NEX-5n news roundup (and fix news)
Sony Nex 5n compared vs. Sony Nex FS100: ungraded/graded clips 1080/60i (Mike Kobal).
Sony France (via Focus Numerique) told that the clicking noise comes from a mechanical part on the shutter. And the fix consists in lubricating that part! That’s it

2 years ago |I would have guessed so its related to the shutter. I posted a video of same clicking sound made by GF3 too. GF3 doesnt have orientation sensor so it couldnt be sound from it.
Almazar80
2 years ago |I am glad I was wrong about the orientation sensor. Is the GF3 problem as noticeable as the NEX-5N problem? If so, is Panasonic issuing a fix as well?
Snapperbox
2 years ago |Gf3 only “clicks” when shaked vigorously. I guess the shutter mechanism of 5N is more loose as the clicking occurs with even some slight movements.

2 years ago |The location and mounting of the microphones will have a effect on the loudness of the sound.
Also, there is the question of how exactly the NEX-5N sets its recording levels.
mosquito
2 years ago |does it have really something to do with the microphone?
i thought u could hear the clicking sound IRL…so it should be recorded by the microphone as well.

2 years ago |With recent quality issues of 5N and A77 which has somewhat smeared the hot anticipation of these products, and as a long time alpha user, i am beginning to have my doubts on quality of their products. Having no such major issues on their products for the past 3 yrs, i wonder sony has regretted shifting their production to Thailand.

I was excited about this great round of products from Sony but it seems like everywhere I look there’s another round of bad news… the clicking on the NEX-5N (which I just got yesterday and can confirm) and the disappointing high ISO shots from the A77… I’m majorly bummed!!!

2 years ago |lubricate hmm… Bigger risk for grease on sensor?
Dirk
2 years ago |Grease on the sensor is no problem! It’s a cheap STF-like tuning

2 years ago |If the clicking sound comes from the shutter, why is there no clicking
when one held the camera still? Or does there also come clicking noise
when the camera is not moved at all? That would be really bad.
And what kind of shutter is used in video mode, if any?
I thought it would just be an electronic shutter so no moving parts?
Until Sony explain official I don’t believe anything here for sure.
Sony at Sony.com not Sony.moon or something
Vlad
2 years ago |Because when you hold the camera still, nothing moves.
You don’t use a shutter in video mode, you use a microphone.
And you thought wrong about the electronic shutter.

2 years ago |The HX9V footage looks great, it holds its own against the most expensive bigger sensor counterparts.

2 years ago |+1 HX9V is really a great product, putting consumer HD video cameras on notice!
D
2 years ago |Agreed, I’m really impressed by it. I’m getting one for my parents since they want to shoot video for their overseas trip and they want something a lot more pocketable than either NEX or Micro Four Thirds.
By the way, I meant to say “more expensive” rather than “most expensive” in my initial post. The MOST expensive HD video camera would probably eat the HX9V alive
Although it’s hard to beat in terms of value for money.

2 years ago |there is some evidence that could confirm that lubricate the mechanism solves the problem?
TTT
2 years ago |if it is lubricate it is mean that after 12 month ( of garantee period) it going to be hard and camera going unusable?
Rickmotionpic
2 years ago |I’m not sending mine in for a fix. yes it will rattle if you shake it, but if you are shooting proper stable video and not iPhone type rubbish you won’t have a problem
Patrik
2 years ago |Hi all.
I also have the “click” issue, but will send my 5n back due to that it only captures 4 frames at 10 per sec, then it slows down to 3 per sec.
Anyone else having this problem?
Keep up the good work with this site!

2 years ago |I’m not saying that this wrong solution, possibly forgot to lubricate the mechanism when assembling the camera .. but anyway we all want to know if this is the ultimate solution and if will be permanent.. I want to buy this camera, but now is not whether to buy the NEX-5 or NEX-5N

2 years ago |I’m glad they are addressing the click issue. But, how is lubricating the part going to stop a click? It just seems like a wrong choice of words. All that matters is that if you send it in they fix it, but lubrication seems to me would just let the part slide faster, but how would that stop a noise when it hits the end of its swing? Oh well, I suppose they know what needs fixed, but just curious about the word ‘lubrication’, instead of maybe ‘dampening’ the sound.

2 years ago |Digital Rev TV has put out their NEX 5N review up. Quite a few hits at Sony fans, but seemed to be pretty good review of the camera. The video was shot on a Alpha 77.
