RX1 Zeiss bokeh vs Nikon.

Bokeh isn’t certainly the main reason why you should buy the Sony RX1. But Photographer Neil van Niekerk (Click here) wanted to investigate the quality of the Zeiss 35mm f/2.0 bokeh against the Nikon 35mmm f/1.4G lens: “The Nikon version has that typical “double edge” to the hard lines of the chandelier’s support. Hence, the Sony looks smoother.” Not bad if you keep in mind that the Nikon lens alone is priced at $1600 (at Amazon). P.S.: Of course the Nikon is faster…don’t kill me Nikon guys
Three more RX1 news: DxO optics now supports the RX1. Japanese test at DC.watch. And if you buy the RX1 in US keep in mind that you can find RX1 superkits for the same price of the RX1 body only on eBay US (via Slidoo).

RX1 at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay.
RX1 Gariz accessories:
1) They made a new half leather case in Black and Brown (Click here to see them on eBay).
2) The new lens cap (Click here to see them on eBay).
3) The new entry is the anti loose button(!) (Click here to see them on eBay). Don’t know if that will be really useful for you RX1 owners. Someone has it and call it how it works? Thanks!
4) And this is the really first time I see that. A special Leather skin hood! (Click here to see them on eBay).

4 months ago |The real problem is that the 1.4 35 is one of the weaker Nikon primes. The 24 1.4 is better than almost anything – including Leica. The 35 doesn’t even have Nikon’s best coatings. Very inexpensive and pretty average.

4 months ago |I like the sony rx1 shots better but not because of the bokeh. I think it shows that the rx1 is not that expensive for what it is. If the body was 1,500 and the lens was 1,500 it would still be about about what is sould cost.

4 months ago |For portraits – I would prefer to see comparison vs:
- M9 with Leica 35mm f/1.4 or
- M9 with CV 35 f/1.2 II
both at f/1.4 (or 1.2) – not f/2.
Then we would see – what we loose when use RX1.
Of course we get small size and weight – no doubts.

4 months ago |What about a comparison with the A900 or A99 with the Minolta 35mm f/2. A stellar lens in its own right, and a better performer than the Minolta and SONY 35mm f/1.4 G…. that would show us if things have advanced within the product line instead of some what randomly comparing to outside competitors.

4 months ago |Why not compare against 35mm f/2? Canon and Nikon versions too inexpensive to make the proper case? As mentioned, A99 w/ Minolta 35 2 would be more informative as well. I’m not meaning to shoot the messenger as Andrea didn’t do the test, but this would be more helpful.

4 months ago |Admin, You forgot that people can not spend as much money on Gariz’ fine accessories if they use nikon! This alone should be good reason to Buy the fantastic Rx-1!

4 months ago |I don’t understand why no lens maker is producing a lens with an apodization element like the 135 STF. If bokeh is the only goal, then that is actually much easier than building faster lenses.
You can even DIY: http://www.4photos.de/camera-diy/Apodization-Filter.html

4 months ago |Sorry, but I think this guy was looking for reasons to praise the Zeiss. I’m a fan of Zeiss, but looking at these images, many of the Nikon ones have a smoother bokeh overall. That didn’t stop him from picking out one part of the image where the Zeiss was better. I agree with the double edge in some of the Nikon images, but they were just one small part of the image. When we look at an image, we don’t scrutinize and scan every part of the bokeh looking for faults. We just look at the overall image’s bokeh.

4 months ago |I guess that if you can afford $2800 for the RX-1 that you can afford $32-40 for the so called “Anti-Loose Soft Button.” If you are totally broke after your purchase you can go to Adorama and buy the Adorama Soft Touch Shutter Release Adapter for $2.49.

4 months ago |Zeiss has smoothen bokeh but Nikon has that extra shallow DOF due to its faster aperture.
This is the kind of dilemma that makes you buy a Leica
