The value of the A77 and Nex-7 increased upon release if I recall correctly. Supply and demand. There was no supply, so there was more perceived demand and the resale value shot through the roof.

I’ll buy one at $3000 USD if we’re talking about 12-15 FPS and a 30-50 frame buffer. IQ has to be unmatched.

I don’t mind SteadyShot, the biggest thing for me above the A77 is when I turn SS off when I am in a tripod, either I need to set it up for remote control or I need to set a 10 second timer because the shutter button is hard to not shake the setup. My [...]

I think everyone is thinking of this camera in terms of the 5d3 and D800. What if it is the competitor to the 1dx and d4? $2800 sounds like a bargain compared to those two. I’m thinking the 24MP A95 and the 36MP A85.

We’ll see A17, A27, A47 before we’ll see anything Full Frame. Come to think of it, how cool would a camera with just M/S/A/Auto + ISO 100-1600 with maybe 4 total function buttons, 4 dial options, no bells or whistles at the $299 price point be? No video, good IQ, decent FPS… I’d get one.

“D3″ is taken by Nikon or is too close to “3D” I guess.
I am surprised they used the letter F. Can’t really use G, H3 would imply it is a gas guzzler. F is better than nothing I guess… -
Joe commented on the blog post Next Nikon Full Frame may not use Sony sensors anymore… 2 weeks, 6 days ago · View
I have a feeling Sony’s contract with Nikon has language which would make public confirmation impossible. I could be wrong, but if I were a Cola company, like RC or something like that, and I was supplying Pepsi with the main ingredient for Pepsi, I am fairly certain Pepsi would want to keep that quiet.

Wow, Stewe, Sony should contract you as their lens architect and then invest a billion dollars in the labor to make these. For the most part I agree. I would add a tilt-shift and some good Macro lenses to the mix. I’d love to see a 85mm f/2 T/4 STF as well. I’d love to [...]

Joe commented on the blog post The new $12.999 500mm lens in Stock
3 weeks, 5 days ago · ViewWhat do most professional photographers net after equipment? I find it hard to believe, even with a tax deduction $13000 is a drop in the bucket. The average professional makes $43000 a year. I assume the average pro uses a 5D2 or a D700 and has a good $5000 in lenses. Think about what the [...]

3 weeks, 6 days ago · ViewI haven’t heard many people complain about A77 firmware in a bit. Any word on 1.06 or 2.0? I am sure they’ll need to update the A77 for the lens profiles of these mystery lenses.

3 weeks, 6 days ago · ViewIf you’re certain the new lenses will be cheaper, that implies you have an idea what they will be. Of course, there are maybe 10 lenses on the planet more expensive than the bazooka barrel, so you never know. I’m hoping there are more than two lenses on the roadmap.

I have a feeling the new 24MP FF will be on par with the 1DX and D4, not the 5d3 and the D800. The 36MP FF will be the 5d3 and D800 competitor. Thinking out loud about a FF SLT, I wonder if the “light loss” is central to the sensor or distributed throughout OR [...]

2 Lenses? You mean one APS-C lens (16-50) and one $13000 full-frame bazooka barrel. I would say zero lenses when it comes to full-frame. Anyone complaining about a penny over a $2000 price point isn’t going to buy the 500mm lens anyway. So realistically it is one cheap 85mm lens and a 24mm Zeiss in [...]

Joe commented on the blog post (SR4) Sony wants to price the A99 as low as possible. It’s a Full Frame A77
1 month ago · ViewThis is the best, most logical comment I have seen here in a while and I commend zstan for saying something I’ve been trying to say for a while, but doing it elegantly. The sensor is not your eyes = fact. Framed correctly, the EVF is a better representation of the final picture than any [...]

1 month ago · ViewOpen-source capable? Wow what a concept! Instead of waiting for Sony to release tethering support, someone in the community could write their own. Instead of post-processing RAW in Lightroom, you could process it in body. Of course, that assumes photographers and computer programmers can play nice. Sony would also have to develop an API and [...]

1 month ago · ViewAfter the initial D800/5D3 swarm, you’ll see the “legacy” D700 or 5D2 fly off shelves when they hit $2000 new on a regular basis. A brand new $2000 A99 would do well, I agree. I’d buy two at that price point.
