Mirrorless camera comparison on Serious Compacts. NEX wins!
Serious Compacts tested the ISO performance of all current mirrorless cameras. The NEX-5 prooved to have the best noise performance with 1 stop advantage over the rest of the world. Let’s hope Sony can do even better with the new Pellix cameras!

2 years ago |Well – if we’re on positive reviews – This month Polish magazine fotografia & aparaty cyfrowe reviewed mirrorless cameras in sets with their “kit” lenses (16mm pancake in case of NEX).
NEX won with 77% score, DMC-G2 scored 72%, rest was below 70%.
Winning categories for NEX were: Body, Size, Performance, Picture quality, High ISO, Profitability.
G2 won in Viewfinder and Functionality.
NX10 futile says about won only in one category – Handling. Though being second in picture quality, and 2nd, far behind NEX (3/5 vs 4.5/5), in High ISO.
The worse mirrorless camera is… Olympus EP-2.
Funny, cause after hearing all these enjoyment from Olympus stuff of how their micro 4/3 cameras were successful, and how they plan to invest all their strength in this market, they’ve ended up being the worst producer of all on the market.
Poor people who bought Olympus.

2 years ago |There’s nothing wrong with the Olympus mirrorless offerings, no reason to feel sympathy for their owners. The E-P2 is just an older camera now facing newer and better rivals. They’ll have new and more competitive cameras soon. Plus, don’t forget they have in-body shake reduction. No one else can claim that, and that is a huge bonus to me. Besides, the E-P2 is really just an EP-1.5. That camera did nothing but correct a few mistakes they made on their first model.
I love the IQ of the Sony NEX, but as of right now if I had to choose I’d still go with m4/3′s because they have more of a complete system. NEX will get there, but it may be 2 years before they have a decent lens selection (m4/3′s is still too weak even with the big head start). Plus, I need to know I can control wireless strobes via an RF trigger with a NEX camera. As of right now it’s impossible. Which makes their two current cameras worthless to me.

2 years ago |New York Times had the same conclusion 3 months ago:”The hybrid camera market is still young. Micro Four Thirds is still a baby standard (only two companies), Samsung still has just one camera. Sony’s hybrid is generally superior to both.” See http://nyti.ms/9p6pQs

Shoot raw, use Noise Ninja, LR3, everything but the kitchen sink. Give an honest attempt on every files at obtaining best results, produce jpegs and then compare.
Could be a tougher test, but personally, I post process anyways.
If it reveals that one system applies lots of in-body noise reduction and that there is no way to turn it off, its not a winner to me…

It doesn’t. Sony has very pleasing looking noise and NR is barely noticable
