Sigma patents a 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens (very likely for E-mount)

The Japanese website Egami.blog found a new Sigma patent that discloses a 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras. As you know Sigma announced that they will soon release lenses for E-mount cameras. That’s why we can assume that lens will be made for our NEX cameras. Anyway we already have a Sony 18-55mm lens for NEX. I really do hope they will release some fast prime lens too!
Check out the Sony 18-55mm price at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.

2 years ago |What’s the point of this? It’s identical to the Sony kit lens. Here’s a thought though. Maybe Sigma are going to start making E-mount cameras as well as lenses. Maybe this is the Sigma kit lens? Otherwise it’s hard to imagine why anyone would buy this.

2 years ago |I had the same thought as olli, what is the point? I thought that the area where Sigma and Tamron could focus would be a small version of their 18-250/18-270 zooms with vibration control and contrast focus ability but smaller than Sony’s 18-200 and definitely a lot cheaper. Say £400 instead of £800. Given particularly the new Tamron 18-270 I would buy one immediately.

2 years ago |well,
maybe its cheaper in price and higher in quality? That would make sense, because Sonys Kitlenses havnt got the best reputation at all.
But it would make lot of more sense if they release some ass kicking primes

Most of the people already have the 18-55 as kit lens!
I wonder what the Sigma CEO has in his mind..

I would read this as a possible clue that other mirror-less APS-C systems are close to market. Their business model works best where they can support several mounts with the same basic lens design.

2 years ago |i thought more nex owner would hope for their 17/18-50 F2.8, and some 24mm, 35mm prime.
i wouldn’t mind some reach similar to Canon 24-105 or Nikon 24-120 F4 with smaller size : )

2 years ago |So, after all – nothing came from the call to rumor suppliers about the new lenses – how about some more meaningful lens like 18-70 or even 85/1.8 … ??
