Photozone reviews the 28-75mm f/2.8 lens!
The Sony 28-75mm f/2.8 SAM has been tested by Photozone (Click here): “The Sony 28-75mm f/2.8 SAM is an affordable alternative to the Zeiss ZA 24-70mm f/2.8. Technically it isn’t all that far away from its bigger brother – both have a weakness at max. aperture specifically with respect to the corner resolution. However, the Zeiss is generally more snappy here (higher contrast) – this aspect is not exactly a strength of the Sony lens. ”

2 years ago |I’ve been on the fence with this lens… Was going to get either this or the CZ 16-80, but after reading this review I’m thinking CZ all the way.

2 years ago |It is not an “either/or” situation with the Sony “Visoflex” as it wasn’t for Leica. Leica M ran alongside Leica R for years.
It simply makes an imperfect system a lot better.
What will the cost be? Maybe something like £500? If so there is a market for cheaper SLT cameras (sub £1000) as the cost of a NEX + “visoflex” + lens = expensive!

2 years ago |I had Minolta 28-75 and used with A700. Then traded this combo for A850 + 24-70 CZ. A short time I used 24-70 CZ with A700 and must say that Zeiss is a way better lens while 28-75 was very sharp indeed. Although shots with 28-75 at 2.8 was a trash. Next, 24mm on the short end is much more practical in the field than 28mm, the last always forced to have something wider along with it.
Agreed with people demanding 24-85/2.8 but with Zeiss parameters it would be the heck heavy and bulky beast.

2 years ago |There is a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 already. Not exactly what you asked for, but it’s a start. 28mm with APS-C isn’t wide enough, I totally agree.
Dear Sony, Sigma or Tamron – if you’re reading this – I’d like to request an A-mount 15-80mm f2.8. Thanks

2 years ago |This lens is mainly for FF, 28 is like a 42mm
Why not a 16~60 f2.8 made for APS-C ? A perfect all around lense, from landscape to portrait.

28 isnt wide enough for anything its an old standard.
24mm should be todays minimum.
Whoever makes 24-85mm f2.8 will be king. Using newest tech the lens could be kept at decent size!:-)

2 years ago |You’re right~ It is a rebrand Tamron with SAM. Btw, the Tamron is a bit more sharper.

2 years ago |@Frosti7 – it is a SAM lens, you can see it on the barrel
I use the 24-70 Zeiss and I love it on my A900, but this is a definitely a cheap alternative for those who don’t want to spend the $ on the Zeiss
