New NEX-7 Palm Grip and new NEX-7 review.

At JimBuchananSpace you can find the pictures and description of the new NEX-7 Palm Grip. Smart Idea!
Chris Townsend posted his personal NEX-7 review: “Is the Sony NEX 7 the best camera for backpacking and hiking? I don’t know. It must be one of the best though, given the low weight and bulk and high image quality. It’s definitely a camera for photographers who want the best results and who are likely to make large prints or have images published.”

Sony NEX-7 price check at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay. Zeiss 24mm in Stock status check at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay.
A weird thing is that Amazon says the Zeiss lens has still not been released…

10 months ago |Congrats Jim for a well thought out grip extension plate. Looks well made and functional. We need more of this innovative thinking for mirrorless cameras.

I’d buy one in a heartbeat…

10 months ago |My fat hands and I have been desperate for a baseplate/grip for my nex7 since I got it. I have been following Jim’s progress on this grip and was really excited when you showed off the first 2 prototypes, but was immediately turned off when I saw this final production version. I really dont like the curved grip area. I can see why he decided to make it this way (assuming for comfort over style), but I find that it looks strange, like the camera is sitting on top of a hover craft or donut cushion. The rest of the grip is very well thought out (albeit very specific to his own needs). And if it werent for the bubble, I would have bought it weeks ago.

10 months ago |A little functional but could be taller. Too close in height to the garitz cases, which is 10x more pretty.
A shame this grip is not flush designed to all the contours of the nex design. Still better design than those fragile plastic vertical frankenstein ones. But could be more aesthetically designed

10 months ago |Yeah, it’s actually butt-ugly, to be more specific. However, it shows that some thought has gone behind it and the price is fair. Anyway, I don’t require my hardware to be beautiful, so if I had a Nex7 I would probably order one.

10 months ago |Come onnnn, sonny! How can you put a so First World War tank design on a so ‘kawai’ stuff like the Nex Seven? It’s just a CRIME!

10 months ago |Now if one of these were made to fit the manfrotto RC2 how cool would that be, surely the RC2 is more accessible than the Swiss fitting for this style of camera.

10 months ago |FYI received mine and used it yesterday. It fits like a glove and is very well made, and is quite lightweight. Given that you have to use a hex wrench to attach it, I’ll probably just leave it on my camera all the time which is fine by me.
It is nice to have a big section to grab and the Arca Swiss mount section feels good in the hand. I may have to try this out with my Peak Design Capture clip.
