One Rokinon review, one Rokinon delay and one Rokinon deal :)
—
Today we have a triple Rokinon/Smayang news:
The delay: On Facebook Samyang announced that the Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC release has been postponed to March 2013.
The review: SLRgear tested the 85mm f/1.4 Rokinon/Smayang lens and writes: “Samyang’s approach to make an economical manual focus lens was a wise one: if you don’t need autofocus, but want the razor-thin depth-of-field of a fast lens for not a lot of money, the lens was already on your radar.”
The deal: The Rokinon 8mm fisheye got a $70 discount at BHphoto (Click here).
Two reminders:
1) The first one is that like The Count of Montecristo (book I am reading now) also Rokinon has dozen names. In USA: Rokinon, Samyang, Opteka, Bower and in Europe: Samyang, Rokinon, Walimex, Falcon, Vivitar.
2) Keep watching these Black Friday deals on Amazon (Click here) on Adorama (36 pages of deals!) and on BHphoto (Click here). They are updating every hour and I am not going to update you with every deal on every camera and accessory
Happy shopping!
P.S.: The Count of Montecristo is the perfect book if you like me dream a revenge but you want do it for real

6 months ago |@Admin – use Samyang name. Rokinon is how they brand their products in US. The other name they use is Falcon, but the actual company producing all these lenses is Samyang (and as such they are branded in Europe and Asia).

6 months ago |Rokinon is the official U.S distributor of samyang lenses. Rokinon is not only sells Rokinon & Samyang lenses but also support both brands. You can get full warranty service through Rokinon. Other minor players don’t support Samyang. So, In my opinion, it is better to call Rokinon/Samyang lenses or Samyang/Rokinon lenses…

6 months ago |I just got the Rokinon 14mm f2.8 for Sony. It’s a great lens, as long as you realize it is only $400. It’s not a Zeiss. But for a really inexpensive super side angle lens at a great price, I recommend it.
It certainly isn’t perfect, it’s got some crazy distortions and I’ve not found any lens profile to correct it in LR. But, my use is really for landscape and it’s unlikely I’ll see very many of the distortions.

6 months ago |i’m using the walimex 14mm/2,8 which is the same lens just under a different name for europe, on a Sony A580 and NEX5n /NEX6 in conjunction with PTLENS – for a trial see http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/index.html – and it does a nearly perfect recovery of the complex distortions of this lens, which is a very sharp one.

6 months ago |Hi,
There are multiple models of 8mm rokinon/samyang lenses. Would be anybody so kind to explain me the differences?
Thanks
Austin
6 months ago |They are just different brandings. The Vivitar, Bower, Samyang, Rokinon, etc… Lenses of the same focal lengths are the same. The only variation of the 8mm I know of is th one specially designed for the nex, the 8mm 2.8 (the 3.5 exists for e mount but is just the regular lens with a big flange mount, no reason to get it over the 2.8).

6 months ago |As well as being smaller and faster; reviews I read also suggest that the f2.8 version is better quality too.
As Austin mentioned, the f3.5 is designed for multiple mounts including A-mount and it feels like Rokinon quickly added an extension tube on the back to make it work with the NEX.
The f2.8 came later as they took their time to do it properly.
(and it’s great fun to use)
