3 months ago |Wow Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG at $900 looks like a great Value
compared to Sony’s $1500 similar offering.
Glad to see Sigma has not fully abandoned the Sony platform
If SONY would just keep overpricing all their lens
like the 50mm, it will attract 3rd parties to
Intro Sony A Mount offerings

3 months ago |Look at DXOmark for Sigma 35mm and compare it to the Sony lens, now look at their prices. WIN-WIN with the Sigma.
You cant blame Sony, their market isnt big enough so they have to overprice their items to cover costs and have a descent profit margin. If Sony had more customers, prices would go down.
Tanglefoot
3 months ago |Catch 22. They would perhaps have more customers if their prices weren’t so high…..
animalsbybarry
3 months ago |They might have more customers if they listened to them snd gave them what they want.
Carl
3 months ago |Either that or they overprice it because its still made in a Konica Minolta factory.
Aside from (D) encoding and AF-D there’s little reason not to just buy an old Minolta version for much less.
Klipsen
3 months ago |The Sony 50 mm f/1.4 sells for around USD 450, Canon’s for around USD 400. That’s not a whole lot. B&H sell Nikon’s manual focus version for USD 469 … I wonder if that one is made in a Minolta factory.

3 months ago |Plus it seems that Tamron and Sigma has stepped up the QC and I also think they offer a better warranty. I am actually selling my beloved sony 24-70 now because I am pretty sure when I go full frame again it will be a nex. I can get so many things I need now for the price it will sell for. The 24-70 is just too big and heavy for my nex-6. I will miss it

3 months ago |The Sony 35mm f1.4 is WAY over-priced, it’s performance/cost ratio is very poor. It should be around the same cost as the Sony 50mm f1.4 and then it’ll be worth the price.
If you have a APS-C get the Sony 35mm f1.8 and save yourself a fortune. You’ll get similar performance for peanuts money.

3 months ago |Expensive 1st party lenses. Wonder why more mfgs don’t jump on the chance to make money by offering cheap alternatives?

3 months ago |This might be a nice lens a 54 megapixel full frame camera if sony ever decides to make one.

3 months ago |OMFG!!! You are such a pain in the bum. Quit dropping that dumb 54 MP wish on the world. 54 MP is not needed. 54 MP is not wanted. 54 MP is not realistic. 54 MP is a waste of money. Sony will never deliver 54 MP today, tomorrow, or in the next few years. You are a fool and no one listens to you, except me, maybe, because I’m just tired of reading your 54 posts. Go away. Just… go… away… FOOOLLLL!!!!!!

3 months ago |Wow, people still buy these? Wasn’t this fad over when you could do the exact same thing on an iPhone app?
Klipsen
3 months ago |Ever heard of a guy named Scheimpflug and the principle named after him? You can not do anything like the same thing in software. Whether you like it or not, tilt lenses and polarising filters are not going to be made obsolete by electronics or software.
SonyCyberPunk
3 months ago |Actually, you can do the same thing in software and just as quickly when comparing field captures with focus stacking,
Klipsen
3 months ago |You must have some wonderful software, since it can cobine in- and out-of-focus parts to emulate shallow depth of field in a plane not perpendicular to the lens’ axis.

3 months ago |Anyone seen reviews on the T/S?
JoeNoName
3 months ago |Im waiting on reviews from DXO on this lens or the basic 24 f/1.4 for Canon or Nikon as its the same with different mount, shamefully there isnt, but Samyang delivers good lenses, just need the proof from DXO to make my purchase
Frank
3 months ago |You’d have to be really into TS to spend that much compared to software.
Marlon
3 months ago |Software can’t do everything a lens can. Sometimes if you try to correct verticals in software for example, you end up with an image with parts missing because you did not shoot wide-enough. The same happens when correcting for optical distortion.
If you focus on landscape or architecture this is a great deal.
Wheelus
3 months ago |True. There are still a lot of bad photographers who think Photoshop will save their sloppy photography.
Frank
3 months ago |The simple point I made is that you REALLY have to be into TS to spend that much when software can do it. So stop frothing at the mouth about Photoshop users.
Ian
3 months ago |Exactly,
some people seem to think because they don’t need it no one else does either.
Rooru S.
3 months ago |You can use software to a certain extend. I have simulated T/S effect with some buildings and they look pretty much similar what you can get with a proper lens, but sometimes I end up wishing being a little far or having a wider lens because of the missing parts.
Klipsen
3 months ago |Software will not tilt the focus plane. Ever.
SonyCyberPunk
3 months ago |Wrong, it can if you know how to shift the plane in your software. It’s actually quite easy. FOOL^

3 months ago |Better confirm T/S mechanism doesn’t get blocked for a900 overhanging prism. This limits upper shift on my Mirex/Mamiya system. One unquestionable advantage to a99, having no overhang to limit movements. And with peaking, should make usability all the sweeter.
For web and small print, sure, software will suffice for tilt defocus. But for large print, even magazine publication, software is unsuitable, as it changes global noise values. And something should be said for enabling tog vision at time of capture, in the moment, or from production goals. Not all photography should be reduced to mere sampling, for manipulation later. There is value in expressive intent at the time of capture.
SonyCyberPunk
3 months ago |Wrong again… or should I say, as usual. I can knock out everything you knock out photographically +1. You suck.

3 months ago |Oh… this poor Samy looks to focus in opposite direction from standard A-Mount. Too bad. But good for you PeNikon lubbers.
Sky_walker
3 months ago |well, I got Tammy that focuses in opposite direction too – frustrating, but in the end: It’s not like you need to quickly catch focus on something with T&S lens
So I’d say: It’s bearable.
).
What I like about this lens though is it’s relatively small size. As long as the build quality won’t be crap (and it seems quite OK last time I seen it on Focus on Imaging) it might be one of most interesting lenses for A-mount in terms of possibilities-performance-price factor (yes: I just made it up
Ian
3 months ago |This lens should be very handy for architecture. It will be interesting to see the MTF data of the final production version and compare it to Canon TS-E 24mm. Those who think photoshop can do it don’t have to buy it. On the other hand I estimate that at least 1/4 of serious landscape photographers I know currently have a tilt shift lens and they are mostly amatuers. I think this lens will be an absolute hit if the IQ is good. I’ll buy the Canon version and mount it with my Metabones
