Small good news: New Sonystore message says the NEX-7 will ship on November 11 (in USA only).
A couple of SAR readers (Thanks!) sent me a new message sent by Sonystore USA to the customers who preordered the NEX-7. It basically confirms what we heard from other sources. The NEX-7 will be shipped in very small quantities to early pre orders and than a long time will pass until it will back in Stock (March?).
Here is the official message:
“Dear XXX,
Thank you for your recent Sony purchase.
We would like to inform you we are experiencing a delay with your Sony order. The following item NEX7/B has been rescheduled to ship on 11/11/2011.
Tracking information will be sent via email once your order ships. This number will also be available within the order history in your Sony Account. If you are unable to continue waiting we encourage you to visit our website or call 1-866-337-7669 to work with a Sony sales representative to find an alternative product that will meet your needs.
We appreciate your understanding and thank you for choosing Sony!
Sincerely,
Sony Customer Care
SonyStyle.com”
I bet those of you that will be lucky to get the NEX-7 can resell the camera on eBay for double the price
There are still some stores accepting pre order like Adorama or Amazon Deutschland but I doubt they will ship those within the next 2-3 months.
P.S.: There are still some A77 body only cameras in Stock at Amazon US (Click here to get it!).

7 months ago |I got another message just now saying that it got delayed again. Here’s the message…
Hello ANDREW MIN,
Thank you for your recent Sony purchase.
We would like to inform you we are experiencing a delay with your Sony order.
Due to the flood in Thailand and the direct damage to Sony’s manufacturing facilities resulting from the flood, Sony is not able to meet the original delivery schedule that we shared with you when you ordered the NEX-7 camera. It is our highest priority to launch the NEX-7 as soon as possible and we would like to update you bi-weekly beginning Monday, November 21st until we can confirm the new intended shipping date. As a reminder, pursuant to your pre-order terms, your charge will not place until the order is shipped.
We apologize for this unforeseeable situation and thank you for your continued support. You are going to love your NEX-7 camera!

7 months ago |I’m too excited to get it, but kind of bummed that there isn’t any glass that really sings with it yet. I’ll learn it on the kit lens then upgrade as/when some good glass arrives. This’ll be my first ever Sony after 15 years of all Canon.

7 months ago |I truly do not get WHY Sony would not preface this with “due to the unfortunate flooding the Thai people are experiencing…” At least the unaware wouldn’t feel slighted, and it gives them a valid reason for the delay. They should donate a couple of bucks to help with flood relief in the purchaser’s name while they’re at it. Goodwill goes a long way.

7 months ago |I wrote to Amazon and look forward to some (comforting) official words on the NEX-7 pre-order soon. They have been silent for a while since changing their page to an indefinite shipping date/sign up for E-mail notification.
The situation doesn’t look so good as of now, for us who pre-ordered our NEX-7s from Amazon, of ever getting our hands on the NEX-7 this year. Let’s all hope for the best…

7 months ago |I actually got my A77 yesterday, and while I think it’s a beautiful camera I was disappointed to see a black dot on the EVF that I suspect is a cluster of dead pixels.
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/lwJKpIbsn-kX3IVfAPzUxo0CgwTjknc5QthfdzaZBIY?feat=directlink
It’s not a show stopper, but not acceptable for having paid $2000. It’s actually a little bigger than the picture was able to capture thanks to so-so quality of my cell phone camera.
It’s going back for a replacement, but luckily the place i ordered from has some more in stock
I wonder if their quality control has gotten worse because of the move to Thailand, or if they were in a hurry to get these manufactured and out…
Andy
7 months ago |I got my A77 yesterday too, no dead pixel or anything like that, but really dont like since it is made in Thailand, i dont trust the quality control, also the A77 feel somehow lighter, plastic not rugged, i think it’s going to break easily IMO.

7 months ago |I moved to this from the A300, and to be honest it feels rather similar in “feel” although a little bit heavier. Other Sony cameras after the A200,A300,A350 series felt quite a bit more cheap to me. I think they reduced the quality of the camera bodies to make them cheaper to produce.
It’s kind of a shame, it would be nice if the cheaper bodies still retained a decent build quality. It would certainly raise them above other manufacturers. To me the quality of the A300 still exceeds that of the Canon T2i. My brother just purchased a 60D, so I’ll have to compare the three (A300, A77, 60D).

7 months ago |Expect some adjustment time. An SLR without a Mirror Box or Glass Prism will have a completely different “balance” than what one has grown used to. It’s just going to feel different altogether.
Perhaps it’s a lack of quality, as you say. But I have much faith in Sony quality. Their products have been consistently top shelf and very reliable over time.

7 months ago |Well, the NEX-7 sure seems like a fine camera. Meanwhile, I’ve been enjoying my NEX-5N with add-on viewfinder, microphone, and other goodies.
Makes me wonder about all the virtual frothing at the mouth over new photo tech stuff. Do we buy this stuff to take pictures, or to be the envy of our personal tech communities, with bragging rights. Honestly, I have taken some pretty good stuff with Sony, Canon, Nikon SLRs, P&S, and film.
I can understand being anxious to get a new toy (excuse me, … camera) if I was a pro who needed to get it right into use to make $$$’s, or if it did something that no other camera could do, but REALLY, you’d have to be a fool to buy a NEX-7 on Ebay at $2,800, or just have a lot of money to P**s away….

7 months ago |Extra cash for the nex-7 to get it early ?? No way…
It seems to be a very good camera but nothing (other than controls and a few more mpix) better than the nex-5n with finder !
Also the shift color problems with wide-angle lenses make me wonder…
I think I’d prefer waiting for the Fuji one to come or get the nex-5n !
Clyde
7 months ago |The color shift doesn’t happen with every wide angle lens.
The E-Mount 16mm and the PEN FT lenses are fine. Only extreme rangefinder wide angles have issues.
Zstan
7 months ago |The 24mm Zeiss doesnt have this issue as well.

7 months ago |I got my a77 yesterday – very disappointed:
First of all the lens mount has a good bit of play and because the zoom is so stiff you can great it knocking. I would like to know if anyone else has this problem with
the 16-50 kit.
Also I found the camera constantly under exposes in low light – had to over expose by one stop to compensate.
I also think the build quality for a camera being described as rugged is substandard – there is allot of plastic there. I tried to pop up the flash and found that the button wasn’t raised enough, so had to use the very tip of my finger.
There also seems like there is some basic menu options missing from a semi pro camera, for example – the ability to set the shutter release to focus without locking the exposure.
There is also allot of noise at modest iso settings – dxo has it on a par with 7d – I don’t think so.
I do like the colours though and the autofocus in video mode is very good, webern though you bed a ssm lens and the choice is limited.
I agree that the quality control send to be very poor- this one is going back to jessops tomorrow. t .

7 months ago |Here is an excerpt of the E-mail response I got from Amazon on the shipping date for the pre-ordered NEX-7, in case any of you are interested:
“Hello,
Unfortunately, we don’t have stock of “Sony NEX-7 24.3 MP Compact Interchangeable Lens Camera with 18-55mm Lens” right now, and we’re not sure when we’ll be able to get more. We’ll e-mail you as soon as we have more information from our suppliers.
I will be sure to pass your message to the appropriate department in our company for consideration so that they can make arrangements to avail this item and I know they’ll want to read about your experience, so that this will not happen again in your future orders…”
No official words yet from Amazon’s suppliers, I guess. Thank you Amazon for the timely and polite response. Let’s continue to hold our breath in the meantime *turning blue*

7 months ago |It appears that I should have pre-ordered through Sony US. I ordered the Nex-7 w/ lens on the day it was released…..on Amazon. This is what I get for trying to avoid paying sales tax.
Oh well, life goes on. Hope people of Thailand get back on their feet soon.

7 months ago |feel the same. spoke with amazon, and they are not expecting them any time soon. well, according to the guy on the phone… Although someone on DPR said that they spoke with amazon, and was told they will be receiving them shortly.
I can wait if it saves me some sales tax.

7 months ago |My dealer ordered on the first available day. He told me today that Nov 7th would not happen for NEX-7.
Then he told me that he got to play with one yesterday from the Sony rep. Arhhhggg!!! To think that there is actually ONE in town… but I can’t buy it!
My dealer has no idea when it is coming in.

7 months ago |I ‘pre-ordered’ my NEX-7 from Amazon USA a few weeks ago, and have been pressing them for some sort of response on delivery. Here’s what they stated yesterday:
“Unfortunately, we don’t have any more stock of Sony NEX-7 24.3 MP Compact Interchangeable Lens Camera with 18-55mm Lens right now, and we’re not sure when we’ll be able to get more. The estimated delivery date of this order is December 1″.
I’m assuming this means Sony may be shipping some stock to Amazon after all. I’m not holding my breath, but at the very least it’s possible some of us may not have to wait until March!

7 months ago |Good news!. After beiing “sold out” for a few days, you can again preorder NEX-7 on Sony Canada. This batch is expected to be delivered Jan 17 2012. Previous preorders are unchanged with delivery expected in a few batches starting November 21.

7 months ago |I had my first opportunity to handle the new Alpha 77 yesterday and for my 50+year old eyes I was not impressed with the EVF. Younger eyes may be able to deal with it, but older eyes will want better resolution and a ledger size. So this has cooled my interest in the NEX-7.
