At least you can change the function of the record button on an Olympus cam.

“it’s better for their business to piss the shit out of their customers” Yup. Just look at the what they did with the PS3. They roll out a few firmwares with legitimate enhancements but a lot of the time, the new firmwares only contained anti-piracy code and masked them as “bug fixes” or something. Very [...]

Noone is asking to change the (physical) design. A simple firmware to allow changing the function of video record button is all that is needed. Even a cheap, 2 year old E-PL1 lets you do this, so why Sony’s top NEX cam can’t?

“They should include a free Sony nex3 with each lens” as lens caps.

Pablo, you need to relax. The contact for making sensors for Nikon is not a small deal. The profit would probably be higher than marketing it themselves in a new Sony FF body; much less overhead to sell it to Nikon. Not only that, the Nikon FF user base is significantly larger than the Sony [...]

  • And a 35mm is equivalent to 52mm (basically normal) on APS-C. Sony has a 35/1.8 for alpha and I’ve been wishing they make one for NEX.

  • Wierd, I’ve seen that 55-210mm e in every Sony store I’ve been to in the Vancouver area (Canada). Actually, I’ve seen/tried all NEX lenses except for the “mythical” 50/1.8 e. Hopefully, Sony will get more lenses (and NEX-7) to the stores.

Maybe your logic is right, but having only two good lenses (24/1.8 and 50/1.8) isn’t good for a system. Let’s see… The 18-55 is not as good (sharp) as other kit lens on other systems. The macro would’ve been better if was longer instead of being 30mm; your subject has to be about 1″ away [...]

    And it doesn’t matter.

The 16-50/2.8 is a no brainier if you have an alpha body. Iq is good, cheaper/smaller/lighter than Nikon/Canon/Pentax equivalent, and slightly wider than Nikon/Canon (though shorter on the tele end). I wish there would be a similar one for mirrorless.

I tried one in a local Sony store (Vancouver), and it is one amazing camera that you need to hold to fully appreciate. If only it had IBIS, it would have been perfect! Sony, you have it on the Alpha DSLRs, why not on the NEX!? Now, the lenses have to be bigger/pricier to have [...]

  • ronnbot commented on the blog post Lots of Sony 50mm for NEX reviews!   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Actually, I agree w/ Eckert for the most part. I mean, I’ve had the cheap 50/1.8 lenses on my APS-C DSLR, not because I particularly like the 75mm FoV (80mm on Canon), but mostly they’re cheap. It isn’t wide enough like a normal/standard lens or long enough for portraits (to get good compression). It’s a [...]

  • ronnbot commented on the blog post HOT! New Sony NEX lens roadmap!   3 months, 1 week ago · View

You think that sharp, see Pany 20/1.7: http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/1295/cat/all Both wide open, the 20mm is sharper. Stop the 20mm down a bit to f/2, and it’s incredibly sharp; the 24mm would have to be at f/2.8-4 to match. Overall, IQ is close. Even the FoV is not far off: 20mm is equivalent to 40mm on FF [...]

  • ronnbot commented on the blog post Sony beats Canon (again). Fuji gets priced (higher price than NEX-7)   3 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Though I agree that the NEX lens selection is limited, I agree with others that the G1X is indeed comparable to some m4/3 and NEX, especially when you factor cost and size. Actually, the NEX-C3/5N and a bunch of m4/3 cams are cheaper, and with pancakes, are smaller/lighter than the G1X. How is the G1X [...]

“Panasonic is still two years behind Canon”

Well not really… the GH1 came out 2 years ago but has a higher DXO score than GX1 and G1X, and is very close to the 60D even though the 60D’s sensor is much bigger.

  • ronnbot commented on the blog post Sony beats Canon (again). Fuji gets priced (higher price than NEX-7)   3 months, 3 weeks ago · View

    LOL, why don’t you?

If you weren’t a hypocrite, you would know that a typical APS-C sensor (1.5x crop) is 40% larger (area wise) than the G1X’s sensor, and the G1X’s sensor is only 16% larger than a typical m4/3 sensor. So, it is in fact barely bigger than a m4/3.

  • ronnbot commented on the blog post Zeiss ZM 18mm f/4.0 on NEX cameras   3 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Well, the kit zoom is 18/3.5 at the wide end. I know, can’t compare the (optical or build) quality of that to this but I have a hard time justifying this, especially on APS-C. This ZM is neither bright nor small nor cheap. Too bad there isn’t something like the Pany 14/2.5 for the NEX [...]

  • ronnbot commented on the blog post Detailed Sony sales analysis for the japanese market in 2011.   3 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Price difference is not that much but I guess the most consumers didn’t see much added value for the additional cost. Also, it could be other things like lack of small/quality lenses, lack of hotshoe, minimal physical controls, and etc. that turned away potential NEX buyers to m43. Oh, and the awesome NEX-7 was technically [...]

  • ronnbot commented on the blog post First Rokinon 8mm for NEX hands-on.   3 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Saw that review of the m43 version a while back and it is fairly consistent with what others have found: basically, it is good especially considering the price.  Thus, I don’t really have much confidence in this review of the NEX version. Bokeh doesn’t really matter and the blue tint is probably not the lens’s [...]

BTW it won’t fit in my pocket and it doesn’t have a pancake lens?

Does a NEX-7 + 24/1.8? Oh forgot, there is actually a NEX pancake.

  • ronnbot commented on the blog post Sony NEX-7 vs A900 JPEG and RAW comparison!   3 months, 3 weeks ago · View

I guess you only ever use full auto mode because what you see on the finder will obviously affect how you change the cameras exposure settings. As others have said, EVF will show the affects of exposure setting changes on the fly: ISO, WB, metering mode, exposure compensation and so on. Although OVF can’t do [...]
