New NEX lens firmware update. And new Sigma 35mm f/1.4 samples.

Sigma:
Sigma (Click here) just posted a set of image samples taken with the new Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens. The image samples have been taken on the Sigma SD1 camera but as you know the lens comes with A-mount too. Don’t know what you think but I think this lens delivers a great performance! Consider also that it costs $600 less than the Sony 35mm f/1.4 lens (here at Amazon). And this lens is now available for preorder at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (click here).
NEX lenses:
Sony China (translation here) just posted posted the info about new firmware version 02 for the SEL1855 / SEL18200 / SEL55210 / SEL24F18Z NEX lenses. It’s a firmware upgrade for the NEX-5R or NEX-6 only! It enables the phase difference AF using the pixel function “Fast hybrid AF”.

7 months ago |Apologies for the silly question, but what exactly do these firmware updates do?
I have the nex 5N with 18-55 and sel50f18 but the updates are only for the 5R?

7 months ago |I’m glad to see this firmware upgrade coming because my Sony 18-200, which is an excellent lens on the 5n, is not as sharp on the 6, esp. at the long end when trying to close-focus. I wonder, though, if after this upgrade it won’t be as good on the 5n anymore.

7 months ago |Interesting. I have the ∑50/1.4 and the ∑70/2.8 macro, as well as the Samyang 8mm fisheye. I have had zero problems with any of my third party lenses. The ∑50 might be my “most often used” lens.
Maybe I am just lucky? I have certainly read other posts of bad experiences with Sigma and others. All of my lenses were purchased this year, so I wonder if Sigma QC has improved.

7 months ago |Its SD1 (maybe SD1M), which is super-demanding 15 mpix APS-C sensor. Issue is that its APS-C so for ppl using A99 or A900/850 its bit less useful. But obviously Sigma wont use another manufacturer FF camera to test own lens.
Even tho test on D800 would be nice..

7 months ago |As a rule, I’ve been staying away from third-party lenses for the A-Mount
Ten years ago I tried to save money and quickly learned that you often get what you pay for and returned one and sold the other.
Seeing what is happening with Sony and how little has been invested by Sony in maintaining a competitive full-frame catalog since 2006 I may have little choice but to try Sigma again.
I own 12 Minolta/Sony/Sony-Zeiss lenses and the only Sony lenses I have ever purchased and returned was the Sony 35mm.
I still have hope (fading hope) that Sony will expand its ZA lenses with a new 35/f1.4 soon after the 50mm ships this spring

Sad to see that Sony does not release Firmware updates for other lenses, e.g. my beloved 50/1.8
