NEX-6 sensor tested at DxOmark. Same quality as the NEX-5r/n.

DxOmark (Click here) published the full NEX-6 sensor test and it’s probably even not worth it to click on the link to read their article ![]()
This because the NEX-6 has exactly the same performance of the NEX-5r and the NEX-5n.
And here are two more NEX reviews: NEX-6 at Camerahoarders and NEX-5r at Photographyblog. And two NEX-6 demo ktis are for sale on eBay US (via Slidoo).

6 months ago |Not unexpected. On SONY’s own product channel, they confirmed that they wanted to use the same sensor as the 5n because it was so well accepted.

The NEX-7 struggles with corners and wide lenses and it’s possible to detect purple fringing even with SONY’s own 16/2.8 pancake. Steve Huff’s reviews with Leica lenses showed that these were unworkable, and so lots of people ended up staying with the 5n rather than the more expensive 7.

6 months ago |That’s unfortunate as it seems the NEX-7 still has the best IQ (DxO score) out of all the NEX.

6 months ago |DxO overall scores are very absurd. Please give up DxOmark overall score.
Please read here,
http://forum.dxomark.com/index.php/topic,940.msg1855/topicseen.html#msg1855
DxOmark Overall Scores below,
Sony Nex-5n Overall score 77
Nikon d5100 Overall score 80
Nikon d7000 Overall score 80
Pentax k-5 Overall score 82
However, as you seen the image sharpness and resolution are totally with the reversed results.
So called the DxOmark Overall Scores were based on an A4 size of the printed result simulation.
Ok, who bought an expensive 35mm camera and is even a 645 camera to merely want to print on A4 size? Could it be a cellphone-camera?
Also, all the DxOmark Overall Scores were lacked an image resolution performance comparison, and is also lacked other much key comparison.
So-called high overall scores have what true worth?
In film era, evaluating a film model you impossible to do not measure the film resolution. Besides the color response and grains and exposure latitude, must also measure resolution.
In nowadays, if you claimed to professionally measure a lens, but you do not measure the lens resolution, and saying the lens merely print the A4 size, so what to be a big joke.
People who read the DxOmark measured camera sensor, to do a double clicks on “screen mode” (pixel by pixel), to watch the chart and data.
Please give up DxOmark overall score.

French Brandies were well known worldwide
French DxOmark Overall Scores discredited global

DxOmark’s “screen mode” (pixel by pixel) for the data and info are worth to read.
But, therein is no related sharpness and resolution, nor other key items, so, here is impossible to get a reliable Overall Score.
Denis
6 months ago |Resolution (in pixels) isn’t a valuable characteristic until we should downscale image to show in tablet, monitor, etc or print it to the certain size. It is also function of tuple (amount of pixels, lens resolution) and DxO has specific rating for lenses where you can choose a camera they have tested lens with and observe its performance with the body.

6 months ago |DxOmark Overall Scores were merely including “color depth” (in base ISO only), “DR” (in base ISO only), and “low light ISO”, lacking much more items, and that is an A4 size of the printed result simulation only.
Also, the base ISO in DxOmark measurement is not a fixed ISO 100, it is floating. If a camera is base ISO 50, another camera is base ISO 100, but DxO still claims the base ISO scores.
So, such the scores have what factual meaning?

6 months ago |It’s an unfortunate thing for a high res APSC camera like the NEX7, but we’ll have to wait till the release of Zeiss 12/2,8 to confirm if the purple fringing is really a sensor issue or not
John Maverick
6 months ago |That won’t really tell us anything? Zeiss will almost certainly work around the issue by using a larger than required retro-focal design to reduce the light incidence angle. Conversely, all symmetrical lens designs with focal length less than 35mm from Leica, Zeiss and Voightlander show evidence of the issue. Purple colour shift is due light spillover into adjacent bayer pixel wells. Corner detail smearing is due to refraction in the anti-aliasing toppings (see VG900).

6 months ago |wasn’t a firmware update for NEX-7 just released to eliminate its issues with wide angle lenses? apparently it made the 16mm pancake perform much better

6 months ago |This casts some doubt on Johnnie Behiri’s opinion that the NEX-6 is inferior to the 5N for video. I was skeptical then, and even more skeptical now, after seeing more conclusive evidence that they produce very similar (if not identical) output.

6 months ago |According to the DXOMARK, the key point that makes differences is that NEX6 is able to support ISO100, whereas the base ISO of E-M5 starts at ISO200. It’s eager to see the new E-M5 firmware which probably will be released in mid of December.
Denis
6 months ago |Strange conclusion. The so called ISO200 of OM-D is actually ISO100.

6 months ago |I really feel that my NEX-5n was the best purchase ever. I’ve been keeping an eye on the 5r and 6 to see if I should upgrade, but it really looks like 5n just hit the perfect sweet spot sensor-wise a full year ago. Sweet. Now I can save up my cash for the magical unicorn-producing FF NEX rumored for next year!

6 months ago |If we’re still into it:
DEAR SONY,
Release the NEX 7X with PASM dial with dedicated memory positions, weather sealing, and an improved 24MP sensor without AA filter (so it actually works like a poor man’s LEICA);
oh, and with an ALPHA menu system like the SLTs.
Then you’re back to business.
BTW, the new NEX 6 is great!

6 months ago |Mind that all Sony APS-C sensors over 12Mp are much worse for night photography than 12Mp sensor of A700 and A500. They are prone to flare that completely destroys the natural look of overexposed lights. I got rid of it and kept my A700 and A900 – these are the last Sony cameras worth keeping forever. Haven’t tested A99 yet.

6 months ago |Just got my Nex-5r with 16-50 lens yesterday yay! Upgrading from an Nex-F3 because that old 18-55 lens weighs a tonne out and about and the focus occasionally missed a beat. Love the better build quality from the 5r but somehow it’s not as charming as the F3. The new lens is great but underexposes a lot in low light – moreso than the F3.
