3 months ago |If it is excellent optically with low distortion, it might be worth it. Samyang lenses tend to have enormous amount of distortion.

Fants
3 months ago |How so? The 85mm has none, the 35mm has just a touch, and the 24mm does have a moderate amount (though not abnormal for a WA). Only the 14 really has a distortion problem, and it’s still a fantastic lens for such a crazily low price.
Rolleiflex
3 months ago |Compared to lenses in the same focal and aperture, Samyang’s distortion is always on the higher side. That is part of the reason why they have decent IQ at good price. The other is the shoddy quality control and construction. Nonetheless, for focal that I don’t use often, I would choose Samyang; that is the 14 at the moment.

3 months ago |Why bother with Tilt/Shift lenses nowadays when the same can be accomplished using Photoshop–YES, THE SAME, and if you happen to be using, say, a Zeiss 24mm EMount on your NEX…, guaranteed to have better resolution…, oh yeah, and you only have to pay the $ thou once…, oh yeah, and it’s smaller and lighter too.

3 months ago |Well, try to use PS to process:
- a pic of a mirror w/o seeing the camera in the frame. Typical for interior architecture shots.
- a pic of a building w/o those annoying electricity wires or traffic signs in front or perhaps that ugly shack reflected on the glass walls of the building you’re being paid to photo.

3 months ago |The TS method will always be superior to focus stacking for quality. Glass > Software
Fants
3 months ago |Are we talking about “miniature effect” here? Not only is that hardly the best use of a TS lens, but it’s always easy to spot when it’s been done through software.
Also, don’t ignore the Shift part of Tilt-Shift…that’s an effect that’s impossible to reproduce in Photoshop without drastically reducing IQ.
Rolleiflex
3 months ago |Definitely “amateur” use if you only exploit the thin DOF effect (that’s one of the worse applications for a T/S lens). With Tilt, you can get extremely deep DOF without resorting to severe-diffraction-induced f/11 or f/16. With Shift, you can get straight vertical line. You can use to do a quick 3-pic pano thing but to me it’s pointless due to parallax. Finally, since the lens is designed to cover a much bigger sensor area, the performance without tilt and shift should be very high. The Canon 24 mark II has better color correction than the “king of wide” Zeiss 21 while having similar resolution.

3 months ago |Ermmm… Not the same. This lens means that you don’t have to use photoshop at all… thus not the same at all.
BTW… you can also control distortion, sharpness, color balance in photoshop. That doesn’t mean we don’t want lenses with good distortion, good sharpness, and set color balance in camera. You can also res photos up in PS. But we still want more camera MP in spite of PS ability.

3 months ago |In PS you’re stretching and bending pixels.
In a TS you’re stretching and bending LIGHT.
Your comment makes me question whether you’ve ever used a TS lens. These things are definitely not the same, especially not in terms of IQ. You lose a chunk of your captured image when correcting perspective through PS. Looking for perspective control on the cheap? I suggest trying a Kippon shift adapter with a Nikon lens.

3 months ago |Is this price considered cheap? T&S is quite expensive huh.
Rolleiflex
3 months ago |Just like the 24/1.4, Samyang is pricing it way too high at the beginning. It will drop in time. However, if they charge 1k and do deliver on both the IQ and mechanical construction, it might be worthwhile.

3 months ago |Wish this lens focused in the proper direction for Alpha, Leica, Canon, Contax, Olympus direction, instead of the Pentax/Nikon direction. I hate when one lens operates opposite from all the others in my bag. Guess I’ll stick with the Mirex/Mamiya solution.
When is someone going to smarten up and make just the T/S mechanism with interchangeable fronts for different focal lengths?
Randy S.
3 months ago |You can’t do that. The image circle won’t be big enough to cover the sensor when you tilt or shift the lens. (in most cases)
CTPhotographX.com
3 months ago |Works fine with my Mirex TS adapter for Alpha with every Mamiya 645 lens. That’s basically what 35mm TS lenses are… Is 645 lenses on TS mechanism. But the Mirex adapter isnt quite as easy to use as the typical dedicated TS lenses. But design it that way from the beginning and have the best of both worlds.

3 months ago |proper direction? Do you hate that you were born with a left hand too, cause its more proper to have 2 right hands? LOL

3 months ago |The Canon & Nikon counterparts are 2000-2200$ but I would see the Samyang around 700-800$. Maybe they should have made a F/4 lens to save on size & costs.

3 months ago |The 1k price is surprising! It would have been nice if it was $500, that would have been real competitive’ but will price to go down for the sony. I have the canon tse 24mm Ii s I do instant the complexity of the lena build as well.
