New Sigma lens, NEX-6 superkits deals.
Sigma lens:
Sigma launched a series of new rebates on their A-mount lenses at BHphoto (Click here). The same deal is advertised on Amazon Gold Box page too (Click here). But for some weird reason their link doesn’t seem to work!
NEX-6 superkit deals:
There is a super “Ultimate Bundle” deal for $919 at Beachcamera (official Sony reseller) and BuyDig (via eBay).
A57 beats the rest:
Curious but the “old” A57 is selling better than the new A58 accoridng to the Amazon ranking (Click here).

3 months ago |I watched it. That guy so did not wanna be there. And they got super quiet whenever comparing a57 and a58. There was pretty much zero reference to the questions on SAR. They said they were going to address them, but never did. Kind of disappointed. They skipped all the controversial questions. He never once mentioned a question he had read through and wanted to answer. That show really did need to be longer. Maybe I just didn’t get the point of it, but it mostly wasn’t anything we didn’t already know. *shrugs*
Joe
3 months ago |cameradiner is a joke, why did he say they won’t address rumors yet still advertises on SAR to promote his site wtf
jciv
3 months ago |He said that the 58 is the entry level camera. Unless it was a slip, that explains the downgrade from 58 to 57. It actually belongs in the 3x series but maybe they are discontinuing the 3x series so they can differentiate the 5x, 6x, and 7x more.

3 months ago |Thanks ! I just watched it and it is really disappointed ! Nothing really new, and no answer to our question !!
Where is my Nex 7 firmware update for the last new lenses … :’-(

3 months ago |I agree, nothing new was learned or answered. The show was just a promotional hour. Talk about soft ball questions.

Joe
3 months ago |well we already known the F5/F55 will be shown, the 4k camcorder shown at CES is probably a NX5U replacement (considering it looks the same), maybe even a FS100 replacement coming.

3 months ago |Wow, A58 is at #8333 in the bestsellers rank in camera and photo. A57 is at 433, and is #41 in the top 100 for digital slrs. That’s gotta hurt. I guess people are voting with their wallets, but it could be just too soon, and people don’t realize it’s there yet. I like the look of it for the cost. Also, I don’t want the regular LCD viewfinder on the A57. Side by side with the A65 at the camera shop,it was night and day. It’s just no good for seeing what you’re actually getting, the blacks are all washed out.
I still like the A65,but noise is an issue. I hate using flash, plain and simple. If I can get the shot without, it’s so much better. Doesn’t the auto ISO cap at 1600? I don’t know what to do, and I need a camera.
Stan
3 months ago |Yes, the Auto ISO goes from 100-1600 on all Sony DSLRs up to A65. A77 has a customizable auto iso range. I highly recommend for you to learn how to use bounce and/or diffuse flash. The pictures that you get without a pro grade flash don’t even compare to what you can do with one. Yes, built in flash is a complete joke, I agree on that. I bought myself a Nissin Di866 MkII and couldn’t be happier. My only complaint is that it turns only 90 degrees to the left. Other than that its awesome.
Sometimes a little bit extra of low noise at high ISO helps, but trust me, If you have to use a flash at ISO800, you will have to use it at ISO1200, which is what NEX cameras are at and D3100, D5100 and D7000 from Nikon can do. Canon is at 800 as well. Just look at 7D…
My point being, unless there is a gain of like 1.5-2 stops for APSc(wishful thinking), where low noise ISO is at 3200, a point which not even full frame sensors are capable of(D600 is close with its FF sensor), you will not gain anything in terms of needing or not needing to use a flash.
Sythrix
3 months ago |Yeah, I do need to learn how to use it. That’s another thing that has me confused about the A58. Is it a standard hotshoe or not? They made it sound like it was still proprietary. The last thing I want is something even more rarefied than the current shoe.
Stan
3 months ago |From what I can tell, its a standard ISO shoe. Just like Canon and Nikon, it has it’s own firing customizations, but you can mount as an example, a canon flash on it. The only thing is, just like for every other brand, it will fire at full power unless it is a flash designed for a Sony camera. If you mount a Canon flash on a Nikon, you will have the same issue of it firing at full power.
At this point Sony F20M and Sony F60M are compatible, which were released when A99 was released. Some 3rd party manufacturers might have support as well already, like Nissin. I know these guys released new firmware shortly after A99 release. F43AM and F58AM might get their respective F43M and F58M versions with new shoe. Haven’t seen any rumors on that though.
anon
3 months ago |You can set flash power output in manual mode. I seldom need more than the minimum power, 1/16 of the full power.
Simon T
3 months ago |Nope the new multi interface shoe is proprietary as it is the only shoe to have front connectors (not 3.4 connectors around the sync port in the middle) and whilst standard hot shoe stuff fits it’s won’t fit properly as those front contacts prevent pushing them home properly.
As far as stills shooter are concerned it’s of no use at all v the i-iso hot shoe.
Sythrix
3 months ago |This sounds an awful lot like a damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenario. So I still don’t know which I should get. I’m tired of waiting for new models. Need a camera now. Thank you guys for all your replies and insight.

3 months ago |There are dozens of 3rd party accessories for older iISO… flash options, radio slaves both dumb and smart, with full ttl and HSS (Phottix Odin and Pixel King). Just when Sony flash is lacking nothing, and gains vast 3rd party support… they kill it dead with a new shoe. They ruined the flash system in order to provide a microphone… which should have just plugged into the side since it requires a bracket anyway.
Just search Dyxum… Here’s the latest problem with F60M foot falling off.
http://www.dyxum.com/DFORUM/hvlf60m-broken-hotshoe-lock_topic96257.html
Others, like me, have iISO systems built, which require adapter for new shoe. But the adapter doesn’t have locking pins, so it’s a loose fit that threatens stability and raises balance point uncomfortably high… just like the old adapters to iISO. The new shoe, for some reason, causes a considerable delay in wireless flash. Look for Gary Friedman video on Wireless flash delay to compare new to old. Can’t shoot kids, fashion, sports with that kind of delay. But luckily, the radio slaves above seem to solve the problem.
Nissan flash isn’t supporting Sony on their newest pro units. No sign of any 3rd party support for anything. Why would they? Sony just screwed their R&D efforts to make compatible with iISO. It’s just a joke what Sony’s done to the flash system. A very bad joke… because still, all the ignorant reviewers claim the reason for change was because nothing fit iISO… That’s a LIE. Fact is, nothing fits new shoe… Folks are even reporting problems with standard old one pin Pocket Wizard slaves not fitting correctly because of the front pins blocking full insertion.
Just browse Dyxum lighting forum for real user reports.

Nissing supports A99
http://www.nissindigital.com/2012/12/compatibility-chart-updated.html
Stan
3 months ago |Oh crap, sorry, just noticed that Nissin is only firmware compatible, but not mount.
I guess now its time to look at A77 or think about switching to a different system. I will not use an adapter even if I’m paid to do it… I hate adapters!
So its A77 or the upcoming 70D for me. I hate the thought of selling my gear cheap
Sythrix
3 months ago |With this new shoe, what do you think the future will bring? Will we continue to see new iISO products? Or at least continued manufacturing of existing ones? Again I’m up in the air on this. The A65 is a nice camera, but as I get more into photography, I don’t want to be re buying everything. Or worse, simply have nothing available to buy when I decide I need it. I’m not a pro, so it’s hard to plan it out.
Stan
3 months ago |iISO is going away, there’s no question about it. You will see 3rd party stuff for a bit, but R&D is now split between old and new mounts. I’d say you will see iISO maybe for another year or two at most. Or until there’s suddenly a boom in demand for ISO mount. But CTPhotographX is right, Sony just killed a 3rd party market and it will take a little while for it to recover. Maybe a few years if all things go well for Sony.
CTPhotographX.com
3 months ago |I also said “newest pro units”… meaning the MG8000 Extreme High Heat Resistance. Only for CaNikon mount. No iISO or MIS shoe. Were I the CEO of Nissin, or any other flash, radio slave company, I’d be completely pissed that R&D to develop for iISO just flushed down the toilet. Wouldn’t be jumping at the gun to remake anew for MIS.
This really sucks because that MG8000 Extreme is an awesome flash, unlike any other, solving a real problem for speedlight strobist work. Look at my web site and see how much I personally use that sort of thing.
The promise of the MIS is a lie, based upon MISinformation about iISO. Sony didn’t do this for their users. They did it for themselves. Technical Masturbation. It almost made me change systems… but instead I decided to stick with beloved a900/a700 and get back to work with kit I really enjoy using iISO vast system of compatible components that have 25 years of getting kinks worked out. Not in the mood to change systems and figure the foibles of competitor offerings.
Sony could go a long way to making this right by simply providing an iISO adapter that has locking pins. Preferably something that looks more stylized to the camera design, rather than an ergonomic trainwreck of a cheap square sitting atop a beautifully curved camera.
BTW… Those with iISO radio slaves need to use adapters to fit F60M, making the adapter issue exponentially worse than ever before in the past. And with those adapters, the flash is raised just high enough that they no longer fit into the softboxes they invested in. Sony just KILLED their users legacy investment… all in the name of a fancy microphone. Makes me sick.

3 months ago |Noise is only an issue if you are looking for it. Stop looking for it and enjoy photography instead of being in a laboratory.
Your viewing audience don’t care about it, most people don’t know how to recognise it. At normal viewing/printing sizes it’s a non-issue.
Print an A65 image and a A57 image, no difference.
Stan
3 months ago |I think the problem here is not comparison, but rather how the camera is used. If he’s trying to use it at 3200 ISO, then no camera will give a clean image at that ISO.
Stan
3 months ago |Alternatively get yourself a Sony SAL-1650 lens, which is ~1 stop better at wide end than a stock A65 lens, and 2 stops at telephoto. That is if you need a zoom lens.
Otherwise you can get yourself a prime 35mm F/1.4 or a 50mm F/1.4 and you’ve got yourself a lens that is 2 stops faster than SAL-1650…
Sythrix
3 months ago |Yeah.. The 16-50 is nice, but I’m hesitant to spend that much on a DT lens. I do eventually want to step up to full frame, maybe not anytime soon, but someday.
What bugs me is how old the 65 is. Will they release a successor this year? Who knows.
Stan
3 months ago |I sure hope they do, I was ready for A58, until it proved to be an utter dissapointment with downgrade in multiple areas. A78 is probably going to be too expensive, unless they will try to position it between A65 and A77, then it is a perfect camera for me.
Frank
3 months ago |A58 entry level. A3x definitely dropped then.

3 months ago |Anybody else think that Paul Genge should work for Sony UK as their Development Manager? Oh wait….
Typical Sony, having their Konica Minolta PHOTOGRAPHERS *cough* “leaving” Sony…
CTPhotographX.com
3 months ago |I thought it funny that the Sony Rep stated reason for shoe change was because users asked for it. I don’t recall anyone asking to trade 25 years of hard earned iISO compatibility and 3rd party support abandoned in favor of a shoe which nothing but Sony works with.
Surprised that Genge actually said “nothing fit the iISO”… That’s a bold face lie… as much as I respect the work he’s trying to do, it’s the biggest misinformation act there is. Tons of stuff available for iISO right now, smart stuff with full HSS and TTL. Now adapters are needed to make it all work half assed on new shoe, and not fully compatible even then. It’s like 1995 all over again.
Made a promise not to get new shoe camera until at least one 3rd party offering is available. Think I’ll be waiting long?

3 months ago |It’s not sorcery that the A58 is selling worse than the A57, it’s common sense, The only improvement the A58 has is an upgrade in resolution and maybe a slightly better EVF, the rest is much worse. Specially insulting the lack of 60p.
Mno
3 months ago |A57 outselling a58…. Purely from Sony HQ’s view… Isn’t that their perfect dream scenario ? Old model flying off the shelves, clearing out old stock….
Simon T
3 months ago |Sounds great until there are no more A57′s to buy and then you have the A58 likely not selling that well and Sony are in effect losing market share. Not that they have much anyway, but you get the idea

3 months ago |Looking at the Amazon list Canon dominate big time. I see the Canon 6d in at number 9 and the A99 nowhere to be seen (it’s in the bundles list but 44th!)
Sony’s SLT seems to have had no impact at all in the market v it’s rivals. Why would anyone expect the A58 to interest people? They’re busy ordering D7100′s on pre-order.
A58 is ranked 80 in DSLR bundles slightly ahead of the Canon 30d and Nikon D80(that’s how sad things are now for Sony)
