.

2 years ago |I’m having problems on my LA-EA2 on the NEX-7. If you lightly jiggle/shift the lens while attach to the LA-EA2 it switches to manual mode. You have to unattach the lens then reattach the lens for it to go back in AF. I first noticed this with the Sigma 50mm F/1.4. I tested it on my Zeiss 16-35mm and Sony G 70-200mm and it did it continuously. It does not seem to have this problem with the 16-105mm just the heavier lenses.

2 years ago |It could be that the connector pins are recessed a bit too much so when a heavy lens is placed in front of it, the flex could be just enough for the lens to lose contact with te adapter. Try bring it in for a warranty exchange.
