People complain that Sony don’t listen to reviewers or the customer yet almost every review I have ever read has criticized Sony for using a non-standard hot show, so, now you have what you have been asking for.
The outrageous price is still lower than both the competition at RRP. FF cameras aren’t cheap.

9 months ago |@wth – Wifi on the a99? Methinks you’re better off with your iPhone as the jpegs on a FF may be too big to send your cat photos to your Facebook page. 9 months ago |Hi andrea,
Quoting from steve huff’s comment in his blog
“BTW, some sites are posting a carousel shot saying it is the 1st shot from the RX1..but the only problem is that is a shot from the RX100, NOT the RX1. Sony screwed up in their media package with that one and told me there are no sample shots as of yet with the RX1 so if you see that carousel shot it was taken with an RX100 not RX1!”

9 months ago |I don’t know…. But it seemed important enough for SONY to make it a critical feature on all of their enthusiast cameras…

9 months ago |Admin,
Are you sure Nex-6 has touch screen enabled? Pls double confirm!

Dave Lively
9 months ago |I think you are mistaken about the NEX-6 having a touchscreen.
DPR mentions the lack of a touchscreen a few times during their preview and they had the camera in their hands. They thought it was a major omission. In the last page of the preview at http://www.dpreview.com/previews/sony-alpha-nex-6/6 they write “We do find some questionable decisions, the most obvious being the lack of a touchscreen in a camera that so heavily touts camera apps and Wi-Fi smartphone connectivity”.
Ashwaniman
9 months ago |No touchscreen, no screen focus point selection. What is the cost of a touch screen ? Big mistake from Sony. Or maybe they will keep that for the next version announced within a year or so from now !
Nai Yan
9 months ago |However from http://www.thephoblographer.com/2012/09/12/first-impressions-sony-nex-6/
It does have a touchscreen … also from From SONY Nex-6 official website (http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666488065#features), it is featured,
“Advanced Control Dial
Mode control dial and Quick Navi assure quick an intuitive operation comparable to DSLR cameras Control dial, Fn (function) button and touch screen (including touch shutter function) combine to greatly facilitate operation and speed getting the shot.”
If there are 2 versions of Nex-6 with different firmware? One is with touch screen enabled, one is not…
Admin, could you help confirm this from our sources?
Thanks.

from: http://www.thephoblographer.com/2012/09/12/first-impressions-sony-nex-6/
Second correction: Sony says this is a mistake. It does not have a touch shutter. We apologize for the mistake.
But from the discussion on button: ChrisGampat said : I did test the camera and I swore there was one. In fact I have the slide saying there was one too.
It was a mistake.
Maybe the displayed NEX-6 yesterday did has touchscreen but not put it on the selling NEX-6 in the future? Sony shouldnt do this!!

C
9 months ago |Looks to me like the a99 is almost identical to the 5d3
Same resolution, same fps (that stupid crop mode thing doesn’t count), and I guess the a99 will have better ISO/dynamic range than Canon.
There are some nice features, but honestly I’m a bit underwhelmed. There’s nothing really new or exciting about the a99 imo. Only 6fps is disappointing when we were all expecting 10fps – it means that there is really no reason to get the a99 compared to the 5d3 since it isn’t significantly faster. With this super 102pt AF system, Sony really could have blown up the market with 10fps
passer-by
9 months ago |Agree… doesn’t look like a flagship camera. Doesn’t even use Sony XQD card. There will be another FF DSLT that will probably coming in 2013… maybe.
Plastic
9 months ago |You want exciting? Buy a hooker. This is only a camera dude.
Aalpha100
9 months ago |First we were expecting 12fps then 10 (but on the bright side 14 bit raw). Now 6 fps so only half of first rumors..
But maybe more important: 102 AF points only work with some lenses. So we have to wait to see if the AF is any good with other glas.
saiman
9 months ago |Also… the AF points are grouped together in the center area only and are not spread out throughout the frame… as if it’s covering only the APSC field of view. It makes me wonder if A77′s 19-point AF system is used directly on A99 without any modification.
I still cannot believe Sony would make such a silly move by putting all the AF points in the center area, and leaving the left and right thirds of the frame almost empty of any AF point. With such stupid arrangement, I doubt A99 can correctly track a moving object across its frame.
Here’s the distribution of the AF points:
http://4.static.img-dpreview.com/previews/sony-alpha-slt-a99/images/screens/AF-Range.jpg?v=1574
Dan
9 months ago |I’d be shocked if any current SLT camera has better iso performance than the 5D3/D800. Different technology, different strengths and weaknesses. You cannot perform better in low light when you inherently let in less light before you even put a lens on the body. At higher ISO settings you are already at a disadvantage.
The RX1 will be a better low light performer than the A99.
Patrick
9 months ago |From DPReview:
“If it lives up to the promise (and a lot of that will depend on how fast the autofocus works, and how dependable it is in low light), the RX1 could easily become a classic, used by photojournalists and other working pros who need a small, flexible camera with excellent image quality. The image quality samples we’ve seen have been confidence inspiring, offering the low-light performance and shallow depth-of-field that only really come from having a fast lens in front of huge sensor.”
Now you can all shut it! you unfaithful bastards!

9 months ago |I’m not quite sure where all this WiFi griping is coming from. Never had a reason to use it myself, and when I shoot big events (Olympics, Paralympics, Premiere League, etc) the first rule they always stress at the press briefings is “No WiFi, No Flash!” This applies to everybody, like AP, UPI, Getty, etc. I was “this close” to selling every bit of my Sony kit after shooting a 1DX and a D4 in London last week that the service counters lent out to me, but then saw the imminent release info for the a99. I am pretty sure that this will suit all of my professional needs at least 99% of the time, and I won’t be spending $7,000 on a new body. There do seem to be a few trolls about today, and you can’t always please all of the people all of the time. Cheers!

9 months ago |I have been with Minolta and Sony for 30 years now. I always felt this company had the most innovative products, best quality, and best value over Nikon and Cannon. No WiFi, and 6FPS is a big disappointment for the initial offering. I was really excited and willing to kick out 3k for this camera. Now I just don’t know. If the image quality for high ISO is excellent, I may consider it. Right now, I am very disappointed.

Clearly Nikon doesn’t have a clue when they included WiFi connectivity in their Cheap-O Toy of a D4 Camera.

What is your malfunction anyway. You are all over this site like a bad plague. Is that how you enjoy spending your time – deriding others as fools?
I’m sorry the A99 does not meet your needs and that you feel the need to demean anyone who plans on purchasing one. Not all of us feel the need to defend our brand, some of us just choose a tool and make good use of it.
I have a cabinet of working tools that include film and digital bodies from many different manufacturers and eras that produce different types of images to suit the project or my mood. And Canon has been my digital DSLR platform for 12 years – a great one at that. Guess what? I sold all my Canon bodies and L glass because I saw the benefits of Sony’s direction, not because Canon or Nikon suck, but because I want to explore new tools. And amazingly, even with what you must think is a “lowly” A900, my work is equal to what I produced with Canon. I can only look forward to what the A99 will help me produce.
So in summary, please, step away from the computer, take a look in the mirror and repeat – ” I will stop being a troll, no one likes a troll, and my photography is suffering”

Sony: We are discontinuing the A900
Photographers: WHAT!!! But that is our only Fullframe Camera in the Sony System
Sony: Don’t worry it will be replaced with the A99
Photographers: But most of the features on the A99 is targeted at Videographers
Sony: No it has more focus points and it takes slightly better pictures
Photographers: But other camera companies has achieved the same level of accuracy using other technologies without the need of a SLT and their quality is much better.
Sony: Yes, but it is much better for video…
Photographers: But you said it wasn’t targeted at Videographers
Sony: We added a standard hotshoe!
Photographers: But that is for your new Flash with LED lights for Video
Sony: It has a propriety data connection on the hot shoe
Photographers: But that is for your external Microphone for Video!!!
Sony: We have added a new function button on the front of the camera with a silent operation.
Photographers: Since when do we need a silent wheel for Photography?
Sony: It takes 14bit images
Photographers: So does all the competitors…
Sony: … It is more dust resistant than the A77
Photographers: Really?
Sony: We added lock button on the mode Dial
Photographers: WOW!
Sony: So, $2800 for a lock on the Mode Dial and a bit more weather proofing.
Photographers: SOLD!
