New RX1 image samples! And is the innovation of the year according to CEA.

Consumer Electronics Association kicked off the countdown to CES 2013 with the announcement of the Best of Innovations Design and Engineering Award winners in New York City (via Cnet).
Our reader Andrej (Danke!) spotted new RX1 image samples posted by the Japanese website Itmedia (translation here). You cna find ISO 100, ISO 1250 images and basic bokeh test. Another Sony RX1 hands-on has been posted by the Vietnamese website Tinhte.
Shipment is estimated for December 6th in Japan according to Shamikon and December 14th in US according to BHphoto. It will ship in early November according to Sonystores in Europe. A bit weird that Sony France makes you pay 100 Euro more than other Sonystores (like Sony Germany).
The RX1 can be pre ordered at Amazon, Adorama, BHphoto, Wex UK ,Wex Germany, Sonystore DE-UK-FR-IT-ES-NL-SE-FI-CH and more links at Alphacameradeals.

7 months ago |Do I see a titlable screen on this RX1? o_O
Sean Lancaster
7 months ago |Yes you do. And to get it you merely need to also tilt the RX1. ;~)
Santiago
7 months ago |The screen looks somewhat divided from the body… What was shown on Photokina was a prototype… are we sure this isn’t tiltable?
El Carnicero
7 months ago |Having tested a production sample… The screen is NOT tiltable.
AF is fast, even in low light. Image quality is stunning.

7 months ago |Don’t use translation to see photos. This camera may be very specialized but it is capable of capturing some gorgeous images. I may have to wait for this one but I am not discounting the possibility of owning this camera. This is a look of things to come with mirrorless cameras. It should have had a built in view finder.

7 months ago |Danke? Does that mean that Andrea is actually from Germany and in that case is probably a girl, since Andrea is a girl’s name in German (no offense, that’s how it is)?
Andrej
7 months ago |Danke means I am a German reader at sonyalpharumors. That’s all, I think.
Maurizio

7 months ago |Explain to me why I would want to spend almost $3k for a camera that I can’t swap the glass on? Sony would have been better off to put a lense mount on the front rather than that fixed glass.

7 months ago |What if it ticks all the right boxes for those of us who shoot a lot of 35mm focal length? And those of us who anyway carry a pair of cameras, and don’t need them both to have interchangeable lenses?
Tiny, solid, full-frame dust-free sensor, Zeiss lens with beautiful rendering, silent shutter, customizable, and focus-peaking to boot. Besides an interchangeable system would have to be significantly bigger, and take more time to bring to market.
Every product is about the right tradeoffs, and will not appeal to the same people.
If there is anything to really pick on, it’s that the lens requires distortion correction in software.
doug
7 months ago |All it lacks is an interchangeable lens mount. Give me that and I’ll give you my money.
Andrej
7 months ago |Between lens and sensor are just 2mm!!! How in the world do you want make this interchangeable?
I am now selling my whole equipment to buy this great cam. What do I need mor for stills, street or food photography?
This cam is design for special areas where it can get best out! The price is ok when you look that the 35mm summicron leica or distagon zeiss cost 1600€.
I can’t wait to get full reviews!
Vivek
7 months ago |I don’t want the lens. Just the sensor with a shutter, EVF and a NEX mount. I will worry about what to hang on the lens. I will even pay up to ~1500 Euros for it (an useful cam with a mount)!
Daemonius
7 months ago |Price is only “almost ok”. Since its one trick pony. Sure similar lens cost a fortune, not mentioning 24 mpix FF cam. But you can get another lens..
calxn
7 months ago |That’s really great. I am going to pick one up… one day, when used model go for under $1k.
Daemonius
7 months ago |Its evolution, not innovation. Fixed lens FF cams existed ages ago. Now they are just electronic and thats about that. Frankly there wasnt much inovation for quite a long time. Maybe Fuji X-Trans can count as innovation. Otherwise I dont remember anything interesting, everything else is more or less evolution, nothing really new.
Ah yea and Lytro..
Vlad
7 months ago |Not again. Of course, it’s innovation. If only because of it’s size.
MC
7 months ago |+1, it is evolution but not innovation. It recalls my memory of Contax T series with 35mm f/2.8 Carl Zeiss lens. RX1 is just a digital version of the old day P&S and lens is even not collapsible. Of course, you can gain a lot of advance functions such as movie, DRO, wide range of ISO, etc. If Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm dare to, they can make one like this too.
Max
7 months ago |Film cameras did not “evolve” into digital any more than a mechanical watch evolved into a G-Shock, or a horse “evolved” into a car.
The RX1 is more versatile and has more features than any film camera in history.
By a long long way its the smallest camera with that size of sensor it’s INNOVATION
Vlad
7 months ago |Why would you compare it with a film camera? It’s light years different. Do you see any other digital FF camera with that size? Or that particular lens design? Which actually should be counted as an invention. And how come evolution and innovation suddenly became mutually exclusive?
Benneth
7 months ago |Dear SONY, please make another version featuring interchangeable lens. I will put everything I have on ebay for funding this one.

7 months ago |I pre-ordered my Sony RX1 from Kitamura online store (here http://shop.kitamura.jp) and just received today the following email message from them:
この度は「カメラのキタムラネットショップ」をご利用いただき誠にありがとうございます。
ご注文いただきました商品につきまして、当店にてお渡しの準備が整いました。
Which confirms my order is now available for pick-up!!!
I am picking mine up for 223,200 yen which is cheaper than Sony Japan online store. Unfortunately im not quite in Japan yet, and the store are aware of this already, so I will arrive in Japan to pick up my new baby on 25/11 and spend the next 6 weeks on holidays.

7 months ago |I’m like Kerry. I already got my camera a few hours ago. I think the whole Japan shipped yesterday and shops available today. There’re so many functions (too many really) so it will take time to get used to. Fortunately, it has 4 buttons for customised functions. The Sonnar f2 is mind blowing. I have the 1.8/24 on the Nex and it’s no way near it. The rumoured slow auto-focus is not exactly true unless you compared it to the fastest of all. Certainly much faster than Fuji x-e (I owned it incidentally) . When electronic sound is switched off, there’s literally no sound, not even the shutter. No noticeable shutter lag. It did not come with a separate charger (charging is thru cable connected to the camera) which is quite a pain (well, you can the separately of course). The lens hood is stylish but if attached, you cannot use a C-PL. Eager to try out after battery charged.
