New Sony A65 and NEX-5n reviews! (and a couple of A77 tests).

Photographyblog (Click here) posted the next Sony review. That time they tested the new Sony A65, the little sister (with the same sensor) of the A77. And the camera gets Highly Recommended! Here is the reason: “Image quality is excellent, with results from the 24.3 APS-C sensor easily rivalling the DSLR competition. The OLED viewfinder is simply the best EVF that we’ve ever had the pleasure of using. The A65 is still a fantastic SLT camera that is a genuine threat to the more conventional prosumer DSLRs on the market.”
The A65 is in Stock almost everywhere in the world now: Check at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
And there is also a new NEX-5n review at Pocket-Lint (Click here): “The NEX-5N has two major things going for it: image quality and its HD movie mode. There’s no other compact system camera out there that can better the 5N’s images (except, perhaps, for the as-yet-untested NEX-7), though the distortion at wide-angle settings can make for edge softness issues. As for the second point: the 1080p movie mode is exceptional in quality, control and performance terms. In fact we’d go as far as saying there’s no other CSC out there at this price point that’s as good in this department.“.
I own the NEX-5n and also highly recommend it: Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
And here are two more links about the A77. First an A77 versus A700 image comparison at Dpreview forum and than ISO samples at Photographybay.

7 months ago |I also have the A65, and all I can say is that this is a magnificent piece of imaging product. I albolutely love it. Unless you are using it for work, I think A65 can satisfy everybody’s needs. (If it had the AF-assist lamp, maybe I would be over-the-top happy with it. And btw, now I am really courious, what the A9x will be able to do next year

7 months ago |Well, since already A77 has an AF-assist lamp, I’d think that it ought to be most probable that the A8X, A9X, A10X (or whatever) also will have it.

7 months ago |Damn sure, but they should have put it in the A65 also

7 months ago |They should have put all the Software gimmicks (customisable min/max ISO, lens calibration) in the A65, too.
And why not have an 1/8000 shutter as well?
Oh wait..then it would be the A77

7 months ago |Great review by photography blog, and the samples look good too
I’ve always found them to be a bit more friendly to Sony – their a580 and a850 reviews were also excellent and helped me to buy those two cameras.

7 months ago |Just got my A77 two days ago, compared with A850, in the end I still prefer the image produced by A850.

7 months ago |Well that doesn’t come as a surprise, I would hope that a full frame was better!

7 months ago |Well, maybe I haven’t really get myself into SLT just yet coz I just have it for like a few days and haven’t got a time to really take it for a spin.
Anyways, really hope the full frame SLT will be made to amaze~!!

7 months ago |[oppel] I really don’t need the fast shutter, custom iso etc. But the assist lamp is something _everybody_ could use. Don’t misunderstand my words on purpose.

7 months ago |Well, before I knew it, I ordered the one from Amazon/Adorama. A77 body-only. Time to sell off my beloved A700. *sigh*

“The A65 also has a clever eye level sensor that switches off the rear screen’s info display as you bring your eye close to the excellent optical viewfinder…”
Ups, electronic viewfinder. . .
How fast does it switch ( around 1/2 a second ) ?

7 months ago |Coming from the A550, I am very pleased with my A65. It’s ergonomics suite me perfectly. Not as small as the A55, so for large hands this made my day.
The EVF, although not perfect, is obviously the way of the future. To be able to create an image exactly how I want it without your eyes ever leaving the eyepiece, well, it really can’t be explained until you experience it. I haven’t been able to mess around with the video yet, so I can’t comment on that.
I believe Sony is going in the right direction with the SLTs, but their marketing, surprisingly, leaves much to be desired. The Nex7 may help shake this up a bit, but not being able to meet the demands, well, they’d better get a better management team to get the word out.

7 months ago |The EVF is better than the A550 tiny penta-mirror OVF though
I find it funny that people (not you) complain about the EVF yet are still using a crappy, dark, tiny OVF on their mid-range dSLR…

7 months ago |Gotta say, every break I get from work, I always head down to jessops and have a play around with the 65 and 77, the viewfinders are growing on me something chronic.
I have a go with the 77 and then a go with the 580 and heck, theres just no competition, even I’d say it beats viewfinders from the likes of the nikon d7000 and canon 60d
