{?>Sony A700 } ?> successor, about the next Fullframe camera and the Sony A850
/A900
firmware update. I am working on it. We got some small rumors but we need confirmations before to post it on SonyAlphaRumors. What I can tell you now is:
1) I didn’t receive any rumor that would lead me to believe that the Sony A700 successor is going to be announced at Photokina. But the good news is that it seems that Sony is working hard to deliver the camera as soon as possible, they are definitely feeling the pressure made by the Alpha Folks!
2) We received some rumors from unknown sources about the Sony A950. But I do not expect any new fullframe camera in 2010. I am one of those guys who is dreaming a A950 with ExmorHD sensor ![]()
3) Sony is still struggling with the Sony A850/A900 firmware update. Let’s hope they will manage it to solve the programming issues!
Reminder: Keep in mind that all those infos I am writing here are “rumors” There is nothing official, and no info came from Sony itself.

2 years ago |If there isn’t an A7xx announcement at Photokina then that will be a final nail in the coffin for some users. They’ll jump to canikon.
Atkins
2 years ago |Agreed. It’s getting ridiculously long. Even an A700 with just AF micro adjustment and Intelligent preview would’ve been something!
Rob
2 years ago |Would probably be good if at Photokina that Sony announced the release date for the A7XX and offered a special trade-in deal for current A700 users, or at least something to keep them interested.

What makes it so definite, I wonder? Even the voting in this post shows clearly enought WHAT is in demand. And Sony are meanwhile busy granting us with the a290 and items like that.
If Sony do feel the pressure, they must be very good at resisting it.

2 years ago |Thanks a lot for adressing the issue of the A7xx. So many users are in the ‘need to know’.
SonyA700
2 years ago |It does make you wonder why companies do this. They have a huge Dynax/Maxxum/Alpha user base waiting for news on the A7xx and would do themselves no harm by releasing some information on announcement dates. Even if they could not release absolute specifics about the specification, some official word on what to expect would go a long way to appeasing their customers and maybe even make some think twice about moving to canikon.

2 years ago |Sony did say this year they would announce a successor, wonder if they are backtracking (per rumor).
Either way, many have already left to other brands. This has been going on since about late 2007, nothing new here. Just the final remaining hopefulls are now going to leave.
Sony should have felt the pressure a LONG time ago. Even having done a gap upgrade camera like Nikon did with the D300S would have shown some loyalty to the enthusiasts.
I think they could give a crap less about enthusiasts if they can make money and marketshare with crappy DSLRs and Nex models, less work for them to do that.
They have never understood the enthusiast market because they dont have the right people employed that are in the right places to show that they do. Take a look sometime at the employees high up at Sony and past experience they had, its available on the net.
Then, leave to Nikon or Canon or Pentax, or an established company that has shown long term support and commitment to DSLR users.

2 years ago |At least give us some info of A950 by Photokina
5D MKII price looks pretty good right now…
If Sony releases some info on A950 by Photokina I’ll wait,
if they don’t 5DMKII it is…
Futile
2 years ago |I’m with Rushmore on that one. Tired of the Wait. I’ve had xmas 2010 in my diary as jumpship day for about 2 years now, really never thought I’d have to stick to it, but Sony have just managed to continue to disapoint.
My last hope is that they will tease a mockup of the next FF at photokina, but if that (at the least) doesn’t happen I’ve lost all faith.
Will probably sell up and re-evaluate what I want/need… Always wanted a Mamiya 7II
Sony
2 years ago |If you really are jumping ship, be sure and give good deals on your glass.
The A700 has been removed from the Sony site for some time. Maybe the new replacement is the same size, since the vertical grip for the A700 is still listed in the accessories section. I’m sticking with my A700 and the NEX-5 that I pre-ordered. Yes, I will take advantage of the video feature, since I do not own a camcorder.
For those of you in doubt, remember the A7XX announced from earlier this year? It is coming.
Keep switching brands and formats people. It is good to see that money is flowing again, after all the news on the bad economy. Whooooo!

2 years ago |Good thing about glass is it retains its value (especially good glass)
Yeah I’m semi-hopefull that what was saw with the Top LCD and AVCHD marked on it was the A7xx successor, but we’ll wait and see. Another APS-C body might keep me occupied as long as they have listened to our feature requests / bug fixes, and this isn’t a stop-gap model.
Ideally though I want a new Flagship FF. Its what I’ve longed for since my Minolta 7 Film. The A900 is worthy of most of what I need, but it just too hard to spend that ammount of money on old Tech.
Holding my breath.
On a side note, the NEX line up seem to be getting some good attention, I have a feeling they will sell well. But I can’t help but fell sony missed an oportunity to cash in on those of us who shoot manaul/semi manual. A lot of us have wanted a G9/10/11 type camera to go long with our DSLRs, this is a nice alternative except it seems less useful because of the UI and Lack on Controls (things like Video)… Eve my G10 allows me to Lock Exposure in video and alter Aperture and Shutter. Knowing its a software difference is enough to drive me insane. What were they thinking.
If anything they should have made the NEX3 P&S and the NEX5 more experienced photographer aimed.
Anyways, with any luck enough attention on these NEXs will bring the Hacker crew to give us some firmware hacks to customise all our wants!

2 years ago |These comments don’t look very good at all!
I too feel like getting a Canon 7d at the moment….. Selling my lenses and having to re-stock my macro lenses in another brand, this disapoints me….
Futile I agree with you about the NEX 3/5 especially a talented hacker
I really liked the Minolta legacy! Maybe i’ll go buy a Minolta 9000 that has had the update for SSM!
with a motordrive. That would please me if I had a limitless supply of good film and a good quality film scanner! At least I get to keep my lenses! Ever tried to find one for sale with the SSM update? lol!
A7xx I hear you!
I will however wait untill Photokina and a few trusted reviewers comments before I venture to my local camera shop to hold, feel and press the shutter enough times to demand a discount!
If sony say that the release will be after xmas 2010, I am off faster than a stolen Mitsi evo10!

2 years ago |The Norwegian Sony site confirms that an A700 follow-up is under development.
They do not however call it A7xx somthing however A750 would be my guess.

(Google makes a good translation to the text so I didn’t translate it myselv.)
We expand the DSLR range for all
DSLR-series, Sony continues to grow. Watch out for more new and exciting models that combine outstanding image quality with powerful, user-friendly features.

* Video recording in AVCHD format
* Among the new lenses are Distagon ® T * 24 mm f / 2, G 500 mm f / 4

2 years ago |Any rumors or speculation how many megapixels a new 9xx will have? I would hope we’d be looking at a 32 – 35 megapixel chip, with HDR, twilight, and higher ISO capabilities. I am less concerned about video capture and want a higher quality still camera as I make fairly large prints.
I do know several people who have video capable dslrs, and find that they rarely shoot videos. Is video that important?

2 years ago |At this point, Sony is going to have to really pull out all the stops to get me to buy the next DSLR that they put out. The line of crap that they have produced lately, while putting the die hard pro and semi-pro segment on the back burners, is just deplorable. I would be almost ashamed now to show up in any public place with a SONY slung over my shoulder. Maybe, just maybe, if they were to produce a full frame 12 -18 mp dslr with MAXXUM on the front, in place of SONY, then I might get over my temper tantrum and buy it. But it would also have to have an external PC terminal to hook up studio lights, yes, a wire. But we all know that isn’t going to happen, so here’s to sniffing chemicals again, or moving on to Nikon or Canon. Sony, you’re so so so stupid…..
Ben
2 years ago |@DCHB: I feel the same way.
Owning an aging KM 7D I have no idea what to replace it with from the current line-up. Maybe the A850 but that’s almost 2000+ Euros with no more than a spare battery. Anything else is either discontinued (a700) or has sub-lego build quality.
So for now I’m holding my breath every time I switch on the 7D.
Holding my breath for sony to come up with anything decent, that’s an other matter.

2 years ago |Just give me the Exmor sensor, live view of some sort and a nice big viewfinder like the 850 and I’d be happy.
I really don’t want to give up my glass. I’m also not adding any Sony glass until the update the higher end camera. Really want the 70 to 300 G but I’m waiting. Also like a 100 macro.
Come on Sony get us something this summer.

2 years ago |I feel pain. I’m from Dyxum.com and we’re all doing the same thing.
I, however, have already sold off my a700 and am testing as we speak the Canon 7D. It is amazing and if Sony can’t offer something soon that can
compete with the Canon 7D, I’m selling off all of my Sony glass and
going with Canon.
I hate the idea, but like most of you I’m tired of substandard equipment
and the fact that they can’t take care of their noise problem is
completely unacceptable. I luckily have the Canon 7D until the end
of September, so I’ll be able to see what, if anything Photokina
offers up.
I love my Sony/Minolta glass and have heavily invested in it,
but I’m not going to settle for a junk camera. Sony is slitting their
DSLR throats by not “leaking” information on an expert/pro cropped
sensor DSLR.
Their NEX line of cameras is sad and if they had actually put some effort
into competing with Canon and Nikon for quality it would be a different story.
I never thought I’d switch, but I do pro nature photography and loved the
cropped sensor benefits and Sony has dropped the ball. You can believe
the tests on the Canon eos 7D. It blows everything else out of the water
and is worth every penny that Canon is asking, I just wish they had the
range of lenses that the Sony/Minolta legacy offers.
They have absolutely nothing to compete with the 70-300G range lens
and I love that lens. Sadly, Sony has great glass, even the 16-105mm
and plastic fantastic 55-200mm lens beats their equivalent.
Plus, the Sony lenses are less expensive and I’m talking about the
70-400mm.
The only reason that I’m hanging on is the glass, but after September
I’ll know whether Sony has nailed their coffin shut on the expert/pro
line cropped DSLRs. Even if they offered a great full frame such as
the Nikon D300s, which uses a Sony sensor by the way. I can still
use my 70-300g and my 35-70 macro.
Their silence is not a good marketing strategy, but in the past, as with the
Sony a700 they did a leak in August. We’ll see if they pull that card
again.

2 years ago |I am quite interested to see people comtemplating switching to Canon due to the inactivity of Sony at the high end with their upgrades. I switched from Canon to Sony after spending loads of money on a Canon 10D and realising my Minolta lens were just as good as what Canon had to offer with no digital body. So now I have an a700 and I am thinking of getting an a900 for wedding photography. With these new rumors of an replacement a700 I think I will hold off getting a 2nd a700 and the a900 as I would like “video feature” in my next body before going full frame. I still love my Dynax 7 and with Minolta 20mm/28-70G/ 50mm 3.5/100 sf 2.8/70-210 beercan & Sigma 100-300 F4 I will not be going back to Canon even if the 5DmkII body is awesome. Body is one thing but you have to have the equivelent lenses to get the best out of the body.
Decent glass is more important than a digital body what has a 3-4yr shelf life at max. IMHO.
Please Sony give us some dates regarding the a700 replacement so the die hard Minolta users
can no longer grumble and be satisfied.

2 years ago |I hope SONY is feeling some pressure. A lot in fact. They are farting around giving the market place lots of stuff for the soccer Moms, but seemingly ignoring the groans and screams from those of us who are looking to upgrade from the KM 7D’s and a700 dSLR’s. A MESSAGE TO SONY! While we appreciate those out there that wish to have video, and live view, and all of those types of bells & whistles, there is a HUGE number of us who just want a FF dSLR with a modest number of MP’s, say 12 – 16, and a PC terminal to plug in studio lighting. Maybe go a little retro and throw in a threaded shutter button to accommodate a cable release as well. Some of us still use tripods….remember those SONY? WE DO NOT NEED 24 – 30 MP’S!!! WE HAVE A WHOLE SHELF FULL OF MINOLTA LENSES ALSO! Just give us a rugged FF dSLR without all of the junk. A lot of us still like to do photography the old way! Call it -a00007 if you want to. So what! Quit farting around FGS! We know that SONY is capable of amazing things technically. Nikon is aware of it! CANON is aware of it! Our request is amazingly simple, because we are SIMPLE MINDED PHOTOGRAPHERS, not sophisticated Soccer Moms, LOL! HURRY BEFORE WE ABANDON SHIP!!
