NEX-7 hands-on video at dpreview (Will there be a shipping delay because of the flood in Thailand?)
The video on top shows the NEX-7 in the hands of the Dpreview reviewer. But I also have one more ting to tell you. Things in Thailand are much worse than expected and I heard that there will be even longer delays in Sony camera shipments (and that includes the NEX-7). As you know also Nikon produces the camera in the same region and Thom Hogan (Click here) posted quite a terrible report about the consequences in Nikon factories. I ask my sources if they can please tell me if the NEX-7 shipment will be delayed or not. Thanks!

2 years ago |Amazon in the USA sent me an email that they are shipping the Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 Lens on Oct 16th, 2011. Had pre-ordered it Sept 29. No word on the other Nex lens or Nex 7.

Canon Inc. halted operations at its inkjet printer plant in Ayutthaya because of flooding and will keep the factory closed tomorrow as a precautionary measure, Hirotomo Fujimori, a Tokyo- based spokesman for the company, said by phone today. Indorama Ventures Pcl (IVL), which says it’s the world’s largest producer of polyester, shut factories in Lopburi province that make wool yarns and polymers, the company said on Sept. 27.
Sony Corp.’s factory in Ayutthaya, which produces digital cameras and lenses, hasn’t suffered major damage from flooding and is operating as normal, Yasuhiro Okada, a Tokyo-based spokesman for the electronics maker, said by phone today.
but Nikon get hurt

2 years ago |That is good news, but let’s remember that operating production as normal doesnt mean making shipments (unless the CEO is sending his private helicopter).

2 years ago |Well I was at ‘Sony Center’ in Bangkok today and they had just gotten their demo A77 for me to play around with (it’s fantastic!), but are taking pre-orders only. I also needed some candy for my NEX-5 but the sales manager said she had no stock and could not promise delivery from warehouses. We worked out a solution in her transferring the goods from another Bangkok store that still had my products in stock. This is the general situation right now with pretty much anything in Bangkok: if you need something that is not in stock, there are no commitments on delivery. And yes, all the main industrial parks north of Bangkok are more or less shut down due to floods.

2 years ago |Sadly, I’m afraid that this type of flooding will become more commonplace as a result of global climate change.

2 years ago |Not only climate change, but also the habit of laying concrete everywhere without proper drainage. Sometimes this results from corruption in the awarding of contracts.

Well… where are you right now? Oh my god, what’s that in your hand?!

2 years ago |Does anybody know the changes SONY did to the SEL-1855 kit lens, since there’s a noticeable improvement of sharpness between the two models shipped with the NEX-5 and the NEX-5N – even when the new lens is used with the old NEX-5:

2 years ago |Those photos are taken with one new and one old copy of the kit lens. You would have to test a dozen or more from each batch to see if there is a consistent improvement. It is just as likely that the older one happened to be a poor specimen and the new one just happened to be a good one.
But Sony may have tightened up on their quality control or found ways to assemble the lens more accurately.
The commonest aberration in lenses is decentring – that is, inaccurate assembly so that the elements are not perfectly lined up.

2 years ago |It would be good to have a rough estimate of the degree of predictability of each rumor.
In this case it’s interesting that the 55-210mm lens is shipping significantly in advance of original estimates.
The cameras are probably made elsewhere, but I don’t see any reliable info available as yet.
So we have no way of knowing to what degree this is worth worrying about or mostly just a possibility.

2 years ago |Could be that the 55-210mm is made in China, not Thailand. The NEX camera bodies from my understanding are all made in Thailand however.

2 years ago |I was at the Paris Sony Store this afternoon and they told me that NEX-7 will be available in 10-12 days. They weren’t able to confirm a specific releasing day but they were pretty sure that it will come out before the end of October. notice that I don’t know if they were talking about the entire french market or only for the Sony Store (the Sony Store sold the Tablet S two weeks before the official release, so)

2 years ago |Anyone know if the NEX-7 will have an EYE-FI option in menus?
Paul
2 years ago |Nevermind, the NEX-7 will have the same functionality with the Eye-FI sd cards as my wife’s NEX-5n. Gives indication of upload progress and allows control over turning wifi on or off. I am ordering an eye-fi card right now, as I want to be able to view my photos on my tablet while traveling (there is an app for that, both apple and android).
