3 years ago |wow… looks like not much different between Axx and Axxx? the technical performances are so alike.. isn’t Axx a premier product compared to Axxx?
anyways, thx to admin for your sharing..

3 years ago |Hmmm, looks like the A33/A55 cameras will continue the current 1080i/60 trend Sony has had going with the rest of their SLR/P&S cameras.
I’m intrigued by the built-in GPS however. I absolutely love my GPS-CS3KA device, so I’m excited to see how built-in GPS will function. I’m assuming there will be a way to keep the GPS antenna powered on while the cameras itself is powered off.

3 years ago |Im excited about the a55, but I dont understand how the consumer is going to figure out the difference between these four products. I would have made just two cameras and had the differences between them be a bit greater.

3 years ago |what a waste of time.
a55 a560 a580 why don’t they just release only a580 ?

3 years ago |also I wonder if those ISO numbers are native or like the a900, just in camera processing??

3 years ago |For me, build in GPS will be a killer feature, I hope it will not affect batterylife too much.
Very curious about pricing, and the other differences between Axx and Axxx.
I guess one of the major differences will be in the design of the cameras, since Axx won’t have swivel LCD’s. Will they be something between Nex and Axxx? (and offcourse the difference in technique, pellicle vs mirror)
10 fps for the A580? was that allready rumored?
jjack
3 years ago |Can anyone tell why there’s built in GPS in camera? And what is that swivel screen? From my understanding a580 is the best one among the four right?

3 years ago |To bad the body of the A560/580 is not magnesium, or else it might compete with the Canon 7D/50D

3 years ago |I don’t see the difference between the A55 and A580.
What would be the advantage of choosing an A55 over an A580?

The difference is the translucent mirror design of the A55 – this allows phase af while recording video or using main sensor liveview or the EVF. The A580 would use the more classical SLR design and would have to use contrast AF in this cases (like the NEX).

3 years ago |I still hope there will be a successor for the a700 and some new FF DSLR Cams. A not more beginner cams ;-(
I need no A7xx. If the A55 or the A580 have the functions of the A700 it is ok. The number isn’t important! But i do not think that they have the functions of an A700.

3 years ago |From what I understood from previous rumors, the main difference between the Axx and the Axxx is in the mirror. The new pellicle mirror for the Axx (fast video autofocus, no mirror blackout, some light loss, probably electronic viewfinder?) and a classical SLR mirror for the Axxx.
Can anyone confirm that?
Alex
3 years ago |The Difference between the AXX and the AXXX is the fact that the AXX’s have the pellix mirror, which is transparent and thus will have continous autofocusing for movies, and some other advantages over a regular mirror, BUT will be darker by 1/3′d of an f-stop (apparently).
What seems like utter bs to me is how these cameras don’t have 1080p :\
GH
3 years ago |It’s probably just like the NEX video, where it is 1080p 30 fps in a 1080i 60fps wrapper. No big deal.
LEdgars
3 years ago |In addition for AX5 compared to A5xx continuous phase detection AF could be possible during 7-10fps. For A5xx only contrast AF (if any) like in NEX. For NEX cameras contrast detection AF problem with current A-mount lenses is still not solved.
As always, first generation of some technology revolution, in this case of pellicle (not pellix which is trademark of Canon) mirror cameras will be with some compromises and flaws. Similar to CaNikon video mode without AF in DSLR cameras. But I hope I’m wrong.

3 years ago |Why not 1080p and at least 24fps? That’s what most people who are buying DSLRs mainly for the video want. I don’t get Sony. Such a small change could make these cameras so much more desirable.
Lensmann
3 years ago |@Alex: AVCHD doesn’t support 1080p 30fps. Everybody who claims their camera records 1080p 30fps is actually putting it in an 1080i 60fps container. Sony’s simply being honest about it. Most decent software and virtually all hardware will recognise the footage as native 1080p30, and let you play and edit it without deinterpolation.

3 years ago |will the 10 fps work while auto focusing or will it be focus locked like the a550?
Mackie
3 years ago |1080i ?
Oh please…..
What a disappointment….
even Canon 550D does
• 1920 x 1080 (1080P, 16:9) @ 30/25/24 fps
• 1280 x 720 (720P, 16:9) @ 60/50 fps
• 640 x 480 (4:3) @ 60/50 fps
• Quicktime MOV format (H.264 video, linear PCM audio)
• Up to 29 min 59 sec (or max file size 4 GB)
The New Axx & Axxx Movie spec looks very childish
And as always SONY is killing themselves
with this kind of stubbornness.
It is crystal clear that customers want 24P
and also it is very clear that SONY won’t give it to us
in the end SONY loses
simple as that…..

3 years ago |Hahah.. All I can say is you buy DSLRs not for the video..

Buy video cameras if you want the best video.
Buy DSLRs if you’re into stills more.
Sony has been stronger in their video camera market. They wouldn’t want to kill it
If Canon wants to make a hybrid that’s fine.
However, the market strategy Sony works on does not allow much of it
Consumer demands is always triumphed by decision of the higher ups..

3 years ago |It’s really funny when people think
24p simply refers to better quality.
These are artistic choices now
NLEs can interpret them in any fps
(as long as audio sync is not an issue)
so with canon DLSRs with 24,40,50,60fps
I have much more artistic choices.
whereas as with SONY I am locked to 1080i.
Not only am I going to waste my time with
interlaced footage but also since I have no
artistic choice over frame-rates,
It’s almost as if I am being forced into
using just 1 f-stop.

3 years ago |24p is the inferior quality, not better quality.
The sole reason that 24p’s existence is it was the cheapest choice for people to not to see the glitches in film era (film is expensive).
It is only the legacy that theaters need to be carried on.
and sony’s 1080i60 is equally to 1080p30, since that’s nature capability of sony 14MP sensor, and it is better than 1080p24

3 years ago |60 frames are better than 24.
You can easily get 24 frames out of 60 if you need but you can’t get 60 out of 24.
And it’s easier to create smooth slow motion with more frames available.

The a5xx is not even close to competing with the 7D or D300. :/

3 years ago |I think Sony will us not show am cam on the level of the 7D or better than the 7D
I think i have to change to c or n if sony brings only low level cams.
Syon, where are the good cams (A700 successor, FF)?
Sergio
3 years ago |It’s not easy to get smooth slow motion with 60 frames if they’re interlaced. It needs to be progressive for sweet slow motion.
Come on Sony, give me 60p!!! Even if it’s at 720. After editing 720/60p with the hmc150, no way I’m going back to interlaced. It’s like shooting FF with my a900 versus my a200 (ok maybe an unfair example).
Hey Sony, do you really want to make a splash? Make it 1080p60p. No prosumer camcorder below 5g’s can do that, not even the precious 7d’s, 5d’s, t2i’s and gh2′s can do that. 1080/60p in avchd, Game Over.
But seriously, I don’t care if the price is a little high, just at least give us the choice of something with the framerates we all want. (especially 60p!!).

3 years ago |I remember hearing that the reason Sony was so late to introduce video in their cameras is because they wanted to make sure they did it right and show everyone how it’s done. LOL!

3 years ago |I too would like to see the ability to create smooth slo-mo with higher frame rates.. but let’s hope this is going to be introduced with the a7xx?
Other than that, this camera does sound like a nice animal.
