Pics of the “new” RX1!
As you know Sony modified the original announced RX1 camera. AF-C Auto Focus option has been removed and shutter speed increased to 1:4000. DC.watch (translation here) posted the pics of the final RX1 production camera.
Our friend Mike Kobal posted some hands-on pictures of the prototype RX1: “The camera felt just right in my medium sized hands and control dials and buttons were in the right place. I was a little disappointed to realize the size of the lens, especially with the lens hood attached. It will not fit into my pockets ”
Yesterday Yosuke Aoki from Sony said that “all Sony RX1 photos we have seen so far don’t yet show off the compact full-frame’s camera full potential.“. I can’t wait to see a side by side RAW image comparison between the RX1 and the A99!
A warning: That RX1 eBay auction (Click here) some reader sent me is not for a real in Stock camera!!!
The RX1 can be pre ordered at Amazon, Adorama, BHphoto, Wex UK ,Wex Germany, Sonystore DE-UK-FR-IT-ES-NL-SE-FI-CH and more links at Alphacameradeals.

7 months ago |To be disapointed that a full frame camera doesn’t fit into a pocket sounds a little spoiled.

7 months ago |Why spoiled? My Pentax MX with 50/1.7 lens fits into my pocket.
So, if engineers 30+ years ago could make full-frame camera that fits most of pockets, I assume today the same task should be equally easy to achieve.

7 months ago |You must have had much bigger pockets 30+ years ago, because that camera is huge, especially with the lens.

7 months ago |Funny, when I handled the camera two weeks ago, I thought the lens was smaller than expected, and it would fit nicely into many pockets, not only coat pockets
Who wants to “pocket” their camera with the lens hood attached anyway?! Especially not an expensive aluminium hood that would probably be prone to bending. Today the loss of contrast is most situations is easily compensated for in PP, so lens hood is not at essential as back in the film days I think…but maybe I’m wrong.

7 months ago |i doesn’t want to put lens hood for pocketing RX1
btw we can use lens hood depend of situation, if i found hard light or backlight i will use hood anyway for better image quality
but it not essential to me

HHAHAHAHAHAH, idiot.

7 months ago |The Olympus Mju with a 35mm f/2.8 lens fitted quite nicely into one’s pocket….

7 months ago |Im heading over to japan for a 6 week holiday with the family in two more weeks, and just placed a order for the RX1 via the kitamura online camera store. They have it priced lower than the sony store. So im picking mine up for 223,200 yen. They will only do in store pick up or delivery within japan.
Jonasm
7 months ago |Careful. A Sony camera sold in Japan comes with JP language UI only, not changeable by firmware upgrade.
Kerry
7 months ago |Last time I checked, the RX1 User manual has Language Setting under tab 4, here you can change the language. Or are you referring to something different?

7 months ago |The Contax T2 and the Ricoh GR1 were both real good, super high image quality pocket cameras back in the days of film. I used both of them a lot, wonderful cameras. However, with the RX1 I’d be happy keeping it on a strap and ready to shoot. I really would like one, but it’s a big investment for something that could well be obsolete in a year or so when the FF NEX comes out.
tsoe
7 months ago |Obsolet? I don’t think so:
a) A FF-NEX would be bigger.
b) A FF-NEX would lose the near-silent leaf shutter.
Don Cox
7 months ago |Nobody seems to mention one of the best features of the RX1 – it has a proper cable release socket.
I wish the NEX cameras had that.
Something to add for future models, I think.
Max
7 months ago |How can any future NEX (or anything else) make the RX1 obsolete?
Physics dictates that it will be impossible to make a FF IRC camera smaller than the RX1.

7 months ago |What’s the point of cable release when you have Infra-Red remote control ?
Angry Anonymous
7 months ago |You can shoot standing behind a camera with cable release. With IR only from front.

7 months ago |hey that’s a really good information, i just know that
thanks man

7 months ago |Why are people so obsessed with a mechanical cable release? It’s a relic from 50 years ago. A big thick stiff cable is not a good way to minimise camera shake, there’s an annoying hole in the shutter button and the cable doesn’t fold away easily.
Electronic or wireless is the way to go. Only benefit to mechanical is compatibility and the fact that most photograpers already have one.
