New battery grip for the NEX-7? NEX-7 in Stock in Canada and soon in UK (both body and kit version!!!).
For the (worldwide!) first time the NEX-7 with black 18-55mm kit lens is in Stock at Sony Canada (Click here). And also the body only is in Stock at Sony Canada (Click here). And in Europe both NEX-7 versions will be available within 10 days at Jessops UK (Click here). And in USA you can get a 300 mail in rebate on Epson printer when pre ordering the NEX-7 body at Adorama (Click here).
I just got a news saying that the Taiwanese company Ownuser (Click here) will soon announce a new battery grip for the NEX-7! It is a modular design that would also allow the use of LA-EA2 without obstruction. The same company already made battery grips for SLT and NEX cameras:

2 years ago |Would the grip allow for shooting vertically? i.e. a new button on the grip.
Vivek
2 years ago |Yup!
JonasM
2 years ago |I doubt it.
A real grip should allow dual batteries as well as shutter and exposure control, but I guess this is just a “handle”.
Vivek
2 years ago |The design sketches I got from the manufacturers while attempting to buy a NEX-5 grip to use on my NEX-7 shows two pieces. The grip on its own has a dual battery slot plus the vertical shutter release. A spacer that can be attached between the camera and the grip would allow the use of a LA-EA2 without any obstructions. I am getting one when it is available.
George
2 years ago |Any idea on whether the sketches show if the design will fit the NEX-7 design somewhat? Unlike the NEX-3/5 one…
Shutter release on it is good too.
David
2 years ago |Buy compact camera
Attach bulky grip with two batteries
Attach LA-EA2 to allow phase detection alpha mount
Why didn’t you just get an a77 if you intended to do that?
BlackLegSanji
2 years ago |Because the combo would still be smaller and weigh less than a similar A77 combo?
Because you can make the camera small when you want to?

2 years ago |Jessops have been claiming 10 days forever, they aren’t reliable from my experience. That said Sony UK told me end of Jan for UK stock, so I reckon next week onwards might not be far off.
Paul
2 years ago |You are right… Jessops always have the “Usually available within 10 days..” quote on the site if they do not know when they will get an item in. In a weeks time I would expect it to still be “Usually available in 10 days…”
Hope I am wrong though for all of you waiting for it (I already have mine and it is great!)

2 years ago |grip for nex-5 is uber ugly and dont allow to shoot vertically http://www.ownuser.com.tw/mig_snx5.html
Thom
2 years ago |+1 they better not think that they can sell that ugly Sh*t to put on my beautiful Nex 7!
tobiasNEX7n
2 years ago |agree, it is UGLY – still considering it for balance and longer battery life when using the LA EA2
Anonymous
2 years ago |I hope it’s not anywhere near as ugly as the Ownuser grip for the NEX-5.

2 years ago |is sony nex 7 available in Singapore
JonasM
2 years ago |I was there recently and they hardly had any new cameras: no A65, no A77 and no NEX-7.
Vivek
2 years ago |@ George
As I mentioned, yes, fits correctly. I am buying one when it is available. How it looks in reality and whether it would work for me- I do not know. I only have the sketches with the dimensions and not the actual product.
George
2 years ago |@Vivek lol I meant fit the design as in the aesthetic/looks department.
Oh well, I can only hope it will :p

2 years ago |+1 that almost sounds like a Lego camera..

2 years ago |agree. lego camera
that’s the beauty of it
SonyA77
2 years ago |and it’ll only cost you hundreds more than the dSLR would…
BlackLegSanji
2 years ago |Only true if you always use your NEX in that combo.

Once you’ve paid for it, you’ve paid for it…duh!

2 years ago |Agreed. Totally stupid.
Buy a tiny camera and attach two bulky extensions to it.. genius

2 years ago |Anyone know how to buy the camera at sony canada? i live outside the canada area unfortunately and when i proceed to checkout, i’ve to create an account but on the info i can only put canadian destinations and cities!! Anyone know if after the ”fake” registration i can change the shipping destination?
Thanks.
Adi
2 years ago |Sony Canada ships only in Canada. You need a Canadian address for this.A lot of US stores ship in US only , not even to Canada, so norhing new here.
Rick W
2 years ago |would not buy one of these grips! Manufacturers/Sellers are too dumb to even put up a YouTube clip to show the product & its use!
Vivek
2 years ago |Genius here. I can’t wrap all my fingers around the NEX-7, as it is now.
Perhaps, I should consider all the itsy bitsy zoom lenses that go with the NEX?
Hello World
2 years ago |I have a NEX 5N. and I prordered the NEX7. Unfortunately i had to cancel it. The reason is, I don’t want to pay that much of $$$ for a “Pro” camera that can’t do appropriate auto bracketing. I want to deep dive into HDR and NEX can’t give me that.(i know you can do this one step a time, but that’s just not practical in lots of situations).
I am thinking of getting a Nikon D5100.
I am not sure why Sony is not allowing more options for auto bracketing!!

2 years ago |The Jessops rumour isn’t sound – they told me it’s going to be some point in February when the NEX-7 is delivered. They said Sony is being silent with them and not promising any dates but that being one of the largest photographic retailers in the UK that they would be receiving a large shipment when they finally come. If that’s true or not – you decide. Sounds like bluster to me.

2 years ago |Is there anyway that I can order it through the Sony Canada and have it shipped to US?
Mark
2 years ago |unfortunately is impossible, is just for those who live in canada…
Steve
2 years ago |Has anyone who placed preorders with sony canada actually RECEIVED their nex-7?
Clyde
2 years ago |I don’t see vertical release for the NEX 5 or 7. It looks like just a battery pack. Are you all sure the NEX has the contacts needed to ensure vertical shutter connection through the battery port? If it was available, then why isn’t there a Sony version? I’m not convinced it’s really designed to have a vertical release contact points like the Alphas are.

2 years ago |Delivery date for sony centres in the uk is still showing 23rd January, but the manager of my store said that they would only receive around 4 or 5 of the 18-55 lens kits and he already has 10 preorders. Luckily I’m in first place.

2 years ago |Just spoke with Sony about my Nex-7 (US) order. They said all online stores including, Sony-Canada will not ship the nex-7 until March 2, even if their site says otherwise.
DP
2 years ago |Seems odd that Sony Canada would suddenly have stock (it’s still showing as in stock too).
I placed an order earlier today and it’s showing an estimated shipping date of 1/17/12, so we’ll see in a couple days.

2 years ago |Kk…That better not be true…ordered mine from Sony Canada today…shipping date shows as 01/17/12. I am paying for express 1-2 business day shipping. I would be one unhappy camper if it doesn’t show up this week! Sony wouldn’t be that stupid….I hope.
tom
2 years ago |Or would you be a little silly for doing that baring in mind everything that people are reporting here….
kk
2 years ago |Just reporting what Sony told me. To be honest, I was pretty PO’d that Sony-Canada was all-of-a-sudden shipping the nex-7 kits on 1/17/12 when I ordered my kit a month ago. Whatevs.
DP & kr,
let’s us know when you get your shipments from Sony-Canada, curious.
Thx

2 years ago |Ok, I’ll let you know what happens! Now at least I’m prepared for disappointment!

2 years ago |Turns out I’m silly! Should have known better….Tom you were right I was wrong…;-P Sony said it was a error on their website and that they will be shipping my order middle of February.

2 years ago |Possible bad news, just contacted my Sony store in Montreal Canada and they told me that yesterday status was an error.
No Cameras are available right now, but Sony is always confused so who knows, I guess we will now in a couple of days…
kk
2 years ago |Yep, My shipping status within my account on Sony has said “Nex-7 Shipping 12/19/11″ since I ordered it on 12/19/11. Good stuff.
Adi
2 years ago |Sony is allways confused, depends who you ask… It was the same when they start shipping body only.
I called this morning at 9 am asking about the status of my order which did not change since October. I was told that the product is in stock and they are trying to ship the orders in the next two days and the status should change today or tommorow (it did not yet). I read that others who ordered yesterday got their card charged in full , at least 3 cases.(Sony Canada does not charge the card if the product is not in stock).Sony online and Sony stores have quite different allocation schedule, many times the stores will get stock one or two months after is available online.
I guess we need to wait for a day or two and see.

2 years ago |Sony has terrible inter-company communication problems. I called to order an A77 Body Only but was told that there was only a slight chance that the Jan 17/12 ship date would happen. I wanted the camera for a trip leaving Feb 2nd so I decided not to order one. A week or so later, the estimated ship date was the same so for fun I called again. This guy was very confident that a shipment would go out on time so I ordered one. I checked in yesterday, Jan 15 and they showed in stock so I thought great! They are going to ship. I called and the guy checked the system and said they show none in the warehouse and that the website was probably preprogrammed to show stock based on the estimated ship date of the 17th. He said that I should wait another few weeks and stock should be in. Does anyone at Sony communicate through the levels of command?

2 years ago |Does anyone know if the NEX5 grip fits the NEX 5N? I agree the grip is ugly but I use the NEXs for image quality, not camera style. I would actually prefer the NEX to be a tad bigger to give me a better chance of not accidentally changing settings due to too little space to place my fingers. And I mean bigger than NE7′ but smaller than a small DSLR. So I will try one of these if it fits the 5N.
