RX100 price drops in Europe (and some deals in USA too).
-
Many times I get the question if there will be a replacement or a second RX100 model. I really have no info yet but SAR readers noticed a price drop in European stores like the 100 Euro off at Amazon Germany (Click here) and Pixmania France (Click here). In US prices are the same a part of $50 off deal on eBay US (Click here). To see more RX100 sub $600 offers and to get notified when there will be new auctions just save this Slidoo eBay search.
It’s just my guess but I don’t think there will be a R200 or whatever yet. I epxect a RX10 first

. Do tell…

5 months ago |Dear Admin, please share some tid bits on the RX10. Can not imagine Sony would not occupy the large gap between RX1 and RX100.
John
5 months ago |Also, can we realistically expect a much higher IQ (in practice) since the RX100 already provides very good results.
Stan
5 months ago |If they use APSC sensor, think of it as image quality on the level of NEX-5N, which in itself means a gain of about 1.5 stops in low light performance.
Moow
5 months ago |a good in between RX1 and RX100. Would be a NeX with kit lens (for now).
APSC 1.5 crop sensor.
Since RX1 is full frame and RX100 is 1″ Sensor right? lol..
Moow
5 months ago |Or not the kit lens in particular..you can replace that with your preferred E mount. or lenses that you think would make the package look “small” enough. haha..

5 months ago |RX10 predictions:
- Compact Fixed Lens Nex with APSC sensor
- Still very pocketable, much like RX100 but higher IQ
- Same sensor as Nex6
- Contrast + Phase Detect
- 18-55 Retractable Lens. F2.8-?
- Out within 6 months
- No EVF
- Rx100′s big brother

5 months ago |Please don’t go with a zoom! Zoom make me angry!!! GRR!
joe
5 months ago |Also: Rx10 may be the world’s smallest pocketable APSC body to date.

5 months ago |If they manage to mount a good Zeiss Zoom on a pocketable Body. Something like 16-50 f 2,8 – 4 It would be interesting…
Spoon
5 months ago |Look at the Sony R1. Sensor a hair smaller (1.7x crop), lens F2.8-F4.8.
Huge.
Even if they manage to make the lens 1/2 the size (remember that a large part of the R1 lens sits inside the body too), it’s still not going to be pocketable.

5 months ago |it IS a good zeiss zoom in a pocketable body.

5 months ago |Yes but No aps-c Sensor…
Jason
5 months ago |The lens you describe wouldn’t retract the same way as what the lens on the RX100, almost flush. For an ASP-C, the lens would be much bigger, but funny enough not much bigger than the 16-50 power-zoom for the NEX bodies.

5 months ago |Really wish the next one would have tilt + touch screen.

5 months ago |No EVF?! Then another “no, thanks” from me. As it happened with RX1..
Jason
5 months ago |The RX1 accepts the Sony EVF and can be used just as works on the NEX bodies. If that was what held you back on it, that’s rather easy solution.
Dan
5 months ago |the best mobile device ever will be a cameraphone that will linked on the back rx100 with a fixed lens (for a slim profile) and a 5” display on the front for the normal phone interface and camera controls too.

5 months ago |Samsung Galaxy Phone?hahahaha…
Back to topic, price reduction is good. I personally think the MSRP is a little bit high.
Dan
5 months ago |the price for RX100 drops on every euro Amazons by 100 euro, the best price now is on amazon.it 523.70 euro
Dan
5 months ago |not Samsung Galaxy Phone or Camera
1 Samsung Galaxy Phone is just a phone, i think you were thinking of Samsung Galaxy Camera but that device isnt a phone
2 Samsung Galaxy Camera is worse than Nokia 808 at IQ and RX100 is better than Nokia 808 so it will be for sure another story.
But Sony is busy to launch nex 3n so…:)

5 months ago |You’re right, I was thinking about Samsung Galaxy Camera. The advantage of such design is the screen can be larger than ordinary cam. Handling could be a problem though.
Dan
5 months ago |handling will not be so hard, the size will be around the size of RX100, because i asume that with a fixed lens the whole device will keep the size down. but it will be soo much better to shoot with 5” display than the 3” . and you will have the ultimate in pocketable IQ and you can also call your mom with it

5 months ago |An RX10 would be a camera I could love. The RX100 has sensor too small (and the RX1 has price tag too large). Make it a fast prime! 30mm f/1.4 or f/2.0 would be super-cool.
Linh
5 months ago |Sony should just name all their products by year. 2013 is the year of Z! Xperia Z phone and tablet. Now we need Sony Alpha RZ1!
Dave Lively
5 months ago |I would not expect major changes when he RX100 is eventually replaced. I really like mine for what it is, a camera with the largest possible sensor and a zoom lens that I can still carry comfortably in my pocket. Most of the changes I see people request (faster lens, APS-C sensor, tilt display, etc.) would make too large for pocket carry.
I have a NEX-5N for when I want something more capable than the RX100. It is still fairly light and compact and has all the features people are suggesting. The only way a RX10 would make sense is if it has a slim, but fast and high quality prime lens like the Fuji X100. Anything else would be like a NEX with a fixed lens.
Jason
5 months ago |The NEX 5 N/R with the 16-50 power-zoom makes a very small/light combo and even though the 16-50 lens is somewhat of a tradeoff versus a high quality prime, it is more than capable.
