SAR admin message: IE8 update creates problems on website.
Since yesterday I am getting messages from readers saying that there is an error on SAR. My technician told to me that IE8 got an update yesterday and it doesn’t read some javascript well. That’s why those of you browsing with IE8 are having problems displaying the website. I am trying to fix the issue but I strongly recommend you to upgrade to IE9 or use any other browser like Safari, Chrome or Firefox. What is important is that you understand that it is not our fault, it is Microsoft that made a mess
Thanks for your understanding!

9 months ago |Why would anyone still use IE?
Lofote
9 months ago |That is definitely not the question here. Fact is, Andrea wants to have many interested users and there *ARE* lots of IE users. And IE is also better in may aspects, that stresskiller or other people simply overlook (e.g. mass rollout, central administration, etc.). Your opinion, which product suck does not metter, and everybody should have the freedom of choice here so your opinion does not count (nor does mine). It should simply work on ALL current web browsers that are actively used on the market.

9 months ago |You’re missing the point here. When your web code is correct and supposed to work fine but some browsers refuse to work properly, whose fault here, the website or the browser? Creating a website that works on ALL actively used browsers is a lot complicated than it sounds, thanks to all the non-standard craps from IE. IE9 is actually very decent, but anything before that, well I would just say you shouldn’t use them.
stresskiller
9 months ago |wel john cause they only know how to use software already installed on a computer,
and have no clue how to install a better / different browser.
or they never heard of firefox , chrome , safari, oprah etc etc

9 months ago |Chrome or Firefox is an answer. IE sucks
Admin, please don’t worry about IE, just install ‘Get Firefox Plugin’

9 months ago |IE9 does not suck. Firefox and Google still do not render some pages.

9 months ago |Actually, IE9 runs most things the smoothest for me and is pretty nice. But without my plugins I would be ruined.
Sky_walker
9 months ago |Yep. IE9 is actually a very good browser. I dare to say that in many respects it’s better than Firefox – say: tabs and very nice RSS+webslices support as my favorites.
Yet still I use Firefox because of Firebug – if not this plugin than I’d be long gone to Chrome or IE9. Sadly no other browser has such an intuitive and well-performing developer toolset, even despite of both: IE and Chrome having a tools capable of doing their work.
I wish Firebug team would port it fully to IE or Chrome… *keep on dreaming*
Firefox nowadays is aged browser spammed by shitton of useless features and pointless stuff that moved FF team focus away from making an Internet browser. They already lost the way somewhere around 3.5 release (which version we have now? 6.0.2?). But sadly for me: there isn’t anything better. ~_~
ps. I wonder when someone will comment this in style of typical “microsoft hate” taken out from god-knows-where as it can be seen in some of comments below.

9 months ago |IE is the worst nightmare when it comes to web standards. Web designers always have to make the main website for actual browsers, and then spend hours trying to make IE to display it correctly ¬¬
Lofote
9 months ago |No actually Netscape was the worst nightmare for webmasters till only a few years ago. Believe me, what Netscape 4 made with webpages is EXTREMELY worse than what IE ever did. And IE9 follows web standards very good
…
Sky_walker
9 months ago |IE is only an issue when it comes to version 6, in some cases: 7.
Besides that it’s mostly issue with lack of developing skills from so-called “web developers”.
I earn money through making webpages for few years already so believe me: IE isn’t really an issue anymore. I tend to have more troubles with Opera than IE actually.

9 months ago |I follow this site on an ipad2 with Safari but when I enter the url I always end up seeing the 31 August entry… Tried to erase cookies etc but nothing helps… Any ideas? Thanks!
Sky_walker
9 months ago |Click Refresh button. For some reason it happens to me as well on iPad 1, but refreshing fixes the problem.

9 months ago |Lol don’t you worry, IE creates problems in every single website out there

9 months ago |Still using IE7 and yes this page was giving a lot of problems with scripting etc. A real PITA so to speak. Now I switch to FF and so far no problems. Some images don’t show up but that’s just the avatars, nothing important.
Unfortunately when IE gives problems it also affects the whole system, since IE is a core system component, a real pain. That’s why I like browsing the web on a Mac because there’s no IE hassle. Safari, FF, and Chrome are all good.

9 months ago |Try Chrome. That works best for me. Super fast and works.

9 months ago |You people can diss IE all you want. Fact is, I can’t install IE9 in my work computer because they only support IE8 T_T They don’t support IE9 -_- (Shared DLLs and stuff – so it affects the software I work on)
I’m still on FF though – best browser ever.
Google Chrome had some issues with me when they first started. I never returned, yet I think I should.

9 months ago |Guess your work computers are still WinXP. Only Vista and 7 can have IE9 installed.
Those who started their web browsing lives with Netscape should have no problem with FF, myself included.
Sky_walker
9 months ago |General note: Switch from XP to 7. There’s huge quality difference between them + W7 performs better on weak PCs if you set it up well. No issues with drivers, much better UI, better compatibility, better performance, there’s really no reason to stay with Win XP.

9 months ago |Hello Andrea,
I’m forced to use IE7 on my workplace. I’m always can’t see the pictures (I often have to look to your “friends” of Photo Rumors because this page works better).
The second point is that the page takes a lot of time for loading, freezing the browser for many seconds.
At home with firefox I have no problems.
lock
9 months ago |Same here. Company policy is against ugrading to anything else, so I’m stuck with IE8 there. The script locks up the machine entirely, and stopping the script is no help either.
