Pocket-lint reviews the A77. It’s a “Hot Product!!!”

New Sony A77 reviews are coming in from all sides. The next one is from Pocket-Lint (Click here). The camera earns 4.5 stars of 5 and earns a “hot Product” status: “Super-fast and super-sleek: Sony’s SLT-A77 is a grand replacement for the long discontinued A700 model. The camera’s OLED viewfinder is fantastic (though still not perfection), and the camera’s 12fps burst mode and clever continuous autofocus are matched with a sterling all-round performance. The A77 will put SLT cameras firmly on the map.”
I have heard that the Thailand flood will soon also affect the A77 shipments. There are plenty of A77 in Stock now in Europe and Asia but there might be a shortage of cameras in a couple of weeks. The only big country that has no A77 in Stock is USA. The good news is that Amazon US is shipping their A77 preorders (and has the A65 in Stock here).
Here are all the A77 links I usually check to see where the camera is in Stock. As usual click on the shop name to check the availability and price:

7 months ago |Not to advertise but we received 30 A77 bodies this week, and we’re not only in the USA but we’re in the Midwest, where the markets tend to get a lower priority. We also received a fair supply of A65 bodies and kits. A77 kits with the 16-50 are definitely delayed and we’ve been told the NEX-7 shipments are likely to be seen end of November. You know what we haven’t seen in MONTHS? The HX100v. Quite the disappearing act it’s had.

7 months ago |I’ve had a SLT A77 on pre-order since the day of release, I still have no email from Amazon as to a shipping date. I also had a NEX-5N on pre-order as well, ended up buying in Canada. Amazon was a full month behind in releasing the NEX-5N

“We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on August 30 2011 (Order# XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX):

Estimated arrival date: November 01 2011″

7 months ago |From the Sony Canada site for the A77:
This item is Backorderable
Estimated ship date: 01/17/2012
I ordered mine from Vistek.ca and it still estimates shipping 12/01/2011 but I fear that may change.
And the B&H site no longer shows “Expecting in November”, now it just says “Temporarily out of Stock”.

7 months ago |I haven’t had any glitches like that. I have noticed that focus tracking doesn’t seem reliable. I try to set it on a stationary object and the rectangle moves off to something else. I’ve tried various objects.
WilliamLeong
7 months ago |I notice that issue as well. Anyway, I’ve disabled that function as it interferes with my middle click to re-center my focus point.

I wouldn’t say they’re worthy of the camera. Improvements are needed in many aspects.

7 months ago |These photos are straight out of the camera, no editing, no resizing. The finished photos are amazing! We are currently editing about 7,000 photos a week and we don’t have the time to edit them before they go n the site. They lose a lot when you put them through photobucket
WilliamLeong
7 months ago |What I commented on doesn’t even have to do with editing/resizing/photobucketing..
Your composition is out the window (yes, I’m rude here), there’s no story to tell about the wedding/couple/guests, direct flash??? really?
Editing 7000 photos a week, so? How many of them are keepers which are up to an actual photographer’s standard? Till you actually post up those said ‘finished photos’ in your marketing portfolio (should you even have one – if you consider that website one, I’m sorry, it doesn’t cut it), I would NEVER give any business to you where money is involved – not even recommend even if it’s free, as it would destroy my own credibility.
It’s AMAZING how you would actually call yourself and your team ‘top photographers in Florida’. I’m an amateur photographer myself, and 1st rule of thumb that I adhere to is to NOT show anything that is less than my own expectations. Better to not show anything, than to show a shot which has half ass effort. I feel sorry for your clienteles.
Till I see with my own eyes that your ‘finished photos’ are up to ‘standard’, I won’t take back my words.
If your ultimate goal is to earn visitors to your site, well, congratulations, you’ve done well getting me to waste my bandwidth there

I do agree with your assessment, when I shoot people for people I am very careful as to what they see, if it is 10% of the shoot then I feel good and did my job..
All photos that I take must pass a very critical review..

7 months ago |You’re totally right, WilliamLeong, a few days ago I saw his ( promoting) posts at preview/ other sites that sell the camera.
On his website they have horrible examples of so so weddings – and they use direct ( in camera?!) flash but say that they have one a77 and will sell their a55′s to get 2 a65 cams as backup.
If they have such great cams and lenses they should get much better pictures and should have the money for better flash systems . They look like a ” company” of a few guys that photograph and play music (dj) for fun and make some money out of it.
No clue about that award – if it is true – just ignore this wedding award site. ..
They try to sell you their stuff ( used minolta lenses) and the a77 from a bad rated seller (according to resellerratings) that buys from china …
I don’t know if they just lie about all their things or really do have clients that really get those awful pictures and pay for them
Please do yourself a favor and stay away from them.
If they don’t get even one good shot that they don’t have to edit so there’s something really wrong if they tag themselves as (“better”) photographers.
Sorry, but I just had to write this because i see so many wannabe pro photographers that pop up and do a living from it while there are others out there that are known or unknown and work real hard to get paid for their excellent work/ different stuff they do.
I consider myself an advanced amateur but I would never post such pictures and be proud of them/ show them off I they are not perfect from my point of view.
Sorry if it sounded rude, but please. Wake. Up.
David
7 months ago |And let us also consider that it is these “pros” who always say things like “Well, I *NEED* xxx feature in this camera” etc
When really it’s lack of knowledge, lack of skill and lack of creativity holding them back.

T2i ToA77
7 months ago |Hello All
My A77 15-50 F2.8 arrived here in Toronto Canada on Firday Oct 28, 2011. I ordered it online from Mcbain Cameras in Alberta pay less taxes there. With the money I saved I got a Delikn 32GB 633X UHS SD card. I also got a free sony bag and an extra battery from Mcbain.
After the battery was charged I turned on the camera and fired off a couple shots in the house, the photo was ok for very low light. I turned off the camera and the LCD remained powered on. Tried to power back on the camera without any luck…had to pop the battery out. Turned the camera back on check the firmware it was 1.03 turned the camera off, this time the LCD was powered off as well, but I could not power the camera back on…once again had to pop the battery. Now I attempted to reflash the firmware 1.03, however because I already had the latest firmware it would not reflash. During the process I had to reset the camera default and that solved the power issue. I am considering returning the camera for a full refund because I think the quality of the pics should be better for e.g exta fine jpegs once oppened in widows photo viewer and zoomed in half way showed the pics as extremely pixelated. However I installed the sony software to check out the GPS tagging which is cool, and noticed when i viewed the pics in the sony software and zoomed in half way the resuld were different much better. I am not a pro or anything like that and my other camera is a t2i with a 50mm f1.4….love that lens. I don’t know how to post the pics and raws on here so you folks can give some advice on if the camera is working the way it should or its the operator. Now with that said….I’m thinking its all in the lens….thinking of gettina a sony 50mm f1.4 since I really enjoy take pics in low light with out the flash. Oh the video wuality 1080P 60fps is awesome.
Henk
7 months ago |If you don’t mind 2nd hand lenses, I would suggest getting n Minolta 50/1.4 which could be had for cheap and is optically identical to the Sony offering.
Henk
7 months ago |Another good thing with using a 50/1.4 on the Sony is that you’re getting image stabilization as well.
T2i ToA77
7 months ago |Reason for thinking about a complete refund I don’t really see that much differece in picture quality between the t2i and A77. I am however using a 50mm f1.4 on the t2i.

7 months ago |If you’re a casual photographer who will not be doing a lot of post processing or use 1080p 60p videos, then keep the Canon and get more lenses for it. If you want all your lenses to be have image stabilization, and if you don’t want to fuzz too much with them, get the A65. If you want micro focus adjustments and a little bit more control, and weather sealing, keep the A77.

7 months ago |CZECH REP. – bodies only are in stock in several stores, and I was told by Sony that 16-50 kits should arrive 4.november. They also told me that A77 can be seen in Olympia Brno in Sony’s Showroom since 1.November.
T2i ToA77
7 months ago |Thank you for the feedback. I’ll try to get my hands on a minolta 50 f1.4. One of the reasons I got the A77 was for its ability to focus faster/better that the t2i half of the shots I take with the t2i comes out slight blury . October is a weird month for me most of my family and friends birthdays are in October including myself. So taking pics of the bd’s are indoors low light and I really don’t like to use the flash it’s always so harsh and ppls skin looks so oily and the shawdows are so deep at the edges etc. The canon 50mm f1.4 helps with that alot.

7 months ago |I have one clear question that needs a crystal clear answer please:
Did the orders from Sony’s website (Sony.com, Sony.fr, etc.) start shipping or not? I explain my situation:
I ordered the A77VQ from Sony.fr at the price of 1600€ instead of 1900€ (they made a mistake on the prices for two days and I took advantage since the terms and conditions oblige them to respect this price). I called the costumer service last friday and they told me that they have no idea when they’re going to ship them but since I was among the people that ordered first there won’t be too much delay…
However, I’m afraid they won’t respect and honor the orders and that Sony will keep delaying the orders (so they won’t lose the 300€ difference) pretexting that the situation in Thailand and the factory story are to blame…
The A77VQ is available here in Paris in one shop that I know (at the price of 1900€ of course) so I don’t know what to do… Wait for Sony to send me my preordered one or go and buy it right away???
So please!!! Did any one order from Sony and receive their A77VQ???
