New Sony NEX-7 news and reviews roundup….
The grip designed by Mike Kobal.
Last week I posted hee the news about the new Ownuser NEX-7 battery grip (Click here to read the article and see the pictures). But the Sony Nex 7 Concept grip by Mike Kobal (Click here) looks much more sexy. Too bad it is just a concept for now

4 months ago |That “grip” looks stylish, but doesn’t seem very functional as a GRIP other than being an extra place for batteries. The secondary shutter button, if present, would be located at a location that would be a pain to use.

4 months ago |Just FYI,
Sony is getting rhaped in Australia.
There are no Sony Cameras/Lenses at JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Normans.
Canon and Nikon has a stand where consumers gets to play around with the cameras. If only Sony Australia had half a brain to put up their own stand….

4 months ago |Sony Marketing Australia do really need to get their act together and start pushing their products into a mainstream market.
I believe they are lacking in dealer support, and thus the larger chains are not supporting Sony in response.

4 months ago |It isn’t just Australia, Sony UK are a joke too. They aren’t even bothering to turn up to a massive photography event here. Canon and Nikon are all over it.

4 months ago |Mike Kobal, that grip is damn sexy!
Great work!

4 months ago |thanks WTH! I find myself using Alpha lenses a lot, though AF is not quite as fast as on the A77, it is plenty fast for most situations. A grip extension to wrap your whole hand around would would make a huge difference, I feel a shutter button or vertical grip on a slim body like then Nex 7 is a waste, but extra battery power would be nice, esp since the LA AE2 needs a lot of juice

4 months ago |dont think its made for that, theres not even a grip on the vertical side. looks like its just an extension of the regular grip for basketball player sized hands. hmmm… the other vertical grip was hideous. form or function? not both

4 months ago |Now that’s more like it. Simple and smart looking. I think that crap company Ownuser is will basically be their “own user” for their stupid grip.

4 months ago |I agree. Simple and smart looking. That’s about it.

4 months ago |That’s not a grip. The grip need to be the same width as the handgrip.

4 months ago |IMO, the best vertical grip would include the tri-navi function. Of course, it would also need a 2nd shutter button also.
I don’t see the point of these “grips” that only act as an additional battery compartment. I’m fine keeping my batteries in my bag or pocket.

4 months ago |Yup. The reason I like Sony grips on dSLRs over canikon is the duplication of functions on the grip. Canikon grips are nothing more than a battery holder with a shutter button…

4 months ago |Rokinon 8/2.8 can be interesting. But I can’t find real sharpness on all those images from ThePhoBlographer review.

4 months ago |Nice grip but I don’t think Sony will make one unless it’s for the NEX-9 FF model… if that every becomes a reality.
Regarding Sony Marketing… They closed the Sony Style store in San Francisco… nearest Sony store is 35 miles away from the city… They also closed the Sony store in Chicago…
Everywhere I go in the world and want to check out Sony stuff… the stores are closing faster than I can travel…
Most camera stores usually only stock Canon/Nikon ranges… might have 1-2 Sony models + 1-2 lenses… It’s pitiful!!!…
Last Sony store I got to play around with the lenses was Sony Hong Kong… Great store… but that’s it!
I bought my NEX-5 and A55 in Sony Moscow… CZ lens in Sony London.
There aren’t many left though… I figure their 2-year marketing plan will have every Sony Style store closed by 2014!!!…

4 months ago |When you say “Sony” closed the shop, you might find that it is the FRANCHISE that closed the shop. In the UK there are no “Sony” owned shops, they are franchises flying the Sony logo.
There is no advantage buying from a Sony shop, they are just like any high-street shop. They just happen to have Sony plastered all over them.

4 months ago |yeah, there used to be three Sony shops here in Ottawa (Canada) and now there’s only one in the least central mall. I can understand the stores closing, why shop at a Sony only store when you can buy online or go to an electronics shop that gives you a choice of brands… so that’s not a surprise.
What really gets me is the lack of promotion at camera stores. Henry’s (One of major Canadian camera chains) has ZERO Nex’s in stock to play with, all they have is the fake plastic NEX 3 and 16mm display thingy from when the line first launched. OK, so you’re low on stock, but would it make such a huge dent in the global back orders to supply just one display model for some of the major camera stores. I’d love to at least see a NEX 7 in real life while I’m waiting for my pre-order, it would go a long way to keeping my order placed.

4 months ago |I don’t care how a “design” looks like. I need/want a grip (the physical thing) that I can buy and use.
Mike Kobal
4 months ago |hehe, I hear you, Vivek, same here, I want a grip, I would be shooting everything with the 7
