New (and cheap) NEX hots shoe adapter spotted on eBay?
As you know recently NEXpro (Click here) released the “world’s first Hot shoe designed for SONY NEX-5 and SONY NEX-5n” It costs around $80. A SAR reader spotted an even cheaper chinese Hot Shoe adapter on eBay (Click here). As usual be careful with these ebay listenings. let me know if you tried that before. If it works we would save almost $50!

Well, what if my day is broken?
I might get one to try with my NEX-3. If so, I’ve got loads of slightly old canon flashes I could try it out with.

12 months ago |be carefull with the voltage at the hot shoe, old flashes used to have a rather high voltage there that could destroy the camera. Should not be over 10V.

12 months ago |Is it at-all cool to use every discussion to complain about other discussions? At the minimum, it is VASTLY off-topic.
You have done it TWICE here already.

12 months ago |The problem with the Nex is that even with red eye reduction switched off, it still flashes twice with each shot. You want your external flash to go off on the second camera flash. On the JJC website (http://www.jjcphotography.com.au/catedetail.aspx?bid=84&cid=1788&sid=109&pid=565) they do not mention solving this problem.

12 months ago |so do most/all DSLR’s, it part of how flash control is being implemented.

12 months ago |lol adding a big flash on top, that defeated the design purpose of NEX5n.

12 months ago |So would it be better to have a flash mounted only on a “suitcase Alpha” because otherways there is an imbalance of size? Some people are really not able see beyond the end of their nose. Oh dear and it is also forbidden to mount a 500mm 1/4.5 M42 lens with an adapter to the NEX-7 because the NEX-7 is too small. And even worse do not trigger a studio flash system with a Nex-7 as it is faaaaaaar to small; only the Alphas are allowed to do this. You know what? As long as I get my pictures I intended be it with a Panasonic, a Sony or a Canon (no matter what theri size is) I do not care too much about such stupid people!

12 months ago |You may mount whatever you wish on your Nex. The design obviously had a different intended use.
Alpha Mark
12 months ago |I didn’t say its forbidden to mount any thing, you can do what ever you want on top of your NEX camera. I just found the nex is great for travel and I wouldn’t carry a big flash around. If I want proper flash, I would use my A77 instead. Big flash on small camera is same as fitting a truck tyre on a bycicle. No brain people would do that.

12 months ago |This may have been more appealing with native Sony/Minolta shoe… then show display photo with the small FL20AM flash. Seems more realistic that would be the flash one would carry in pocket to assist NEX location lighting.
At $80, I would have expected to see a PC socket on this adapter.

Edit: Oh I see it’s on the bay for $30. That’s better. And seems to work with Nikon TTL flash. Now that’s a real accomplishment!

12 months ago |Way off-topic but for my honeymoon (7 September) I’d like to buy the NEX-F5 in combination with the 16-50mm G pancake Zoom.
Is there a chance of this combo being in stores (so not announced or available for preordering but really in stock) in Belgium in time or will I have to settle with the Nex-5N with the 18-55mm kit lens?
What price range would you estimate for the 16-50mm G pancake zoom?
€200-€400; €400-€600, €600-€1000? >€600 would certainly be over budget for me.
Thanks!

12 months ago |Well I like the idea of putting a radio trigger on. But I don’t understand why it’s not native Sony/Minolta shoe.

12 months ago |its quite obvious with all those pinouts that it was designed for something more advanced than a hotshoe. like a evf. or multiport. or pocketholecutter.

12 months ago |I was going to sell my 5n for an xpro1/e-m5 (for their hotshoe) in order to use my Cactus V5s with off-cam strobes. I might have to give this a try since I love Sony’s IQ. Needless to say this is a much better option than investing another $2k-2.5k in a new system. The only complaint is the lack of quality lenses (sub $1k lol)

12 months ago |I think we all agree that the lack of lenses is a problem with Sony, But to say the problem is too few lenses below $1,000 is hard to understand. I just looked at B&H and found 17 E-Mont lenses and only one above $1,000 the Sony/Zeiss at $1,098 USD.
In my opinion the issues is not enough high-quality native lenses for the mount.

12 months ago |Okay, nice offer, much more reasonable priced than that one before, but I’m waiting for a Hot Shoe Adapter with Flash Sync & Mic sockets plus an own circuit for not destroying my NEX with high voltage from older Flashes, thanx…
quoll
12 months ago |Yes, exercise caution with flash hot shoe adapters. I have a $5 adapter from eBay for my A65. It was wired with reverse polarity which I fixed with a soldering iron. No harm done, other than some time wasting, but it might have been a different story with a flash with higher trigger voltage.
chris
12 months ago |I bought one, going to use it with wireless triggers as a full size flash would be a little unwieldy on a Nex.
FMJ
12 months ago |so i wouldn’t expect any circuit problem if i use a wireless flash trigger? like RF-602 or Catcus?
