New Sony DT 16-80mm F2.8-3.5 G SSM patent spotted?
We from SonyAlphaRumors already told you that Sony plans to update many of their lenses. One of the lenses that could be update soon is the Sony 16-80mm f/3.5-4.5 Lens. Sonydslr.com found a patent of a new version which is a half stop faster f/2.8-3.5. The question now is….how long do we have to wait for the lens? Photokina in September?

2 years ago |i was hoping for a lens like this to arrive in about 1 year from now, the perfect range and speed for apsc. I don’t really care for the price as long as it’s under 1300$.

2 years ago |only noticed this…but the current 16-80mm lens is a Carl Zeiss not a G lens so the replacement should still be a Zeiss lens not a G one.

2 years ago |The 16-80mm is probably my favourite Digital Only lens available for the Sony A-Mount.
Its super sharp for Travel and Studio work.
Controls flare very well.
Only real room for improvement is:
* SSM
* Fstop
* Build should be metal
* Barrel snugness (mine has a little play)
I’d hate to see it disappear to be replaced by a G. Not that G’s are worse, I just think this Zeiss with it’s T* coating is hard to beat.

2 years ago |What are you all talking about? This so-called “patent” is fake as gay. Even the website didn’t have any link to original patent page, if it exists

I’m astonshed about the lack of good leaks relating to Photokina – however don’t feel like you have start inventing thngs just to fill the void.
