2 years ago |I hope to hear 85/2.8 reviews soon. Perhaps I won’t even need 85/1.4

2 years ago |Strange, Amazon shows 374.00 and B&H shows 249.00 for the 85mm.

2 years ago |hmm.. the sony might be a interesting choice for studio work when you dont need a very shallow dof. but the the nikon 85mm f1.8 is 370€ and the canon only 330€..
f2.8 primes just seem kind of slow.. maybe they should have made it f2..because after this release it is very unlikely they will bring out another 85mm lens. now we have a great zeiss but expensive and a cheap f2.8 .. f2 would have been a good compromise.

2 years ago |chris – personally I would agree but looking at it from Sony’s POV an 85 2.0 wouldnt have fulfilled the brief.
The ‘easychoice’ range has a pretty well defined place in the Sony line-up. Sub $us250, 55mm or smaller filter, the first primes a newcomer will ever buy.

2 years ago |I didn’t count myself as newcomer, but seriously consider to buy it for A55 especially for small size. According to MTF charts it is perfect for APS-C even wide open and very usable for portraits. Apertures 2.8-4 for portraits I like much more than supershallow DOF.

2 years ago |Guys, this is a cheap (!) full-frame (!) prime. I don’t think, Sony’s primary intention is to sell it to a900/a850 users. May we expect a cheap (!) full-frame body for the lens?
